As the new superteam continues to flounder, I look at coaches like Jackson and Rivers with more appreciation. Melding super ego's and designing a system to take advantage of all that talent must not be quite as easy as they have made it seem. Miami is playing at a level much below the sum of their parts and they don't appear to have the answer at hand. Remember Boston fired out 29-3 after picking up Garnett and Allen 3 years ago. Slick Pat may have no choice but to take the court and figure out how to make his investment pay off.

HS Playoff Update
Trinity pulled away late to remain on course, but will face undefeated and impressive Coppell in the regional final. I give Coppell a fair chance; they are rolling. The winner will likely face undefeated Stony Point in the semi's. Katy held off Galena Park North Shore 32-27 to move on.
In Div II, Denton Guyer faces Southlake in the regional final for a chance to play Longview or Mesquite in the semi's. The Longview game is scheduled to be played in Shreveport this week.
In 4A I'm hoping for Denton Ryan & Lake Travis to make the finals. Ryan will be favored to advance to state where they would face the winner of John Tyler & Wylie. Lake Travis is on the other side of the bracket but face a very tough regional final opponent in Cedar Park.
An interesting note is that after winning some questionable brackets in recent years, Trinity could very possibly end up facing 5 consecutive district champions with a combined 3 losses if they win state. If they pull it off, it would be their most impressive championship to date.
Final note; after my post regarding Lovejoy (3A) last week, they laid an egg and got pounded by Henderson. That's why they play 'em.

HS Football.
Friday night I went to Haughton and watched them lose to Franklinton. 49-41.. Game ended with an interception at the Demon's 5 yd line. Great game that was mired in turnovers.
The best team won the game in my opinion. Franklinton's only loss was to Abliene the first game of the year in Texas.
I sure was pulling for Haughton, it was just a weekend of loses for me.
The two QB's were great. Haughton's QB (MState) is still limping but has great touch and a cannon for an arm. I am curious to see if he is quick enough to play in Mullen's Spread offense. He seemed to be early in the year, but the knee injury slowed him.
Franklinton's QB has signed with LSU. He ran for about 200 yards in the 2nd half after being
down 35-21 in the 3rd. He also has 193 in passing. He is an athlete, not a passing QB.
Haughton has a WR that is really good, I would expect him to go to a big school next year.
Evangel and John Curtis are on a collision course.
=========================
I saw where Katy had trouble with Northshore this weekend.
They better make it to Dallgame tickets.
Southlake continues to roll, but Denton Guyer will take care of that this weekend.

Thanksgiving Weekend of Football. What I think I saw.
1. Dallas played a good game and lost.
Yes, Roy Uno Uno is the epitome of the goat, but Dallas played good.
It was not the most difficult loss for me to accept this year, but it still hurt to watch.
It is a fine line between a 4-12 team like Dallas and the SB champs in New Orleans.
If Brees had a stronger arm, I have a feeling the Saints would have scored 50. Payton has people open all over the field at 20 yards running full speed.
2. Texas - Texas A&M- Everyone is killing Brown for his 5-7 record, but what happened to Muschamps tough Defense. How does Gray go for 223 on 27 carries? I am befuddled.
3. Alabama - Auburn- This one I do not understand at all! 24-0 lead and Saban loses control. Julio Jones is going nuts and Alabama forgets this fact and goes inside the 10 yard line 3 times and scores 6 points. Wow! Newton really is a good.
4. LSU-Arkansas- I hate to even talk about this game.
I must admit, I was not surprised on one thing with the exception of the last play of the 1st half.
Those LSU DB's are always out of position on a team that can throw the ball down the field. Luckily nobody they played outside of the Tar Heels even tried consistently. Everyone knew that they had trouble with teams that could run and Petrino and Arkansas spread out those little LB's to open up the lanes.
Miles quote of the day to me was his comment that Ridley should have gotten the ball more in the 2nd half.
Excuse me- 6 carries 10 yards in the second half.
Maybe Les can use the Cotton Bowl as a recruiting ploy for the Texas Players and find a new Offensive Coordinator while sending his Defensive Coaches to watch TCU practice Defense against the spread.
LSU Coordinators are fine against old school teams like Bama, but the new wave of schemes seem to give them fits.
Yes, the QB's are terrible.
5. Florida - Florida State- How did Meyer lose this team so quickly. It was an embarrassment.
Will he fire both coordinators?
6. Oklahoma- Okie St- If you missed the last 3 minutes, you missed what is wrong in the Big 12.
How do you see 3 plays approaching 80 yard td's in 3 plays?
7. Houston Nutt- If this 2011 recruiting class revolts and decide to go somewhere else, he will be gone in 2 years. MState just looks better.
8. The SEC looked very weak this weekend. I realize everyone else is weak around the country, but the SEC is making too many mental errors.

