DFW High School Coaching Update

It's been an interesting off-season for DFW high school football programs.  Clearly the top programs in DFW over the past decade have been:  Allen, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Skyline, Southlake, and Trinity.  All of these except Southlake had some coaching drama going on this winter.....

  • Allen - longtime offensive coordinator Jeff Fleener left to become a head coach in the San Antonio area
  • Cedar Hill - Texas/Charlie Strong offered Head Coach Joey McGuire a spot on their staff.  He mulled it for about 10 days and decided to stay, mostly because his son is the likely QB at Cedar Hill for the next 2 years
  • DeSoto - Head Coach Claude Mathis left for a spot on the new SMU staff under Chad Morris.  They have since promoted their offensive coordinator to replace Mathis.
  • Skyline - Head Coach Reginald Samples left to head up Duncanville.  He cited the much better resources he will enjoy at suburban Duncanville vs. what he had at DISD Skyline.
  • Trinity - Head Coach Steve Lineweaver retired after winning 3 state championships at Trinity, taking them to another final, and winning state once at 3A Commerce.  Trinity also replaced him with their offensive coordinator.
All of these could present the opportunity for other programs to get in the mix for supremacy in DFW.
