Hudson Houck must have an angel around his shoulders.
How he is again the OLINE coach baffles me. They are terrible during his reign of terror.
He is 68 and seems to get fooled weekly.
==================================
Here is the start of the article.
A running theme during the 2010 season was that longtime offensive line coach Hudson Houck, 68, was on his last legs and was about to retire.
That wasn't the case.
In fact, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones jokes all the time how Houck is the highest-paid offensive line coach in the game at $1 million per season. But there were concerns about the lack of improvement from several young offensive linemen -- most recently Robert Brewster, a third-round pick in 2009.

First Round Quick Thoughts.
Cowboys Pick- I am happy, it has grown old watching fat slow lineman missing people and Romo getting killed. If Rick Gosselin says T Smith is the 7th best player in the draft I have to think it is a great pick for the Boys.
Saints-Great first round - Jordan and Ingram fall to them. Suddenly my prediction two years ago that they would win the Super Bowl that year and this upcoming year looks a little better. Sean P is truly smarter than the others.
Titans-Locker- During the brief interviews with Locker he showed the personality that coaches love.
Panthers- Newton was the best player in college and if your going to draft one to play early it might as well be a physical freak like Sham Cam.
Lions- Suh and Fairley together is just nuts. I would draft only O Lineman for the rest of this draft. If they get Stafford upright they will be something to watch.
Falcons- I love Julio, but that is a lot to give up. Now or never for the media darling Ryan.
May favorite moment of the night may have been Saban's shock and wonder of the Seahawks drafting his former left tackle.
Ponder to Vikes, I have loved Ponder for a couple of years, but he just cannot stay healthy.
Picks I do not like. 49ers, Titans, Vikes, Kansas City.
S, you are right, why do NFL teams draft this QB's so high?

Cowboys
Rumors are flying that the Cowboys will trade down again this year.
I can honestly say, I do not care, especially if they are drafting a O Lineman.
Quinn is the unknown quantity for me. He is a possible top pick without the cheating scandal at UNC.
My disappointment will really go up a notch if Peterson drops to 5 and Dallas does not make an attempt at the best player in the draft.
This draft is supposed to be strong in OLine and DLine. If Jerry can't do a better job in this draft
Dallas is a nobody for the next 4 years. Same ole Same ole.

Most have Newton no 1 and Gabbert in top 7.
I really do understand the need for a QB, but geez outside of Buffalo, I would wait.

My top 10 Draft Picks in February. Lets see what happens.
This is prior to the Combine.
1. Peterson- Shut down CB are just so rare.
2. Green- 6'4 with hands and smooth routes.
3. Dareus- Bigger and Stronger than Fairly with the ability to play two positions
4. Fairley- Dominant in the best conference in America.
5. Bowden- I hate that he missed the year, he was a freak the year before.
6. Quinn- He is a freak athletically, but I worry about him for an unknown reason.
7. Von Miller- I like his ability to get past people.
8. Julio Jones- An animal athletically that will block.
9. Prince Amukamara- You cannot have enough DB's that can tackle.
10. Blaine Gabbert- Redskins at 10?
Changes?
My first consideration is that Newton may have moved up due to his freakish abilities.
Fairley has not interviewed well supposedly.
Green has not worked out as well as Jones after the season.
Von Miller has won over the GM's with his interviews.
What would I change? This is not what I expect, I disapprove of teams drafting for need.
I would move Newton up over Gabbert.
I would put Peterson, Dareus, Green, Von Miller and Jones ahead of Quinn. Bowden and Fairley.

Sporting News top 10 for CFB
1. LSU. We’re buying into the maturation of quarterback Jordan Jefferson; that, and the Tigers’ nasty defense and elite skill players on offense. And at this point, we’re simply not betting against the SEC. Period. 2. Oklahoma: The Sooners’ interior lines are terrific, and quarterback Landry Jones last year had the quietest 38 touchdown passes in the history of the game. Freshman tailback Brandon Williams will bring it all together.
3. Alabama.
4. Stanford.
5. Oregon: Welcome to the world of the SEC, and the Big 12 prior to this season: More times than not, two teams in the same division will be the two best teams in your conference.
6. Boise State: Mountain West Conference or Western Athletic Conference. Does it really make a difference? Boise – fair or not -- only gets to New Orleans with complete chaos.
7. Florida State: Seriously, this is the year the ‘Noles return to the nation’s elite.
8. Ohio State.
9. Oklahoma State.
10. Nebraska: There’s a chance – a very good chance – electric quarterback Taylor Martinez and a wicked defense can lead to great things in Year 1 in the Big Ten. If Martinez can stay healthy.
================
My Comments
With every quote from the "mad hatter" about Jordan Jefferson improving I actually get closer to puking. His spring game performance was the same passes and slow decisions we have watched for 3 years. This leaves me with a jaded feeling on LSU being national champ favorites.
Oklahoma should be better and seem like a solid contender.
Florida State would really be a special situation.
Stanford? Really?
In the end, I expect Bama to roll again this year.