The Story of Little Joshua Holt
I heard this story and thought it should be repeated. Goes something like this.......
By 1991 little Joshua Holt was already something of a star around the youth baseball leagues in Raleigh. At 10 he already had the look of a kid born to be a star. By 1995 he was travelling around the country and the coaches and other players had never seen anything like him. By 1999 the scouts who followed Joshua began using wild terms and descriptions for the big boy who won games with prodigous home runs, a 95 mph fastball, and diving catches all over the outfield. In some conversations, the name Mantle was even used. Then, number 1 draft pick, signing bonus, a limitless future............
But here the story turns. A car wreck, an injury, idle time in a pool hall, bad characters, drugs, tatoos. By 2003, little Joshua had gotten himself suspended from baseball. For the next 3 years he slept in crack houses with strangers, lost 60 pounds, forgot baseball, lost his family, and burned through several million dollars. Joshua Holt lost all touch with his former life and dreams of athletic stardom.
In 2006, Joshua showed up at his Grandmother's home and asked for shelter. Slowly she nursed him back to health and re-introduced him to his Christian upbringing. He asked baseball for another chance and even got a few AA at-bats later in that season. He gained weight, tried to repair relationships, and discover his skills that had eroded for 4 years.
In 2007, Joshua Holt was sent back through the draft and picked up by the Reds. At age 25, they threw him straight to the majors with no experience and almost 4 years without baseball. As he tried to find his way and fight off injuries, he managed to hit .290 with 19 homers. An amazing feat. But the Reds' players were jealous and soon Joshua was traded to the woebegone Rangers.
In spring training 2008, the Rangers witnessed the most talented ballplayer they had ever seen. Joshua Holt found peace and his swing, drove in 130 runs, made the cover of Sports Illustrated, and put on a show for the history books in the home run derby at legendary Yankee Stadium. At 27 he had arrived and big time. But in 2009, injuries again, a slip from the wagon, poor numbers. Would Joshua's demons prevail again?
Of course they did not. The story turned once again and Joshua Holt turned 2010 into a showcase for his amazing skills. A batting title, highlight reel catches and runs, tape measure homers, the World Series, and finally the culmination, the coveted MVP award. At 29 Joshua finally realized all the potential and dreams. Riches, accolades, family, friends, fame, he had it all.
Ridiculous you say? Fantasy you say? Stories like this don't happen in real life you say? But of course only real life could produce the story of Joshua Holt Hamilton, 2010 American League MVP.

Why They Play 'Em
Well, obviously Auburn couldn't possibly rally from down 24-0 to Saban, and Boise was obviously going to pass TCU for a BCS spot. Then, Auburn and Nevada did the impossible and this crazy year rolls on. Still on track for the worst defensive team to ever win a championship, and the Frogs headed for the Rose Bowl? Arkansas looking at Sugar? UConn in a BCS game? Florida and Texas combined 12-12?
How do Brown and Meyer explain these years? Both were rated in the top 10 and both are stocked with 4 and 5-star recruits. Neither can move the ball.
On the reverse, nice coaching jobs by Bob Stoops and Frank Beamer. Both could end up back in BCS games after being left for dead.
Who was that moron at safety for LSU who whiffed on the long ARK TD pass and then practically killed Claiborne to allow another long score? That scholarship needs to be pulled.

Cowboys
Saints win with Payton having players open all over the field. OUCH.
I hope Jerry is watching and recognizes the problem with the team is on Defense.
At least our draft stock should go up and the difference in 3-8 and a Super Bowl team is paper thin.

Watching Sean Payton's Offense.
It is amazing how many players are in single coverage running full speed in this offense.
If Bree's had a stronger arm to go with his accuracy, I am not sure they would ever punt.
He is absolutely my favorite coach in the NFL. I often joke about him making the average at best talents of Bree's into a Hall of Fame QB, but it maybe the most accurate thing I have ever said.
You may not like the Saints, but you have to respect the coaching.
I don't like the team nor the owner for good reasons, but this is about the coaching genius.
I was glad to see Aikman and Buck compare Payton to Walsh.
His team is not loaded with talent and they just roll up and down the field.
Mistakes are the only way to stop them unless you play a tricked up defense and surprise him.

Cowboys and Payton's Saints.
I expect a Long day in Arlington for Cowboy fans. The, "mindless lot," as S has deemed Saints fans should be foaming at the mouth in aticipation of this payback game.
Points of Concern for America's Team.
1. Saint Sean has a point to prove to brother Jerry. Classy he has not been since SB and I expect him to run up the score on Dallas. Dallas has to survive the initial onslaught from the Payton Offense.
2. Dallas Offensive Line is horrible against the blitz. Without Romo ducking the head hunters, Dallas will have trouble moving the ball.
3. Payton's offense is much too quick and spread out for Dallas CB's, S's and LB's to stay close to the players that play for this state funded team from New Orleans.
(I will refrain from talking about the lack of funding for the LA education system, while this state supports a multi-million dollar company in the NFL owned by a Texas Car Salesman. Sickening!)

