Rangers Trade Deadline

All the pundits around here want the Rangers to pony up for Cliff Lee. Today Sherington proposed Derek Holland, Justin Smoak, plus our top hitting prospect in the minors, for Lee. I try to put myself in the GM shoes, but I just can't see it. This is a woe-begone franchise in desperate need of building some history that the fans can latch onto. We are drafting and developing pretty well right now, and I just don't want to see us jump into the rent-a-player derby. I know potential is just potential, it won't buy you a cup of coffee, but as a fan I would much rather see us ride these kids for a while instead of trading for a short-timer and hoping for a miracle World Series appearance. There is real hope to me that with Hamilton & Young as the cornerstones, there is enough talent to build a long-time contender.

By the way, what a treat it's been to watch Guerrero every night. That man swings with mean intentions and it's made me study his career and appreciate it more. If Hamilton is Mantle-like, I would say Guerrero is Frank Robinson. And, as if you needed more Hamilton stories, the coaches the other night were marveling at his speed down the line. He's hit into only 2 DP's this year.

Frank Robinson is an interesting comparison. I will trust you on this one. I have loved Vlad for years, but Robinson is high company.

I want Lee, but that is a lot to give up for 1 year.

Sign and Trade, I would do it.