QB Rankings
I did plan on commenting about the QB rankings from the previous post and had to stop what I was doing.
Jonathan, your comment is correct and I agree with S that the 3 and 4 spots should have
Rodgers and Rivers behind Manning and Brady. Anyone that knows me knows that Manning would never be behind Brady due to the situations that Manning has responsibilities in the Colts offense.
Brees is really a good QB, but he cannot throw with the other QB's. Saint Sean is his guardian angel and will take him to his yellow jacket.
The hardest rankings for me to accept is Vick and Ryan at 7.
The East Coast writers have pushed Ryan too high, would anything suggest he is better than Jay Cutler?
Vick, where do I start. He did have a great year, but does anyone really think that Andy Reid would not have won
as many games with another good QB, heck the inaccurate McNabb is going to the Hall of Fame because of the system.
My Order.
Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Rivers, Brees, Roth, Romo, Schaub, Vick, Tie- Ryan and Flacco, Manning (the worst offensive system to work in)
Statistically, wins, system numbers and pressure drive my rankings.
I am ready with the numbers if you like. If Rivers wins any playoff games he will surpass everyone.

Cowboys Draft
Espn Breakdown of needs.
Cowboys -- Offensive tackle: There is a lot of age and not enough talent at this position, with the biggest need at right tackle. Marc Colombo can't protect the edge and right guard Leonard Davis is in the same boat. Left tackle Doug Free has a chance as a better run blocker than pass protector, and if they found a LT he could move back to the right side.

NBA Playoffs- Is it as wide open as it seems?
Spurs are down 3-1 to a team that has never won a playoff game until this series.
An amazing turn of events for the Spurs, whose defense and interior game of the past seems to have disappeared completely.
Lakers - Hornets tied at 2-2.
Then superstars Chris Paul and Kobe make comments that they would hit their mothers to win a game.
Classy marquee players.
Mavs, Bulls, Celtics and Heat all look beatable.
Can the Thunder really win this thing?

Ranger Closer.
Confusing!
That is all I can say about the stressful situation the the Rangers created during the spring with the discussions on making Neftali Feliz a starter. It upset Feliz and created good radio, but a complete waste of time.
What happens next. Feliz hits the DL. (Another sore arm on a 22year flame thrower. )
Then the questions start that the Rangers don't have anyone to take his role as a closer since his injury.
If this is true, why was the topic even raised?

Call it QB Disease
Everyone you listen to will say that there are 4 really premium players in this draft: Patrick Peterson, Marcel Darius, A.J. Green, and Von Miller. None are QB's. Further, most will tell you that Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, et al are not premium players and should be rated 2nd and 3rd rounders. Yet it seems that 3, 4, or even 5 QB's may go in round one.
Call it QB Disease. The smartest and best paid football executives continue to go blind when it comes to the QB position and drafting. As the draft approaches, they build up these flawed QB's and talk themselves into picking them high because they are basically desperate in a QB-driven league. Half of them will flop and people will scratch their heads and wonder what happened.
Step back and think about taking a raw kid who has played 1 year of major football in a unique offense, has been in trouble with the law, has a meddling father, and who says he sees himself as a global icon, with the first overall pick! Totally nuts. Millions of dollars and people's careers on the line for that kind of risk! But these scouts and GM's are the league's best and brightest? Insane.

Parcells on the Draft

TV Loves the 'Boys
The NFL schedule once again has your Cowboys figuring prominently on TV. Dallas has 6 national games, the most of any team. This despite the fact that they were 0-6 in national games last season. The most watched Sunday Night Football game last year was the 8-4 Eagles vs. 4-8 Dallas. The 'Boys bring the eyeballs to the TV regardless of how they're playing.