Allen's Little Brother
The Lovejoy Leopards started varsity football in 2008. The district is made up of kids from far East Allen, Fairview, and Lucas. Up until the high school opened, all these kids attended Allen schools, and they get their youth coaching from the Allen Sports Association. In '08 they went 5-6. In their 2nd year 2009, they went 12-2 and lost in the state 3A semi-finals. This year, they headed to the playoffs at 9-1, ranked 5th in the state. This week they shocked proud Celina 17-0 and did it with a backup QB. With Argyle in 3A Div II, it looks as though Lovejoy has a very strong shot at winning state in their 3rd varsity year. The head coach graduated from Plano Sr. High in 1977 and coached at Allen for 13 years. I've heard that their enrollment will likely put them in 4A either in 2012 or certainly in 2014.

Allen/Trinity Post Mortem
Want to get my thoughts down after leaving Cowboys Stadium heart broken for a 2nd straight year. Trinity is ranked 1st in 5A in TX and 3rd in the nation on Rivals. It was horrendous luck for Allen to draw that district for 2nd round play. There was little difference in the teams, Trinity's size was the biggest.
After getting physically dominated in the 2nd quarter, I was worried about a rout. But Allen stiffened on D and won the 2nd half 21-13. The yardage edge was Trinity 450-380. Allen had more first downs, both teams punted 3 times.
Trinity had the best player on the field; QB/WR Brandon Carter, committed to Oklahoma. He made the biggest play of the night, after Allen closed to 24-21 he ran the kick back 65 yards to set up a TD. He also gained 16 on a 3rd down QB draw under 2 minutes which gave them a 1st down and sealed the game.
Trinity is absolutely huge on both lines. You won't believe it if you get to see them in the finals.
In a game which they lost by 2 points, Allen lost 3 fumbles. Fumbling was an issue all year and it came home to roost. A score on either of those 3 possessions............?
Trinity made 3 long field goals; a rarity in high school ball. One was 48 yards. That kicker can say honestly he probably won the game for them.
Trying to be objective, Allen is a great program. They dominate a great district, almost running the table for a 5th straight year. The coaching is sound; they are balanced and play hard. It takes a fantastic team/effort to beat them in any situation. Just a tough draw this year.

LSU Basketball.
It looks like another long year in the PMAC for the Tigers.
LSU is 2-2 with a respectable loss to Memphis and their trio of freshman. 70-61 tonight.
LSU actually led at the half.
They are playing too Freshman, one at point from Jackson, MS (Stringer 16.7ppt) and one from Bama at 6'6' shooter at 12.3 as the leading scorers. The leading rebounder is 6'7 jr from Monroe and a 6'9, but they average a combined 3.3 points a game. As you would expect the scorers are shooting less than 40% from the field and they haven't played any real athletes yet.
LSU lost to Nichols State at home, the 2 wins are over Northwestern by 9 and Tennessee Martin by 23.
When Johnson took over I felt like he was going to be able to get the La players and compete on the national stage. Well, so far the only ones he has gotten haven't developed and last year he missed the best players.
Hopefully, Derenbecker a freshman will develop, the kid can shoot.
I like the way Johnson has presented himself. I hope it is only a matter of time before the La Athletes stay home.

Dallas and Red Jesus
What do you say about this 2 game winning streak? Thank Goodness?
Expected? NO.. Signs of things to come? No.
Lucky? Hmmm. Is Garrett just smarter than the other coaches? I hope so.
Anyway, I honestly think they would have lost the game without that freaky punt return for a TD.
It was just weird to watch that sequence of a TD and then Detroit immediately fumbles after Lee punches the ball out.
Why isnt Lee playing more, he is the only person that seems to stop a screen pass and is involved in the play nearly every time he gets on the field?
How did McCann not make the roster from week 1 when everyone in the media said he was the best looking CB in Camp. Wade?
Why is Barber still getting more carries than Choice? Better yet, why is he getting the ball at all?
This running game is just awful. How did they beat the Giants?
With the remaining schedule having only one team with a losing record, Red will be able to prove that he is better than average as a coach. If Dallas finishes with 7 wins on the season, I would give him the job for a try out.

LSU - Ole Miss
10-1. Should I just leave that record up there and mention that they have beaten 5 ranked teams to do it?
The only loss was to Auburn which is likely the best team in America.
If, and it is a big IF, they beat Arkansas it will be 6 ranked teams and I only found Auburn to have 5 ranked teams they had beaten. The rest of the country is mired in the leagues with no depth. Wisconsin has 2 wins and Stanford 1 against ranked teams.
LSU looked average again against a 4-7 Ole Miss team that is a big time rival. It was so hard to watch, it was just painful to watch that delayed QB draw work time and time again.
I cannot say what I really think about LSU without a negative comment with a bad word.
The offense is just pathetic, the defense is fine as long as they know what is coming. Give them a bit of time to spread out and then a team will gash them.

