Golf

The PGA was just brutal. I cannot side with Dustin Johnson even if I want to.
I saw the sheet of the bunkers and he should have known it was a bunker. Shame on him and his Caddie.

I can disagree that the bunkers should not be played as anything but a waste bunker. With people standing in the bunker, grounding your club should not be a big issue.
Another outdated and ridiculous rule for golf. Dye should not have defended that it should have been a waste bunker.

My biggest regret is Bubba Watson and his approach shot. The 6 iron was the mistake, not the angle of approach. I respect his willingness to go for it. As I personally experienced, when your nerves get high, you lose the power. He should have played for 10 yards over the green and chipped back. Mental disaster! The German player truly is a better player.

On the Ryder Cup. I would pick Zach Johnson, Anthony Kim and Tiger Woods.
I hate Woods but talent is talent. It will be a distraction for the team but he is the best.
Kim missed 3 months and wasn't healthy and almost made it anyway. Zach Johnson is just steady.

I enjoyed seeing some fairly good golf down the stretch for a change in a major. That 18th hole is just brutal. I heard Watson afterward talking about playing to win. But I disagree that playing to win means shooting at flags every time. Witness David Toms when he won the PGA by laying up. Brains and composure!

David had to lay because he could not hit the shot. Watson had the shot. There is a big difference in the two.

Just so you know, Watson laid up earlier this year and he lost a tournament because of the fear.
