Hamilton Crusade

Josh Hamilton has really had a big year and I can't remember someone taking this much heat for these numbers

Rbi's- leads the AL
HR-2nd
BA-23rd
Runs-3rd
Ops-4th
Slug-4th

Team has the best record in baseball.

Those are MVP stats

Armstrong

Well, I think my feelings for Armstrong and his past are well documented.
I have to respect the things he accomplished and unlike many, I didn't care that he cheated as much as i hated the denials and fame worshipping that followed. They all cheated!

All of the warning signs were there for everyone to see with past blood test showing he what he had done and the constant stonewalling of the cycling authorities.  The stories out of Europe were many and quite interesting.

My real question has always been this:
How many riders had to cheat to keep up with his extraordinary ability to never quit.

Is he the best ever?   Maybe, but we will never really know.

Maybe my problem with the Tout is that the team coaches choose the winner in advance many times.
Any sport that doesn't pit the best against each other and promotes it as an individual sport bothers me.

It is a Ricky Bobby sport-   Can you hear it?

Armstrong Goes Down

Since I’ve posted on this subject a couple of times in the past I felt obligated to comment now that Lance Armstrong has taken the fall. It’s quite ironic that like his riding, he was too good at cheating to get caught, but it was the lesser riders who got busted and didn’t want to go down alone who ultimately brought him down as well. Try as they might, the authorities couldn’t get him while he dominated their sport, but his own teammates did him in. The sad part is that since they didn’t get him during his career, the only people who will suffer now, other than him, is the people he helps through the Livestrong Foundation.

I admit to getting caught up in the Armstrong fever after watching some clips of his early rides in the Tour. Now, we have long been sports fans, and we love to watch the special ones; Jordan, Jackson, Lewis, Sanders, Hamilton, etc. for their towering athletic talent. In Armstrong I was fascinated by another type of athletic prowess, that being the ability to endure pain and suffering on a level we can’t imagine. When I watched him drive his body over those mountains and break the will of the other riders, it was a whole other kind of appreciation for a god-given talent.

I have a friend at work who rides on a serious level. I asked him about how he and his fellow riders looked at Armstrong. He said everyone was and is in complete awe of him because of his ability to endure. He uses a term: “pain cave” that riders talk about when people enter a state of mind where the pain is so great but they embrace it and overcome it. Armstrong was the guy who lived there most comfortably and I won’t forget watching that happen on TV and knowing I was seeing something unique. Jeremy Schaap talked on the radio today about cyclists being the athletes who have to reach the deepest inside themselves to find something that only a sliver of people can ever comprehend. Because of that, despite everything, Armstrong will always inhabit a special place for me.

Predictions

It is time to jot down our Preseason Predictions.
How so i pick my Top 10.  Best teams or how the season will end?

My first thought go to College with media.
1. Bama- LSU is more talented, but we have the Saban Factor   He want two in a row.
2. Oregon -I like the Qb better and the RB is still special in that offense  No massive out of conference lines this year
3. LSU- Does it seem odd that we are expected to believe Miles will let the offense develop.
4. OKLA- I almost picked Stoops to beat Oregon in NC game   Easy schedule but they always have injuries.
5. USC- 2 losses because of injuries and ego issues.  They are loaded on offense in a league that needs a deep defense
6. Ga- Even Richt can win with this talent
7.  Texas- They have the talent and W Va will get beat up in the Big 12
8.  V Tech-  picking between Fla State, VTech and Clemson is difficult but I will go with legend
9.  Ohio State - weak schedule makes Urban's legend grow.  No Bowl kills their chances.
10.  Arkansas - the Qb will get them past everyone but the big boys.  I wanted to pick Spurrier, but I don't trust Lattimore and the knee.

Cowboys thru two preseason games

The secondary seems to be drastically improved with Carr and Church. If Claiborne is what i expect him to become they will be a contender in the postseason.

Carter is getting plenty of reps but seems to standing blockers up not shedding them, but it is obvious he and Connor are quicker than our old Tiger James.

The Oline is just not impressive and if Red Jesus doesn't shorten the routes similar to the Packers and Saints Romo will be in a body cast before week 5.  Romo looks sharp.  I thought it poignant that when questioned about his thoughts for a third wr he was adamant that being in the correct place at the right time was more important than physical attributes

I hate to type this, but like Jonathan has always said, TE are replaceable. Hanna looks really good and seems more in sync with the offense than Bennett ever did.

On the injuries that seem to occur annually, someone eventually needs to point a finger at the strength an conditioning people.

Cowboys and my IPad

I have had this iPad since my birthday in February and I finally looked on the app store and found the Cowboys News app with all the stories in one spot.  This is great!

Next up may be my first data free phone so I can listen to Gallaway and Company where ever I go.