Coach K, If you can't beat 'em.....
Coach K is slowly winning me over. His U.S. national team coaching combined with his radio show and guest spots on national shows are combining to make me like the guy. As you know I typically view Duke as my Notre Dame, NY Yankees, etc. But, I'm coming around because Coach K is showing more sense of humor, more personality, and I enjoy listening to his take on various subjects. I'm actually glad because I feel bad rooting against the rich, white guys all the time.

Volleyball, yes volleyball
Don't know about Sheveport/Bossier, but a rapidly burgeoning sport over here is girls volleyball. Shelby has several friends who play select volleyball and I've watched a few games. Typically at the high school level, Texas is considered the national leader in quality of teams/play. I only mention it because I find it quite enjoyable to watch in person. I'm impressed with the skill, the pace, and the overall athleticism and action of the games. It is by far the funnest girls sport to watch (except for competitive cheer of course).

Oden/Portland
Greg Oden to have microfracture surgery, out for the year. How can one team draft 3 "franchise" centers and see them all fall victim to chronic injuries? First Walton, then Bowie, now Oden. Not to mention they passed on Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant. Totally cursed. Unbelievable.

Comments.
I am so glad you mentioned this. I was driving this week thinking about the incredible situations that Portland has been through with injuries. (Absolutely the worse luck in sports!)
Walton, Bowie and Oden all had a histories of injuries prior to the NBA, but how do you pass on Walton and Oden, especially Walton? Bowie I could understand a pass with Jordan out there, but they did have his closest clone in Drexler. I did love Bowie at Kentucky, he could shoot better than any 7 footer we had ever seen.

BCS Bashing
I just read the story on the BCS in SI this week. I'm left confused. If the bowls are the ones rolling in money and the schools barely break even, why do the presidents let it continue? They are leaving massive money on the table by letting the bowls dictate the system. I understand that the coaches and AD's get bonuses for bowl appearances, but we've been led to believe that the presidents support the BCS. Why? This article makes it plain that the schools are being screwed while the bowls swim in money. Something doesn't add up. Why are the presidents maintaining the status quo? I need help on this.

Tuck on Dez Bryant
This was in the ESPN Blog and Morning News Blog.
New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck had some kind words for Dez Bryant: "He's just one of those players that every time he touches the ball, you have to have an account of where he is in every situation -- special teams, as a wide receiver, even when he's running a reverse. He's one those players that can beat you. They're going to do their best to get him the ball, but however they do it, he becomes the most dangerous person on the field when he has the football. But we knew that, we understand that he's a great talent."

Heisman Debacle
Top 3 Candidates
1. Cam Newton - Legal issues, scholastic issues, Money issues.
2. LaMichael James- Texarkana Tx- 2 arrest for violence in 2 years. Charged with strangulation this year.
3. Kellen Moore- He will not be the first QB with average talent to be in New York.
Pitiful group, especially after the last 3 years candidates.
We have returned to the Bush, Leinart, Young years.

Cam Newton Story
As a quick point on my caveat for Auburn and Newton getting in trouble with the NCAA.
==========
During my previous post, I commented that I did not think that Auburn would get hit unless the FBI went after church records. OOPS.. The FBI is going after a Booster that is up on federal bribery charges and has been named with Pay Dye in the scandal.
The entire story stinks and the fact that Newton's first incomplete pass of the throwing the stolen computer out the dorm window at Florida is about to rear its ugly head again. The stolen computer is now for sale on the internet. Funny how the story being told now leaves out his throwing the computer out the window and that it was given to him.
The smoke is getting thick enough to be a flame on the Plains.

My Shocker of the Year is Texas A&M
I cannot believe I am watching commercials advertising the Aggies vs Cornhuskers.
I thought A&M was a continuation of the previous years disasters. When Arkansas only beat them by 7 in Dallas, I thought Arkansas played a bad game after going up 21-7 in the 2nd quarter.
The Aggies game against the Sooner has me thinking maybe I was wrong about them.
J.
After more thought, I was right the Big 12 just sucks and so do the Aggies.

Baseball Awards
I was going thru the silly season enjoying the awards in Baseball, until the Gold Gloves were awarded.
Derek Jeter was GIVEN the award again.
I actually heard one person that voted for him say this.
"He may not have much range, but if he gets to it he doesn't mess up."
This is crazy- His range is the 2nd lowest among starting SS in MLB.

Tigger Puke
I admit I was caught off guard with the Tiger Woods Media sightings this week.
Nike's Marketing Firms appear to be in full force for the Golf Christmas Shopping Season
Reason:
Pre Emptive Strike.
Next week will be a year since his drug induced sleep session in the middle of the street.
Another one of the bad things in sports media is the acceptance of this crap.
I hope everyone realizes that changing your personality is not normally scripted for the national sales.
He is still the fake jerk he was 10 years ago. I never cared about the affairs.
This is about the meaness he displayed through out his career and to the media finally deciding to report on it.

