Kentucky over Louisville
OhioState over Kansas
Louisville is scrappy and seem to play close games every night, so I worry about the Ky guards trying to play physical. If they do this and get into a shoving match it will slow down the speed of the offense.
The two big men are interesting in the KU game. Robinson is a special athlete, but I like Sullinger. He has the ability to shoot from different angles and can hit a 18 foot jump shot under duress.

Dodgers Saga - Only in America
So this ass buys the Dodgers for about $400 million, lets the franchise decay to one of it's all-time low points, goes insolvent, and has Selig strip him of his duties. Turns around and sells for $2 billion! I heard he is coming out of it with $800 million in cash. Mark Cuban said he was not interested above $1 billion and the Steve Garvey group went to 1.2. Forbes had them valued at $800 million. And McCourt still has parking revenue! The talk is that unless they sell someone on a Dodger-only network, there is no way the new owners can make the finances work. $2 billion!
The Dodgers are one of the few franchises in all of sports that carry the history and status to really matter. If this group is too strapped to put money into player development and to be active in free agency, they will be no better off than with McCourt. How would you like to know that you bid almost a billion dollars above the other bidders? I like for the Dodgers to be good. I'm afraid this splashy news will end up being a disaster.

Weird US Open Fact.
Billy Casper won the 1959 US OPEN by 1 Stroke.
He laid up all 4 days on a par 3 and played the hole at Even Par.
Casper had 31 one putt greens that week.

Just Saying!!!!
Miami Heat Record with D Wade 26-12.
Without: D Wade. 8 - 1.
11-9 when Wade Takes 17 shots in a game.
S, I know you hate this comment, but he hurts the team play of the Heat.
He has the Barkley syndrome, he has to have the ball to be important and it hurts the better players on his team.
J.
The only way the Heat do not win the title is if Wade gets in the way of his teammates again this year.

Cowboys Draft Pick
I was a little shocked to see an post on the Cowboys Pick.
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2012/3/27/2905578/dallas-cowboys-2012-mock-drafts-consensus-pick-emerging
The polled 9 writers.
5 picked - Michael Brockers from LSU. I must admit the kid was physically different on the field.
Then ESPN Dallas Blog -- Scout Broaddus story on Brockers.
"Usually lined up as a defensive tackle for the Tigers, but is projected to play end in the NFL. … Has not played much football in college and there was a thought that he would come back to school, but he had to turn pro to try to help his family. Is raw in the sense of techniques, but there is no mistake when you turn on the film and watch him play that he understands what he needs to do to be successful. … Shows outstanding initial quickness and snap in his game. Plays with power in his upper body. Brockers will extend his hands and control blockers with ease. Have seen him fight the double teams against Oregon and be productive. Does an outstanding job of getting up the field. Puts blockers on their heels with a surge of power. Is a hard guy to move one-on-one. Once he gets going, he is into the backfield. You see offensive linemen get stalemated a great deal of the time as he extends to look for the ball. Does a nice job of playing down the line of scrimmage with his hands. … If he has a weakness, he needs to do a better job of fighting the low block with his hands and will need to work on his twist stunts when on the pass rush in games. Needs to try and be a little cleaner when working to the outside. Had some problems in the Oregon game, but was better against Arkansas. Was able to get around the corner and be more disruptive. … Showed a nice, quick spin move to free himself against the Florida, but, as mentioned, will need some technique work to develop more pass-rush moves. Right now it’s with more power and quickness. Showed the ability to keep his pads down and get pocket push. … Really different from Quinton Coples of North Carolina, who tends to play taller. Plays with a form of body control against both run and pass. Do not see him on the ground except when he got cut. … Like the way he is able to find the ball and work in that direction to make the play. Showed a quick burst for a tackle for loss against the Gators on a running play. … Plays hard all the time. When he got worn down some, he got hooked on blocks, but I didn’t feel that it was a lack of effort. … Played inside at nose tackle some against Arkansas in a three-man line. Will give a 3-4 team some reps inside at nose but also be a pocket pusher as a defensive tackle in the nickel. … Brockers is clearly on the Cowboys’ radar, and if he gets to their spot at 14, this will probably be a no-brainer for a team that needs a defensive end. The question will be if they feel that Fletcher Cox of Mississippi State is a better fit. Both are nice players, but I really do feel that Brockers’ best football is ahead of him. "

NFC East
Giants are coming off 2nd Super Bowl in 3 years.
Today the Eagles sign DeMarco Ryans and the Cowboys 3rd place spot is looking secure.
Even with the improvements this year, unless those two new guards and new coach are drastically more prepared in Dallas, 9-7 is about the top of my expectations.

