How special and rare it is for a small school conference to make the finals.

In the last 40 years, I can only compare this to Indiana State and Jacksonville.

Both of those teams had a true superstar in Bird and Gillmore. Is Hayward really that much better than the others around him, history suggest the answer to be yes.

It looks like Coach K will get another title if history repeats itself.

He will then tie North Carolina with 4 during his 30years in the ACC.

Final Game Thoughts

The Butler campus and enrollment is smaller than Allen High and also the 3 Plano schools. And, their facilities pale in comparison. It's really the beauty of college basketball. These tiny schools can find a couple of really good players through certain lucky circumstances, get a rising coach, and compete. I truly hope they win. But, I don't think they will. Both teams are playing really good ball, but Duke has more size and better players.

Opening Day

The world is right again. Tomorrow boxscores will appear again in the morning paper. I love the start of baseball season as much as ever. Yankees/Red Sox are playing in the background. Jon Miller is holding forth. All the aces take the mound tomorrow. Lincecum vs Oswalt, Beckett vs Sabathia, etc. It's all good.

Izzo Pt 2

Interesting that college basketball rewards reputations for making the F4. They've created a situation where 3 additonal teams & coaches walk away from the season feeling like they've won something. Think about it. Marv Levy is mostly known for being a 4-time loser in the super bowl. But Tom Izzo is now 1-5 in pursuing a championship, but instead of calling him a loser, he gets credit for going to 6 F4's. Bob Stoops has become a national symbol for losing big games, but if he was a basketball coach he would be getting his due for reaching the final round, rather than being ridiculed for not cashing in. Totally unfair.

96 Teams

One thing that truly makes me angry is powerful organizations doing something solely for the money, but trying to sell us on why it's a good thing for everyone. 96 teams in the NCAA is yet another example of the internal rot in American culture. Everyone chases more dollars, and we accept the inevitable and buy what they're selling. I can't wait for all the power conference 6-10 teams to "play their way in" and be able to claim they made the tournament. Nothing better than a little Texas Tech vs Va Tech 1st rounder eh! Riveting stuff. Morons.

My Week

I have spent the week fishing and golfing with no computer.

High winds at Lake Fork made the fishing rough, but I was again lucky enough to catch a few and had a lot of good friends with me.

The Final Four will be fun, I have no team of real interest so it will not create my usual stir, but I will be tuned in.

2. More interesting to me. Brooking said the the Eagles had become too predictable and they knew every play that was coming.