Follow up on Rivers
I had to join in the praise of Phillip Rivers.
I have included a post from last December on a way to rank QB's.
Currently Rivers is at 8 yards per attempt.
His life time 96.9 QB rating is number 1 all time.
1 Philip Rivers 96.9
2 Steve Young 96.8
3 Tony Romo 95.5
4 Peyton Manning 95.1
5 Kurt Warner 93.7
6 Tom Brady 93.7
7 Joe Montana 92.3
8 Ben Roethlisberger 92.1
9 Drew Brees 91.9
10 Matt Schaub 91.4
Here is my post from Dec 17, 2009.
Rivers is top 5 now.

How Good is Phillip Rivers?
Phillip Rivers is easy to overlook. Brady and Manning dominate QB discussions and Drew Brees was the latest party crasher. But here is Rivers throwing to a laughable collection of back-up receivers, with no running game, and having a monster year. Rivers and Turner refuse to back down, continuing to throw down the field in a league of dinkers. Rivers' yards per attempt is at a career-high and stellar 8.9 while he remains at over 65% completion %. At the age of 28 he might be the player with the most value in the league.

NFL Top 100
Rick Gosselin's column last week referenced the NFL Network's listing of the top 100 all-time NFL players. He was part of this panel of coaches, players, and media who voted. He published his top 25 along with the network's placing of each player. Interesting........
Rank Player Position NFL Films
1 Jim Brown FB 2
2 Johnny Unitas QB 6
3 Lawrence Taylor OLB 3
4 Don Hutson WR 9
5 Barry Sanders HB 17
6 Jerry Rice WR 1
7 Reggie White DE 7
8 Joe Greene DT 13
9 Joe Montana QB 4
10 Dick Butkus MLB 10

21 Rod Woodson CB/S 41
22 Walter Payton HB 5
23 Peyton Manning QB 8
24 Joe Schmidt MLB 84
25 Sammy Baugh QB/P 14
I know JC will be thrilled with the network's listing of Jerry Rice as the all-time best player. Also jumping out to me is how high they had Manning and how low they had Barry Sanders. Walter Payton 5th but Barry Sanders 17th? Stuuuupid.

(JC Comment)
Jerry Rice as number 1 makes the entire list a waste of time.
A WR? Seriously? A WR in a scheme that is still successful today, that was designed by a genius coach to place a WR in isolation?
I may have to make a separate post to discuss this issue later.
A few rules to live by on greatest players ever.
1. What happened when they left the team? The best cannot be replaced in a manner even close. (TO put this to rest at SF)
2. How important is the position to the success of the Team? Is a WR in the Top 5? Hmmm- QB, RB, OT, CB, Center, DE. Rice was not exactly a blocker or game explosion like Randy Moss.3. Physically or Mentally were they a step above? Were they recognized the entire career as the best. Please, Sterling Sharpe was his equal with better skill sets until he got hurt. Super Bowl wins for Walsh changed the perception of Rice and Montana.
4. Were they as significantly more important than the coach or other players? Lets See. 1. Walsh 2. Montana. 3. Young. 4. Ronnie Lott . 5 Charles Haley.

The New Vick
I didn't take Michael Vick seriously as a QB before jail, and I certainly haven't done so since his return. But, in watching him tonight, it's a stunning development. Hitting 70%, Michael Vick? Is it possible that we're witnessing that so rare event where a pampered punk with all this ability has a life-altering event and actually changes? Did he always have the ability to do this, but because he relied on his athletic talent, didn't work hard, didn't study, we never saw it? Tonight he has 330 yards passing thru 3 quarters, 4 TD passes, 80 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD's, a completion % of 75%, and no turnovers. I keep thinking, why would Reid replace Kolb, the future, with Vick unless he has seen enough in games and practice to know that Vick now gets it, and combined with the ridiculous athletic ability is more than he ever bargained for? Whether it's real or not, for now it's impressive to watch.

Hurdle Gone
I'm sorry to see Clint Hurdle leave for the Pirates. He was a fantastic hire by the Rangers and I credit him to a large degree for the year Hamilton had. They developed a rapport based on Hurdle's own talent and his background with alchohol abuse. The swing change he advocated coincided with Hamilton's tear during the middle of the year. To me, Hurdle and Maddux put the Rangers among the very top when it came to coaching staffs.

College FB
This year just blows. I can see what's coming; LSU will get killed in Fayetteville, Boise will pass TCU, Auburn will lose to 'Bama and I will end up with zero interest in the Bowl season. The "power" teams are an endangered species this year and the BCS bowls are shaping up to be the absolute worst ever. I curse Gary Patterson for this weekend's lousy effort. The only thing I had left to salvage this season and they likely blew that too. I'm thinking of buying a bunch of new books and swearing off football for the year.