Mike Jenkins wants a new Contract in Big D.
Really?
Maybe Jerry should put a new contract on Brandon Jacobs thigh pad and tell brittle Mike to tackle him for it.
In his defense, Jenkins did break up 10 passes last year for the Cowboys.. Ha.

Parcells and Payton
I think it is a good PR move for the Saints and Payton to use the media hound, oops I mean "darling", to mask the issues that are hitting New Orleans.
1. I think it would be good for the Saints in most aspects.
2. I think Parcell's would hate it. I cannot imagine The Tuna being a Token Coach.

Woods Follow up.
On my previous post, I mentioned the Valentines Day Prediction and commented on Tigger's putting being the key.
---
Found this on Tour Report on Yahoo.
Alignment: Woods has maintained all season that his putting stroke was fine. During a practice session, he discovered his alignment was bad. He was setting up to his putts with his shoulders slightly open. It took a few rounds for him to feel comfortable with a square address position, but his putting has improved.
---
God help us, if the meds are back in his system and he starts winning. The media will cram his greatness down our throat and somehow related to his mental side.
History says that mentally, he is just ignorant to everything but golf, but physically he can do things others cannot.

Woods First Win since 2009
I typed this on Valentines Day.
****************************************************************************************************
I still feel Tigger is misreading his putts and he knows it, which is making everything seem off for him.
His new swing looks good and the distance control is correctable on his irons.
He will win before Augusta on sheer talent and a good putting day.
****************************************************************************************************
Sometimes I hate being right.
He dominated start to finish this weekend.
Funny how those nagging injuries from some unknown cause (ha) created early age tissue deterioration, but it doesn't cause him to withdraw when he is in the hunt.

Spare me from Tebow Talk
You know that I've always been a big Tebow fan. He towered over the best conference for 3 years and carried the nation's best program. But I'm so sick of hearing Tebow talk on the radio that it's turning me against him just because of the over-saturation. Last year was really cool because I think the NFL desparately needs something different to keep things interesting. But the circus is just ridiculous and it will now get even bigger in NY. How is it possible for 1 guy to be so polarizing? Everything you hear about him is extreme on either side. As much as I respect Tebow, his ability does not match the coverage he's getting and I don't see an end in sight.

Elite Eight!
Getting serious now! Some of my impressions and observations as we go into one of the best weekends of the year. Izzo did a good job this year winning the Big 10 with that team; not one of his best. Kansas is extremely unimpressive to me as a 2 seed; they struggle every game. Robinson is not nearly as talented as Anthony Davis, but Robinson had a better year, carrying that team to a 2 seed. The talent at Kentucky is completely ridiculous. Duke continues to struggle with anyone who can challenge them athletically. Indiana gave KY a good battle; Crean can coach, I expect them to be a long-term factor in the Big 10 going forward. Florida could make it to the Final 4, but I'm still surprised that Donovan has not maintained his talent level after the championship teams. I'm scared of Ohio St. right now. How is it possible that west coast basketball has fallen so far off the planet? Please tell me LSU is going to fire that excuse for a coach! Dark days for SEC hoops. After watch UNC last night, I guess Kendall Marshall is the most valuable player in the country? I still love March Madness, but I do miss the great players of the past when they had to stay 3 years and were well-developed dominators by the end of their 3rd year. Golden days for Baylor athletics. I still like Kentucky to win this thing.

That Sound You Heard Tonight in the Sweet 16 "Clank"
"Clank" was the sound I heard watching the Florida-Marquette shots from 10 feet in first half.
Florida only survives with their prized rookie.
But, if they win tonight, I would expect 2 SEC teams in final four. Louisville is too streaky for my taste.
I had FLA in final 8 losing to Spartans.
-----------------------
My Bracket is now missing Mich State and Duke from final 8 and the Spartans in Final 4.
My finals.
UNC over Ky in finals. 81-78 _ Now without Marshall I doubt they make it past the Buckeyes.
Ohio State was my 4th pick.
I have 12 of sweet 16.
I guess that proves what everyone tells me, I know nothing!
I think I am in 100,000th place on Yahoo's 300,000 entries.
--------------------
BAP sent me this factoid. Pitino 9-0 in Sweet 16.
I dont know what it means, but it is impressive.
--------------------
4 teams from Ohio in Sweet 16. --- I am impressed.
While the states of LA, MS, TX and CA have zero! ---- I am disgusted.
It is illogical considering that each of these states will have as many pros as the state of Ohio when you count the graduation years of the players that would have made up these teams.