Tough Decision for Cowboys Coming Up
The debate is raging in DFW among the writers and talking heads about what is best for the 'Boys with the 9th pick. You hear a little talk about defensive line, but mostly people are split on cornerback vs. O-line. The 2 most prominent names are definately Tyron Smith of USC and Prince Amakumura of Nebraska although one writer was lobbying for J.J. Watt the D-lineman from Wisconsin. I lean toward tackle myself where we're basically in dire straits. At least you can argue that Newman and Jenkins could improve, while Columbo is just done.

NBA Draft
Kentucky loses two Freshman to the draft with Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones.
I was glad to see that Doron Lamb returned for next year.
These two, to me, do not display the athletic skills of the 4 that left last year.
When Barnes at North Carolina stayed, I thought that just maybe, next years NCAA tourney would provide better teams and give kids a reason to stay in school.
I find no fault with the kids chasing the big money, but it does hinder their development.

Dwight Howard.
Normally, defensive player of the year would be the highlight of a day worth talking about.
Did you see the Howard put up 46 points and 19 boards. and he missed 8 of his 22 Free Throws.
The entire Magic team must have been watching him instead of playing in this loss to the Hawks in game one.

This year is no different that last, I DO NOT have any excitement from the start of the playoffs.
I really do not think the NBA game is very much fun to watch.
Way too much one on one basketball and the refs are horrible about giving teams and players preferential treatment.
The bastardizing of basketball has ruined the NBA.

A National Award to Local Coach.
http://naia.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/041311aaa.html
This award and article made my day.
I spoke with him this morning and his friends are giving him grief about what "Character" means to those who really know him. (It is great stuff.)
After spending time with the Pilots Coach and hearing him talk about his players and other people not related to sports, I will say that the national coaches picked a perfect example for what a College Coach should represent. He cares about his people and openly shows it daily.
Did I mention he can coach a bit?
(212-58 79% winning percentage at LSUS - How good is this winning percentage. Coach K is at 76%.)

Hamilton
S, I agree with you. I do not blame the coach on the attempt.
Should there have been a discussion between coaches not to put him in that situation.
Probably!
You are right, Josh doesn't play half way at anything, he is full speed.
It is a freak injury, I still do not understand how it happened.
The higher Deities give even the most special human beings, like Hamiliton, a flaw. I guess "The Natural" is just fragile.

Hamilton's Latest Injury
Many in DFW and around the league will want to blame the Rangers or the 3rd base coach for Hamilton's latest injury debacle. I personally blame Josh himself. The Rangers are trying to protect him, but he won't alter his style on the bases or the field. With his frame and injury history, he should be banned from ever diving or sliding headfirst. It's his fault and his alone that he went barrelling into home like that today when sliding feet first is the best play. Now he pays the price and we'll get yet another partial year from the Natural.

Martellus Bennet needs to disappear.
Marty B has spent his Cowboy years grasping for the spot light. He mainly lives in the media spot lights. He has music, you tube, and a clothing line while lacking anything original in artistic talent you cannot hear in a high school freshman gym class.
His play has created coaching rumors to surface that he doesnt work hard or know the plays.
Basically, he is another high school legend that is the 3rd best TE on the Cowboys.
Recently he said that Kitna should challenge Romo, and spent an interview complimenting Kitna.
Sunday night I watched him back step and say he did not mean Kitna was as good as Romo.
But being Marty B, he blamed others for his perceived failures. He was asked about his rumored poor work ethic. His comment summarized his problem. This is not the exact quote, but close.

A Case for Rose
From the same column, Simmons' case for Derrick Rose expands on what I posted earlier this year about why I like Rose:
......a heated MVP race led by Derrick Rose, who I will choose to remember this season as someone who …
A. Worked his butt off to get better last summer
B. Bought into everything his new coach was selling, led by example and never undermined his coach publicly or privately
C. Was a phenomenal teammate who kept a fringe contender afloat for two months when they were crushed by injuries, then kept them humming as they evolved into a semi-juggernaut
D. Played harder from night to night than anyone else
E. Was the only elite player on a good team who had to make every offensive decision in crunch time because his team didn't have another perimeter player who could create a shot, but hey, let's not factor that into anything
F. Was a legitimate athletic freak who needed to be seen in person to be truly appreciated
and not …
G. The guy whose MVP candidacy got crapped on by the entire blogosphere because his plus/minus and true shooting percentage weren't quite good enough.