It's a strange world we live in.

Honey Badger Herbs

The excitement will be a little depressed in Baton Rouge without Mathieu smoking his stash on I-10.

Those punt returns at Arkansas and Georgia saved the Tigers season and just gave everyone a reason to forget the offense.
I still remember the announcer saying..."Like smoke through key hole."  '

He will definitely be missed, a play maker on defense is so rare and he was the best I have ever seen.   (Sans Deion and Ed Reed .)

My only regret is that Ware wasn't sent packing with him.  This is already another chance for Miles to play the 3 yard back of his dreams. Jordan, Ware, Scott and the list continues.

The talent level in Baton Rouge should make for another special season even without the Honey Badger and with Miles love buddy Ware tripping over his lineman.

Can we really see another NC in Baton Rouge?

Cowboys Oakland Preseason

I tried to watch the game, but it only took the first quarter to make me cringe.

1.) Special Teams Genius- Coach DeCa-Fire Me.
3 penalties!  Roughing the Punter, Offsides and Blah Blah Blah it continues.

Red Jesus was giving the Special Teams coach the evil eye.
How is this guy still around.

2.) OLINE- Is so BAD.  Doug Free at Right tackle may break his 9 1/2 sacks from last year.
The center was 4th string guy.
The good side was that I actually saw an O Lineman with arm muscles.   (Or maybe that was an Oakland guy.)

3.) This is not related to pre-season.
The injuries in Dallas continue. 18 down the week of the game.
My complaint, when Mo Claiborne was said to be hurt the Cowboys brain trust immediately said they hoped he would be back in a week.

Why?  Anyone that can read will realize that the body cannot heal in a week from tissue damages.

8-8 looks good right now.

J.

Oh Well.

My path to Vegas went down in flames with my short game snafu Monday.
I failed to get up and down 7 times Monday.   My partner could only carry me so far with my 78.
We had fun and I still have a congrats letter ESPN for winning the sectionals to savior as a memory.
I really hate chipping on wet grass!!!

67-66

Rory can put on a show when he is rolling the ball well. That really was a dominant performance on Sunday.

What a joyful fellow he is, a complete opposite to the oppressive AC Woods.

He will never rival Woods as a career winner, his short game is just not up the task. But, on the opposite side of the equation, Woods nor Lefty could ever hit a ball like as well as this kid.

For the weird fact of the week.
Westwood led the field at the PGA in Greens in Regulation and missed the cut.

Baseball

I honestly do not know where to start with what I have watched this summer.

1.) Rangers-  I have not had any confidence in this team at any point.
I realize that that they have been one of the top 3 teams all year,  but I do not like this team, maybe its my disgust for Wash and his decisions under pressure.

Arms-The Trade: Well Mr. Dempster has his pitches are hanging too high in the middle of the plate.
YU- I like this guy, but he still needs to learn from his pitching coach.

Hitting- I know it has been a disappointing last few months Josh H., but SLAMITON is on fire in comparison to Napoli!
Can the Napster losing 100 points in Average have half his power be related to the something amiss with hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh.  I realize he went on DL less than a week ago, but that is a serious drop.

2.) The Nats are just a great story of a team that may catch lightning in a bottle.   The young power arms, maniacal Harper, a BA of .187 in the last month,  and now the drama with sitting Strasburg for his career health.
This staff appears to have the possibility of the Braves under Bobby Cox

I have spent too much time listening to the radio this week and find it humorous that most talk show athletes really believe that athletes are in major sports because of desire and that it somehow will make the body heal quicker.

I would ask the Doctor's opinion and sit him for the 4 to 6 weeks, which is the normal healing time for soft tissue damages or so I have read.  Then let the Post-Season begin with the guy in the rotation if no tissue damage is present.
Those other guys all have good enough stats that the cold weather of October could be a hitters nightmare.

3.)  Jeter has proven to be great and AROD really shows the effect of the juice and how it ruined his body.
Adam Dunn- A .208 BA  and he is a hero with 33 HR's.  Someone tell me why Dave Kingman couldn't find a team after his last year.
Trout- I would vote him MVP.

Tired Acts

I am very tired of these 2 acts and they might surprise you:

Josh Hamilton - I'm weary of the personal drama, streaky play, moaning about aches & pains, disinterested at-bats, swinging at bad pitches, and eerie comments.  The ultimate tease is Hamilton; enamored of his own talent.  I no longer support the idea of giving him a multi-year deal for $20 million/yr plus.  He is fool's gold I'm afraid.

Tim Tebow - Now best known for what he can't do, play NFL QB.  I'm tired of the irrational worship that he generates, his creepy demeanor, soft voice, and attention that so far outweighs his ability.  Like Hamilton, he comes across as living in a fantasy world.  He brings a circus to town and who needs it.