Tell the truth, Do you miss Butler at all? I don't.
Should I sign this JC of Mars?

DFW All-Area Hoops Team
Wow, today's all-area high school hoops team featured the following: 2 McDonalds All-Americans and 3 juniors who are all ranked in the top 28 players in the nation for the class of 2013. I've got to get out more and see these players. The talent here is just through the roof.
MARCUS SMART
Flower Mound Marcus, Sr., G, 6-4
Stats: Averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists. Smart led FM Marcus to back-to-back 5A state championships.

ISAIAH AUSTIN
Arl. Grace Prep, Sr., C, 7-0
Stats: Averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks. Austin helped lead Grace Prep to its second consecutive TAPPS 4A title.
Did you know? A third-team all-area selection last year, Austin has signed with Baylor. He was selected as a McDonald’s All-American. He is already being projected as an NBA first-round draft pick in 2013.
KEITH FRAZIER
Kimball, Jr., G, 6-5
Stats: Averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Frazier helped Kimball to a second-consecutive 4A state title.
Did you know? Frazier is ranked by Rivals as the nation’s No. 13 prospect in the class of 2013. He has offers from schools such as Kansas, Arizona, Baylor, Texas and UCLA.
MATT JONES
DeSoto, Jr., G, 6-4
Stats: Averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He shot 54 percent from the field.
Did you know? Jones, Rivals’ No. 28 national player in the class of 2013, has committed to Duke. His DeSoto teams have the made the regional final the last two seasons.
JULIUS RANDLE
Prestonwood, Jr., F, 6-9
Stats: Averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and helped lead Prestonwood to the TAPPS 5A state championship.

Saints Fallout
Much of yesterday's national reaction to the Saints penalties were emotional in nature. But, here's what I see: NFL management decided to deliver a shockwave in order to convince everyone of their seriousness in changing forever the nature of the league. Due to it's size and success, the NFL is now a target. Goodell and company simply cannot afford for this massive corporation that they run to churn out players who are physical wrecks at age 50 without proper medical attention and coverage.
I myself have not wanted to accept it, but the implications from yesterday are clear. NFL management wants the NBA on turf. They want skill and athleticism to define their game, not brutality. There is too much at stake. The penalties are almost beyond belief, but make it clear that the old culture that drove the league for so many years cannot continue. Goodell believes that fans will continue to fill the coffers without the blood and guts of the old days. He is probably right.
If there were any doubts before as to how serious league management and Roger Goodell are about making the NFL a completely different show, yesterday gave them the opportunity to prove it. Our kids will grow up with a different NFL than what we did. The headhunters will be extinct. Games will produce 60 or 70 points, QB's will be clean, wide-receivers will dart all over the field without fear. As I've said so many times, money rules. And Roger Goodell gets paid a lot of it to make sure it keeps flowing.

Jonathan's Comments Previous Post
Jonathan has left a new comment on your post "Year Suspension For Coach.":
The lack of equality and the setting of a new precedent is my issue with the suspension. In the history of the NFO a head coach has never been suspended for a game- much less a season. The last known issue is Spygate where the coach is also the GM- he received nothing!
I do not want to discount the infractions and the cover up- a punishment was warranted but this takes a teams HC away for 2 drafts and one season. I argue steroids and the use of other drugs in the 70s, 80s, 90s has a bigger effect on injuries than a pool of cash. Known teams abusing this are viewed as GREAT with Hall of fame coaches and players
Goodell is changing precedent with these suspensions- 3 big reasons
1) Lies and coverup
2) Saints arrogance over this time frame
3) Lawsuits from old players

Year Suspension For Coach.
The things that the Payton did are inexcusable and I really believe there is more information that the league could not verify other than via word of mouth.....I.E. Attempted injury Manning and Farve.
But, after the league let Belicheat off for SPYGATE after numerous warning and denials seems absurd.
Does Pat's Owner Craft's relationship with the Commish play apart in the lack of equality.