A Case for Dirk
My favorite columnist Bill Simmons posted this week about Dirk and the flawed Mavs. It's a fantastic ad for how good Dirk really is and also why the Mavs are an illusion:
If players were forced to argue their own MVP cases, here's what I would write for Dirk to say (add your own German hip-hop accent):
"Um, have you ever watched us? We were playing three-on-five offensively in crunch-time when Caron Butler was healthy. In every close game, we run every play for me. No, really. Watch us some time. According to 82games.com, I'm the league's best clutch scorer: in crunch-time, I make 49.5 percent of my field goals, get to the line more than anyone else and make 89 percent of my free throws. I have chunks of Kobe's crunch-time prowess in my stool. And that's playing with Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion (who couldn't create shots for themselves if they were posting up Yi Jianlian's old chair from the 2007 draft) and Jason Kidd, who's only been decomposing since the All-Star Break. When I got injured in December, we went 2-8 while I was out, then 1-2 as I eased my way back into shape. We're 50-15 when I'm healthy even though Jason Terry is my second-best teammate -- he'd be the fifth-best Bull, fifth-best Celtic, sixth-best Laker and the fifth-best Blazer (a team that we're playing in Round 1).
"I thought for sure we'd make a deadline deal to help me. We didn't have much to trade because everyone on our team is between two and 12 years past his prime except Roddy Beaubois. Our front office decided Roddy was untradeable, which sounded good on paper when he was injured, but then he came back and started playing, and now it's just plain awkward. So far he's looked like either a poor man's Tony Parker or a homeless man's Tony Parker. The Dallas employee who decided Roddy was untradeable must have been the same guy who guaranteed those 1,400 temporary seats would be done for Super Bowl XLV. To be honest, I have no idea how we ended up with a 3-seed. We're going to lose in Round 1 or Round 2. Crap. Anyway, um ... vote for Dirk for MVP!"
S

Masters Day 1
How about I just make a list of topics.
1. I miss Johnny Miller already. Fehrety, Baker-Finch and even Faldo did not provide anything to the broadcast.
2. Tiger changed putters? The best putter I have ever seen changed putters! Really?
3. How can Phil hit that many bad shots and be 2 under par? He was wild! Driver-Putter . Crazy stuff.
4. I heard them say the Woodland is the only PGA player with ball speed over 200mph. Wow. Here come the athletes.
5. Quiros ball speed has to be close to 200mph.
6. If Rory wins it would be very cool. 21 years old with no fear. I want no other Europeans winning.
7. Isn't it funny how some younger players go low every year in early rounds.
8. My Favorite Major in any sport, is great in HD.

Week 1 in Baseball. All Hail the Rangers.
6-0? Is something wrong with this picture? or should I say pitchers.
We knew this line up could hit, but what a a great job from this often under appreciated pitching staff and pitching coaches.
1st in Quality Starts... 2nd in Batting Avg and 4th in Runs.
Next up the 5-1 Orioles who also just swept the Red Sox.
On the opposite end of my surprise start.
Red Sox 0-6?

Evidently the rumors continue for Huff moving back to Texas and joining the Cowboys.

Phil and his Drivers
In 2006, Phil won the Masters with 2 drivers in his bag.
He is considering doing it again this week.
1. Fade Driver 7.5 degrees of loft.- What he used to bomb 330's last weekend and considered his safety driver.
2. "The Bomber" A Draw Driver- Only 5.9 degrees of loft and inch extra in shaft.
Supposedly this Bomber is 20-30 yards longer and will carry the ball over 320.
I cannot even imagine what some of these guys can do.

The Masters
The most explosive Major is upon us and I am excited with the possibilities.
10 Favorites and a comment-
1. Phil- 11-2 odds. 3 Jackets and counting? Repeating at a Major is so rare that it is hard for me to suggest he will. I will be pulling for him.
2. Tiger- 8-1- Forget the Driver problems, at the Masters its about the ability to hit high shots into the par 4's and make putts. If he putts well he can win, but I will not pull for him. Ever.
3. Lee Westwood- 20-1- I just do not like his putting stroke well enough.
4. Kaymer- 20-1 - He is the talent, but has never shown low scores at the Masters.
5. Nick Watney-15-1- He is being labelled a front runner and loaded with talent. I like people that go low.
6. Donald and Baddeley are 25-1- Both bore me.
The Fun Group-
Rory McIlroy- 20-1-He can putt and when he is hot he is special.\
Dustin Johnson- 25-1 - The Talent! He supposedly practiced his game for this course. We will see.
Bubba Watson- 25-1- If he putts good and stays close it will be crazy. I am afraid he will have a mental breakdown.
Anthony Kim- 30-1- Who put him on a diet? When he is on, it is pure excitement.

