Insufferable Elway

Re: your post on Elway and Tebow; had to put this on a primary post for reference.  John Elway's status as an icon and great QB continues to grow and is a big reason why I have little respect for the media and the so-called experts we're forced to listen to.  They all go along with the flow and don't bother to look at the record.  Yesterday I hear Elway referred to as the "ultimate passer" as they compared him to Tebow.  What??

If I was forced to take the Elway side in an argument, I would talk about his size, athleticism, and amazing arm strength.  He was certainly a competitor.  But John Elway missed people all day long, had no touch, and typically ranked in the bottom  half of the passer ratings for the majority of his career.  How can everyone forget this?  Watch the films.  Many of his throws remind me of Donovan McNabb; skipping at people's feet or missing them by 5 yards.  A cannon for an arm does not make someone a great passer!

John Elway lucked into a good coach at the end of his career who believed in running the ball and built a winning team.  Those teams cemented his legacy and cursed us to hearing about his greatness for the rest of our lives.  He was so far inferior to Dan Marino that I wouldn't even mention them together if not to make a point.  That point being that the culture of winner-take-all in the NFL is making everyone an idiot.  No sane person could watch Dan Marino and John Elway play QB and come away with any opinion except that Elway wasn't in Marino's class.  But now we have people referring to Elway as the "ultimate passer"!

John Elway should send Mike Shanahan and Terrell Davis a thank-you card every day of his life!