Sapp-Shockey and the Saints
I always find it funny when Warren Sapp tries to be anything but a joke.
Today he attacks Shockey for being a for the NFL.
Sapp called him a Snitch.
“My source that was close to the situation informed me that Jeremy Shockey is the one that was the snitch initially. I trust my source unequivocally.”
The NFL should Fire Sapp immediately for using the word Snitch.
If Peyton Manning or Bret Farve would have been crippled or killed while these players were being paid to INJURE players, not hit,,,INJURE. Would any players consider it a SNITCH, when the person that talked may have saved a players life.
I am sure Saints fans are glad other teams played fair and didn't pay to injure Brees, Brees is a itty bitty QB and could have been lost for a long time.
Besides the Saints probably were out of pain pills with that coaching staff sneaking handfuls.
--------I like Shockey's response: ( It may be BS, but I like it when former thug Cane players fight each other. )
“It’s reckless, it’s careless, it’s hurtful to me and the great time I had with the Saints,” said Shockey, who was accused by Sapp of being the “snitch” in this story. “Sean Payton is a father figure to me. I would never do that to him or to the Saints.” “I loved my time in New Orleans and now people are killing me on social media thinking I did this. I love Who Dat nation.”
“Sapp can say what he wants about me, but if he really says that he’ll put his life on the line for his source, we’ll see. I’ve never been a guy who failed multiple drug tests. I’ve never been divorced. I don’t have four kids by four different women. I don’t lie. This attacks my character and it’s not fair.”
Ha. I wonder who Shockey was talking about with the Drug Test and Kids...

Tebow to Jets
Pre-Tebow-The Broncos were 1-4.
Tebow takes the Broncos to a Div Title and a Playoff win.
Tebow's game was not pretty but without him Elway's team wins maybe 2-4 games.
Elway ridiculed Tebow during the entire season and was classless.
But to hear, Elway praise Tebow today in his ridiculous way turned my stomach.
Someone please tell Elway to keep his mouth shut.
Maybe Elway was pissed, because Tebow cost him a shot at Andrew Luck.
Tebow, Ryan, Sanchez and the ego's at New York's 4th Favorite Sports Franchise will be interesting.
I never liked Sanchez, so either way the Jets offense will stink 80 percent of the time, so lets see TEBOW!

La Taxpayers and Saints
The idiotic officials in my home state are openly trying give a multi-million dollar business more money than ever before.
Article for TimesPicayune:
Under the current agreement, the state will pay the team $23.5 million a year through the 2010 season as part of the 10-year, $186 million deal the two sides signed in 2001. The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District, which is heading discussions on behalf of the state, is hopeful that the sides can reach an agreement without large subsidies from the state.
Completely ridiculous!!!! Now we know where the Bounty money was coming from.
Fear not the insight of the La Corruption and the back room deals.
During the year 2000/2001 when this deal was signed and gold was handed to the car dealer turned NFL owner.
The state of Louisiana spent only about 5 Million Dollars ($4,445,592) on public education for our kids while the Saints were signing for 23.5 million.
Why would I be surprised?
On a good day, the Saints tax money is hard to accept, today makes me want to puke.

Is this the worse Les Miles Quote Ever?
This the comment after Z Mettenberger had a fight with a lineman in practice.
I did not hear this, I only read it:
----
"I like his attitude. He just needs to keep a cool head," Miles said. "But he's in it -- he's competing like hell. I like him a lot, but Randall can run and I think that Zach & Stephen both know that I have the want for a QB that's more like JJ. I heart JJ and I miss him like you wouldn't believe. I think about him all the time"
----
Lets break it apart: --
Can Miles really be so defensive and pig headed, that he is still trying to sell people on Jefferson great potential?

- He likes ZM because he fights....(((Hmmmm))). (remind anyone of a Former QB at a bar)
- Keep a Cool Head- (Don't fight when people can see you)
- I think that Zach and Stephen both know that I have the want for a QB that's more like JJ..( Really? I guess the embarrassing assault and total failure as a QB that can move an offense is irrelevant.)
- I think about him all the time. (He still doesn't know he was wrong)

LSU Basketball
It is rather simple to me, Trent Johnson is the worse coach in LSU history.
There is no possible excuse for a man that coaches at LSU, with the talent level within 300 miles from his front door, that cannot be a top 20 team annually.
His last 3 years in the unexplainable and truly pitiful SEC of the 2010's, Johnson's teams have produced 12 total conference wins. I am so sick of watching him under utilize the athletes and continue to put a poor shooting and clumsy looking team on the floor.
Send him on his way! Maybe he can go back to Nevada, its the only time he ever tied for a conference title.