UCONN
The disappointment of UConn winning the tourney in a year in which recruiting violations were addressed by the NCAA fits this tournament well.
Overall, the tourney was great. This final game was pathetic and symbolized how bad the teams were this year. What has happened to the teams with talented players being able to play all parts of the game in a form of teamwork?
My gut says its not the NBA departures, but the AAU influence on the players hurting the development and promoting me first during the early years.

Johnny Miller - Soothsayer.
During the final round, with Scott Verplank and "Phil the Thrill" tied on the 14th hole.
The subject of Dallas raised Verplank being in contention in past tournaments was discussed.
Mickelson had just made 5 Birdies in a row to tie Verplank for the lead. Verplank was playing great at the time.
===
Stats were broadcast that Verplank has 5 PGA wins, but he has 3 wins out of 17 attempts when leading the tourney after 54 holes.
Millers says this:
"He is a tough guy, And THINKS he is he tough under pressure.
But obviously that stat doesn't doesn't bear it out totally, but he is sure a good match player."
teams.
Verplank immediately falls apart with a fanned 5 iron and a 3 putt. He misses a short one on the same hole.
Miller says this:
"The only way you miss on this greens is make a bad stroke or GET A LITTLE GAG IN YOU"
Miller is constantly calling the shots, prior to the shot, while the others always pick a safe guess.
He is the best.

Phil had 18 birdies in last 36 holes
Sometimes we need to be reminded how good Phil and Tiger have really been.
Phil is now tied for 6th all time in PGA wins.
He will never get close to Tiger, but it truly has been a remarkable career. He is now 40 years of age with 39 PGA wins.
It is funny that since the PGA started testing for Roids, Phil is now hitting it way past Tiger on most days.
He still cannot putt, well enough to every be a legend, but he is pure excitement.
It was great for him to win in Houston, where his family has been seeing the cancer specialist at MD Anderson. I now feel much better for my earlier post this week about Phil's illness as well as his families fight with Cancer.

25 Years Ago at Augusta
This year marks the 25th anniversary of most golf fans' favorite memory; Jack Nicklaus' most unlikely and last major win at the Masters. Lee Trevino related his memory of leaving the course, driving to Atlanta to catch a plane, and sitting in the airport with hundreds of screaming fans as they watched it unfold.
Some great facts to recall: Jack shot 30 on the back nine and played the final 10 holes in 7 under par. He bested a field that included 6 hall of famers in addition to himself (Norman, Kite, Ballesteros, Watson, Langer, and Price). He opened with a 74 and trailed Norman by 4 shots going into Sunday. He finished birdie, birdie, birdie, bogey, birdie, par, eagle, birdie, birdie, par.
Finally, the tournament summarized Greg Norman: going to 18 needing par to force a playoff and birdie to win, he bogeyed.

Talented Tar Heels
Which NCAA team had the most players invited to the NFL combine this spring? 'Bama, Florida, Oklahoma, LSU? Nope, North Carolina. The talented but troubled 'Heels had 12 players at the combine. By comparison, Auburn and Oregon had 8 combined. Reminds of when Butch Davis left Miami loaded to the gills about a decade ago. Whatever else he is, we know for certain he can recruit and develop talent.

Best Home Field in College Football.
ESPN insiders had a crazy article on the Best Home Fields in College Football written by
Brian Fremeau a Football Outsiders columnist. Many disputes immediately kicked up and not just from SEC fans.
Only ONE _ SEC school was in the Top 10 Nationally. Mississippi State???? Huh? Cowbells forever!
The formula he used compared actual performance versus expected performance to isolate that answer and extract home-field advantage -- and separately, "road-field" disadvantage -- for each team. The results were predictable for several teams, and very surprising for others.
LSU was rated lowest home field advantage in SEC and 12th from the bottom in America.
His Bottom 10 include Texas and USC, he actually compared them to Duke.
Another asinine judgement--His top road teams - Northwestern, followed by Bowling Green, Tulane and USC. How did this get published?
Well, I was about to do some formulas when he ESPN Blog man figured up the best home field in the SEC only using SEC against nationally ranked Non-Conference opponents and SEC opponents.
2003-2010 seasons
1. LSU: 27-7 (.794)
2. Georgia: 22-9 (.710)
3. Florida: 21-9 (.700)
4. Auburn: 23-10 (.697)
5. Alabama: 22-12 (.647)
6. Tennessee: 21-13 (.618)
7. South Carolina: 18-17 (.514)
8. Arkansas:17-17 (.500)
9. Ole Miss: 14-18 (.437)
10. Kentucky: 11-23 (.323)
10. Mississippi State: 11-23 (.323)
12. Vanderbilt: 6-27 (.182)