Cowboys
You never know when you watch the NFL what to expect, but the difference in the Cowboy's effort was obvious. Either the Giants mailed it in or the Offensive Line suddenly realized that Garrett was going to start benching people.
Dez Bryant is just a different type of physical wide receiver and suddenly the Cowboys remembered how to tackle.
2-7 and a rough schedule ahead could lead to a complete explosion, but what if they finish 7-9.
Jerry will think that Red Jesus is great and his drafts and work as a GM was undermined by Brother Wade.

Bad Week at Southern Miss.
First ESPN talks of the corruption and USM being used by an agent.
Then last night 3 Southern Miss players are shot in a bar fight after beating the ranked Central Florida team.
Its being related as gang related incident, but I have a feeling that the Eagles are already borderline
rouge university while trying to get to a level playing field with some of the conference USA teams.

LSU - ULM - aka Northeast.
51-0 may have been the final score, but what a terrible game to watch. If you didn't bother to check out the box score you missed a big red flag.
The starting QB's 8-22 for 95 yards.
How can I feel so sick after a 51-0 blow out? The offense is really pedestrian.

Pacquiao
At age 31, Manny Pacquiao is taking on yet another bigger fighter tonight at Cowboy Stadium. He is giving up likely 15 pounds to Margarito, 4 inches of height, 7 inches of reach. I fear this will catch up to him eventually. He has fought bigger fighters 5 straight times, but he is getting older and the speed advantage will fade with age. I wish he would have fought Mayweather before age erodes what could have been an all-time great fight.

Strap It On Time
Trinity (state #1) vs. Allen (9), 5pm Saturday Cowboy Stadium. The teams traded wins in 2008 with Allen revenging their only loss on the way to the state title. Allen won in the regular season last year but Trinity went on to the state title. This year Allen was 3rd in the area in total offense, Trinity 5th. Allen is more balanced as always as Trinity will rely on their power running game. However this year Trinity is 1st in the area only allowing 187 yards per game on defense. I anticipate Trinity being able to run on Allen this time around and Allen's only chance is to hit some big plays in the passing game.
Another huge area matchup this week is Celina vs. Lovejoy in 3A. Both Collin county schools, both are ranked in the top 5 in the state. Celina margin of victory 52-16, Lovejoy 47-11. Celina is undefeated, Lovejoy's only loss came to Argyle, also in the state top 5. This should be a state semi or finals match-up, but coming in Round 2.

Kevin Love 30 - 30 night. I would never have thought this.
Kevin Love grabbed a 31 rebounds and scored 31 points, the NBA’s first 30-30 game in 28 years.
The last person was Moses Malone at 38 points and 32 boards in 1982.
With Beasley and Love putting up big numbers, maybe Love's public disdain for his coach will lighten a bit.

Jerry on the GM Job
Found this article interesting.

“The owner is going to be here on a daily basis, doing the homework, doing the work,” he said. “Why add [a separate general manager] to the equation? That creates multiple issues. Harder to find where the problem is. At least I know when I look in the mirror where the problem is.”
Dan Reeves, who worked for Jerry Jones for about a day last year before they mutually decided to part ways, said the unique structure under Jones is a challenge for the Cowboys.
“There’s a lot of different ways to get things done and Jerry’s won a championship there doing it his way and, you know, it can be done,” Reeves said on SIRIUS NFL Radio. “But you’ve got to have people working together and everybody on the same page. And there’s got to be a chain of command.

Marcus Dupree on Espn 30 on 30
BAP sent me a text the other night and asked me if I knew who Marcus Dupree was or if I remembered him.
I actually laughed when I read the text and just shook my head.
I thought BAP was asking because they are both from the freak athletes home land of Mississippi.
Of course I knew Dupree's entire story and his birthplace.
He told me he was watching a story about him on ESPN.
S, similar to David Overstreet and Earl Campbell before him, we kept reading about him during his Senior year and then we finally saw him.
IT WAS DIFFERENT. What a waste of a truly different physical specimen. Herschel was special, Dupree was just smoother.
As a Senior, 6 3" 230lbs. 9.5second 100 yd times. Reports of 400lbs on Bench Press prior to the modern juices and supplements. Then verified by coaches in books that were being written.
The funny thing is that I didn't care about everything being so corrupt on the entire Dupree college experience. Stories were everywhere about the violations. Maybe I was jaded early growing up around here with the athletes that came out of here like Parish, Woolridge and Malone and the open knowledge of the things that happened on the I-20 corridor.
Back to Dupree, he was a freak. Greg Pruitt was always my favorite with Sims a close second. Well, the first time I watched that 230lb RB glide, I thought Pruitt was going to be replaced as my favorite.
Then we watched the down slide, overweight, rumors of cheating, school problems, leaving early and then the injury.
My lasting memory is Arizona State players just gasping at him and he would just stiff arm someone and take off. 245 yards in basically one half. This is after he gained 10lbs prior to the game on a holiday binge.
He played 34 of the 69 plays for Oklahoma because he was out of shape.
Barry Switzer who people sometimes forget maybe the best evaluator of talent we have ever seen on talent.
Said only Campbell and Dupree could have gone straight to NFL. Switzer said Dupree was the best player the day he walked on the campus. Switzer and Dupree's relationship was rocky at best, Switzer rode him out of college with his constant bickering and complaining about Dupree practice and work ethics.
On this show the coaches admitted they didn't know how to deal with Marcus and they played less talented players until they could not win anymore. Switzer was so good that Switzer went to the I formation. He started 7 games and had about 1400 yards.
Watch the show if you get a chance.

