20th Anniversary of Hank Gathers Death and LMU

It was a terrible day in sports 20 years ago.
Hank Gathers collapsed on the court and died later at a hospital. I had chills listening to the his Aunt's voice pleading for help.

Afterwards the story was reported that Gathers not happy with the side effects of the medicine and was cutting down on his meds without the doctor or coaches knowledge.

Immediately after his death, I considered watching Bo Kimble and LMU play in the tournament as a special time. I can still visualize Kimble's tribute and the left handed free throws.

Gathers averaged 32pts and 13.7 rebounds a game lead the nation in both categories.
LMU averaged 122 pts a game. Amazing!

If Westhead would have stayed I wonder what NCAA BBall would look like today.

Kimble and Gathers were 2nd team all america.

This is a diagram of LMU Fastbreak offense.

Staten-- I watched that game LSU won the game when LMU was top 5. I talked to JAC about it last week. The LMU story is really interesting. averageing 120 a game in college. It makes you wonder- what might have been.
