Cheerleading a Sport?

I'm going on my 4th weekend out of 5 watching cheer competitions around the south. It's a weird culture. It's like an exhibition sport, and of course anything with judging is suspect, but the participants are amazing athletes, and there is a lot at stake for many of them. I've seen some tough injuries the last few weeks, and some amazing feats of agility and strength. Here are a couple of pics just from Shelby's team, which are age 12-15 girls, level 4 out of possible 5 in skill level.

Shelby is in the middle of the pic above in mid-air as she does a "pass" across the floor.

Yes, Cheer is a sport.

The athletic feats and competition of the teams leaves little doubt that they are far above things like skating and synchronized swimming.

But you are right, any subjective judge with no guidelines drives me crazy.

The mens Olympics skating is a prime example of the ridiculous preferences that some judges produces. They need specific guidelines that are detailed and reviewed by a computer for movements and specialization combined with height and speed ratios.