Fearless Prediction
After watching the Rangers/Red Sox opening day game, one of the impressions I'm left with is what a great trade the Sox made to get Adrian Gonzales. He is such a fine hitter and has spent his whole career playing in a tough hitter's park with no lineup protection. Now he will play in Fenway and surrounded by great hitters throughout the lineup. He has great plate discipline and pitchers won't be able to work around him with that lineup. I don't usually make a lot of predictions, but I think Gonzales it going to be a monster playing for that team in that park. He would be my early pick for MVP.

Developing Issue for the Cowboys
On the heels of Dez Bryant's bizzare behavior at a Dallas mall comes information that he has defaulted on several hundred thousand dollars worth of jewelry loans. He is out there on his own with the Cowboys unable to keep tabs on him during the lockout. It may be ironic that the Cowboys passed on Randy Moss because of character issues and watched him become an all-time great, but now find themselves burdened with an equally talented player who may have even worse character flaws. He looks to be headed toward a lot of drama which the Cowboys don't need.

Why They Cheat
Dateline Ann Arbor, Michigan: Brady Hoke signed a 6-yr contract to coach football for an average of $3.25 million annually, almost 5 times what he made this year at San Diego St. Is it any wonder that these coaches will do anything to land and secure one of these jobs? What corners would you cut and what rules would you bend to score that type of income?

Bonds Trial
Have I mentioned lately that I cannot think of anything bad enough to wish on Barry Bonds? He was the perfect anti-Christ for the game of baseball: a man with no morals, no respect for the game, and an ego to fill 10 mansions. He didn't care about the consequences, nor did he have any integrity to offend. He made a mockery of all that happened before him in the great game of baseball, with all it's rich history. His ego was paramount. I hope he rots along with his little tiny gonads.

S
Royals/A-Rod Headline
So, A-Rod's 2011 salary of $32 million, yes $32 million!, nearly equals the the entire payroll of the KC Royals who come in at $36 million. That is an embarassment to the sport and these clowns wonder how they lost their favorite sport status to the NFL? I don't blame any one team for this situation. Some overspend and some underspend. I blame the complete lack of strong leadership where no one has any long term vision for the health of the sport. No one will make tough decisions meant to benefit the overall health of baseball. It's every owner for himself.

Can the Natural Do it Again?
Josh Hamilton will take the field today as the defending AL MVP. He will attempt to have a 2nd straight big year for the first time in his short career. His hitting coach is gone, and expectations are now through the roof.
A quote from an unnamed scout from SI: "I think you are looking at Mantle all over again. He's the strongest guy in baseball and doesn't have any holes." Wow, talk about expectations.
This will be a big story line this year for me. Can Hamilton assume the confidence the goes with being the best player in the league? Can he live under that pressure, being pitched around, the scrutiny when he slumps? If he can mentally figure it out, he'll be the best player in the league for 5 years.

Pay for Play
In the wake of the Auburn interviews on HBO, a former TX A&M asst coach claims that the owner of a recruiting service told him that Patrick Peterson would cost more than $80,000. Of course Peterson has denied any involvement. These sums being thrown around are mind-boggling. I will say again that NCAA football is too big to control and there is too much money involved for anyone to think that these coaches aren't doing whatever is necessary to win.
The south is where the talent is and where the most fanaticism exists. Ohio St. and USC operate much like SEC schools, but there is little doubt to me that the schools across the SEC and Texas as well are doing anything and everything to win. If they did enough digging and spent enough resources to get deep enough, they could blow the lid off. But I can't see them doing it because there is too much money at stake.

Lakers Pound Mavs
The Lakers routed the Mavs in LA last night, pushing the Mav's losing streak against Western Conf playoff teams to 7. I hate to say it, but to me the Mavs have become irrelevant even in the midst of all the 50-win seasons. They have become the ultimate tease for their fans. I think that Chandler and Butler brought a possible culture change to Dallas, but Butler went down leaving them still leaning on Dirk and Jet who are really good but at the end of the day are jump-shooters first and foremost. I barely pay attention to the Mavs anymore because I know they will get pushed around in the playoffs and disappoint again. I think the fact is that this team will not win a championship. Their narrow window is closing fast.