Airline is going to Lafayette and I was considering going to watch them play ST. Thomas Moore. aka a big Evangel. The beat Evangel early this year or I should say Evangel beat themselves.
This is the time of the year, that I really become agitated with the playoff draws.
First: 5A West Monroe is a 4 seed.
I am more curious to see what happens with Qauchita as the 9. Big time athletes but not on West Monroe's level.
Secondly: The best team in 4a is 6 seed. Franklinton who lost to Abeliene and received no power points in the game. They have already beaten 2nd best team Salmen a 2 seed. Thus, Haughton as the 3 seed draws the best team in the 3rd round.
Parkway has a better draw and a great scheme on offense in the other side of the bracket as a 9 seed.
2A has JC and Evangel on opposite sides. Calvary got a bit of bad seed but it worked out and they will get JC later instead of losing up here.
In 1A Haynesville went in at 8-2 as 8 seed. Logansport as 6 seed.
Only Evangel has a shot in my opinion.
Salmen in 4A who Benton plays beat John Curtis this year and lost only to rival Franklinton.

John Wall Triple Double
I was questioned on my comments from yesterday on Wall.
Well last night he went for 19points, 13rebounds, 13 assist, 6 steals and 1 turnover.
If he gets the TO's under control, he will be the best in the game.
Unlike Rondo, the Wizards don't have a lot of other players to take the attention away from him.
Going to be fun to see if he fulfills the potential.

Justin Tuck on Offensive Line of Cowboys
This was on a Mosely Blog when Tuck discussed the Cowboys.
=
"Just a little bit more confusion," said Tuck. "It seems like sometimes they're not on the same page. When they are I've seen them move great, but I don't know what the case is as far as communication is, but that's the only thing I've seen differently."

Rivals Radio High School Expert
S, I finally was able to here the gentleman on Rival's that downgraded Texas HS Football.
He freely admitted that he was a guy from the Midwestern way of thinking.
His name is Dallas Jackson and he is from Pennsylvania and lives in Nashville, TN, which explains the Rivals job.
He actually said the Ohio playoffs were better than the Florida Playoffs, ??????????
His positive toward to No. 1 ranked South Panola in Mississippi. He loves the depth.
He then took his shot at Texas for some Texas schools getting credit for the good schools and going 10-0 doesn't mean much. He said Texas teams are playing bad Texas schools, he is in a state of delusion on thinking that the average Texas team is bad.
I will give him credit for this, he has an opinion. He thinks that 9-10 Div 1 players is not as important as 30 good players. I think he forgets that the next year the Texas teams have another load of Div 1 players filling the spots. He does like Katy, I guess he should have read my post in week 2.
TX 5A Div 1- he also ranked behind Ohio Div 1...Please.
San Antonio has nothing.
Trinity-Katy here we come. Thank you for buying my ticket.
-Below is one of his post on Texas Teams- Logical.
Teams who play in weak divisions and get to 7-3 or 6-4 are still not as good as Colquitt. For an example you may be able to understand.Pearland is 10-0, Harlingen is 10-0 ... in Texas.Longview is 6-4. Which team is better?Record doesnt tell the whole story. Pearland and Harlingen are 10-0 with zero wins that mean anything. Longview has losses to Tyler, Allen, and Lufkin... and wins over Abilene, Mesquite Horn, and DeSoto... If Pearland or Harlingen would have played Longview's schedule what would its record be?THAT is the difference in strength of schedule compared to adding up wins and losses.
I would take Longview in that game every time, and when someone knocks Longview outof the playoffs it will mean more than the team that eliminates Pearland or Harlingen.

Auburn
After taking some heat for my post that are making fun of Run Cam Run.
I want to come clean, I think Auburn and MState did everything they were supposed to do with reporting problems to the NCAA.
Honestly, I see the NCAA going nowhere with the investigation.
Hopefully Auburn will roll through the rest of the season and add to the SEC NC list.
My caveat: if the FBI finds a reason to subpoena tax free financials from the church involved all bets are off.