The Saints "Again" in Trouble.
Here we go again with our STATE funded parasite.
I thought Payton and Loomis were gone after the Feds had them on drug issues.
The NFL has hit them HARD. WOW!.
********1 year for Saint Sean, 2-2nd rounders, D coord out indefinitely.
There must be so much more behind the scenes that the NFL has covered up.
Jonathan says that the fact that the NFL told them to stop and they continued is a driving force.
It seems too severe with our current information.
Penalties:
*The New Orleans Saints are fined $500,000. In addition, because the violation involves a competitive rule, the Saints will forfeit their selections in the second round of the 2012 and 2013 NFL drafts.
• Saints coach Sean Payton is suspended without pay for the 2012 NFL season, effective April 1.
• Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is suspended without pay for the first eight regular-season games of the 2012 season.
• Former Saints (and current St. Louis Rams) defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is suspended indefinitely from the NFL, effective immediately. Commissioner Goodell will review Coach Williams' status at the conclusion of the 2012 season and consider whether to reinstate him, and, if so, on what terms. Commissioner Goodell said he will give close attention to the extent to which Coach Williams cooperates with the NFL in any further proceedings.
• Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt is suspended without pay for the first six regular-season games of the 2012 season.
• The Saints and the individuals disciplined are expected to participate in efforts led by the league office to develop programs that will instruct players and coaches at all levels of the game on the need for respect for the game and those who participate in it, on principles of fair play, safety and sportsmanship, and to ensure that bounties will not be part of football

Golf World Rankings and Q School.
I posted in January saying "Here Comes Rory!"
Donald went back to Number 1 with his win in a weak field, but I looked up the real numbers for last 20 events they played. The Rankings are useless on this two year running list.
(Rory-11 of his last 12 straight tourneys with a top 5 finish. His exception was an 11th place.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The PGA is getting rid of Q-School and I like it!
This is the guidelines:
1.The top 75 Nationwide players
2.PGA Tour players No. 126-200 on the money lists
They will compete for 50 Tour cards in the final three Nationwide tournaments of the season.

The Cowboys
For the first time in 5 years, I actually think Dallas may have a shot at better than a 500 record.
My reasoning in simple, the two guards they signed combined with a new OLINE coach will give
Romo a second longer in some games to pick apart people and maintain the possession and keep the Defense off the field.
I like the Defensive changes also, I mean, could it get any worse? Carr a big upgrade, he will fight.
Connor at LB, I am good here, but I hope Carter gets involved here also.
Spenser being kept annoys me. Underacheivers need to all go.
Orton signing is big to me, Romo is banged up annually and one win with Orton may get them in to the playoffs.
One good draft, some additional free agents next year and Dallas may be a contender.
Can I mention, the media talkers being released in the last year. Bennett, Newmann, and Choice. Thank Goodness. Did I mention the useless kicker Buehler, finally gone.

Manning
Overall, I am glad he signed at Denver. John Fox has proven, that as a coach he is able to adjust his system to things he doesn't necessarily feel comfortable with.
The San Fran option was strange to me for one reason. Coach Jim is an offensive coach that has success with slowing down the game. If he allowed Manning's advanced passing game and freedom, the 49er defense would have been seriously exposed in some games.
Denver WR's are an unknown quality and I will be curious to see how long it takes them to adjust to Manning's ability to throw based on DB's feet adjustments mid route. Will they cut off the routes to open spots, like sand-lot games, that the Colts used? I think they will.

Writer's Block or Apathy?
During the last two months, I have a difficult time making myself comment on sports.
Actually, I think after the Cowboys debacle, LSU title game, Airline Basketball seasons ending injuries and my Golf Coaching duties having starting up, I avoided sports all together.
"Time to get back into it" as Jonathan told me.
*My sympathies to Donnie's family for his grandfathers passing last month. In 1975, Mr. Sam made the first shish kabobs I had ever eaten. They were great! Hated to miss the services because of work. Sorry Donnie.
*Best wishes to Laura on her recovery also.
*So now armed with a new set of Irons to compensate for my recent surgeries, injuries and slower swing speed, I am ready to start commenting on these crazy days of sports.

Franchise QB's
The question was posed this morning: are Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning the greatest QB combo of all-time within one franchise? Other contenders: Starr/Favre, Staubach/Aikman, Montana/Young. I would have to say yes, the Colts duo on the top of the list.

Follow Up on Paul Brown
I found this quote from Bill Belichick while reading Ron Jaworski's book on the NFL. It goes to your previous posts about the greatest NFL coach of all time and reinforces why you all said Paul Brown.
Belichick was able to attend Brown's training camps as a youth and said "the way Paul conducted those training sessions was so much more professional and meticulous than any other camps I visited. Essentially, everything that Paul Brown did with those teams is what we do today. Every film breakdown, meeting, walk-through, and practice is based on Brown's system. Every teaching progression, how plays complement each other - it all goes back to Brown. 95 percent, if not more, of everything we do now comes from him. He is the father of professional football. What he did as a coach fifty years ago, everybody in the NFL is still basically doing the same thing"
Enough said.