Cam Tell ME It Ain't So!
Today it comes out that not only is the NCAA looking into Cam and recruiting process for alledged indescretions. (The NCAA supposedly has witnesses saying they have heard Cam and his dad discuss it. )
Now--- The FBI has taken an interest in meeting with the source or the extortion.
I hope this it is not true, but when a newly renovated church is involved with their tax exemptions and the father is a minister, I really take a wary approach.
Suddenly the Daddy sharing his personal financials is not such a clearing document.

Eye Opening on Jerry
Part of article on Jerry Jones from LEBRETON
----------------------------------------------
Twenty-one years. Seven head coaches. One playoff victory in the past 13 seasons.
One owner and general manager.
There are 32 teams in the National Football League, and 31 of them would die laughing if you told them they had to hire Jerry Jones as general manager.

NBA
A couple of quick blogs comments on what I have started to feel.
1. Miami Heat- Until D Wade learns to play the position Lebron has to play they will struggle.
Wade is probably the 3rd most important player on the team and doesn't get it. Lebron is giving up a whole lot of his game to support Wade and his shoot first mentality. Bosh and James have accepted the changes and it supports my original comments on the trio. Wade is shooting too much.
Why in the heck is Lebron playing at the point and not around the bucket and slashing.
His shooting percentage, which has always been higher than Wade, and his rebounding is a tough thing to watch as they placate to Wade. Sickening waste of Talent. If Wade gets hurt the Heat will win just about every game.
2. Wall - Wow. He is a good inch and half taller than some players listed at 6foot4.
19pt 9.6 assist.
Quick and explosive, his defense is even a positive. The Wizards need to ship Capt Zero Bullets to someone and start over before he ruins Mr. Wall with selfishness.
3. Hornets and Mavs- Playing Defense -- I am confused.
Dirk is still a machine on offense and better than advertised on rebounds.
4. Durant Shooting 39%, what? Is he Kobe now? sorry I know better.
5. Golden State- If you get a chance watch it.
Ellis, Curry and Wright average 65 pts a game and shoot well. Ellis and Curry are over 50%
Ellis out of Jackson, Ms is 25 and a scoring machine.
6. Blake Griffin is considered a Rookie this year.. 17pt 10 reb and still has the explosion.
7. Utah made the right decision on Milsap instead of Boozer...24 and 11. La Tech is being represented well.

Jason Garrett
After a day or two of thinking about the change in Dallas.
Two things that were bugging me about the change.
1. The obvious- His scheme is great with an open field but struggles in the red zone.
He and Norv Turner are still living with a memory of Aikman's incredible accuracy and strength and forget Emmitt was truly special in the red zone.
I cannot even quantify my frustration with the offensive line play during the last 3 years.
I have to place blame at his feet for this, the o line coach and Garrett have been pitiful on protecting Romo and establishing a running game.
I am curious if Barber starting along with Roy Williams and Leonard Davis has anything to do with Wade and Jerry's delusions on what makes a player good.
2. Personality- Garrett is almost sullen on the sidelines and during interviews.
Even with Romo's boyish charm, who by the way is one of only 3 people that I have seen make Red Jesus smile during a game, sans a blow out. The grouping of Garrett as being soft with Jerry and Wade always bugged me.
Nothing in Garrett's personality traits suggest that he is anything like Wade or Jerry.
He is an over achiever in scholastics and athletics. The media people that I respect most like his resolve, even while they question some of his play calling. They all think that when he gets his chance the things that hamper Dallas like sloppy play and mistakes will stop.
Could Garrett truly be the second coming? Doubtful. But Smart people usually win in the end.
Will Jerry let Garrett clean house? Doubtful. The GM made the decisions to bring the players in.
Will Jerry trust Garrett more than his own gut feelings? Doubtful, but Jerry truly likes Red and has proven it or maybe it is Stephen that is forcing the issue with Garrett.
During the next few months, I will enjoy watching the behaviour of the players and who actually gets on the field.
Today, Roy Williams questioned the media on why he wasn't as involved in the offense. ?????
If I were Garrett, Roy UNO UNO would be an example of what I expect. He would be on the pine Sunday along any Defensive player that quits in a game. Or has missed his primary assignment on the screen pass for the last 3 games.

The Salesman
Like most people I have watched this wreck with fascination because it's just so unusual and so big. But, today I'm just mad. At the root of this is the 3 super bowls. Because the 3 wins in 4 years were so historic, so awesome for fans, it's been impossible to see clearly when it comes to this franchise. For the past 15 years Jerry has used his considerable sales skills to hide the incompetance at the core of the organization.
He sold us on parting ways with Jimmy, he sold us on the star power while the roster was really poor, he sold us on Barry, on Chan, on Dave, on the disastrous drafts and personnel decisions. He spins, he dances, he keeps smiling and telling us things are great in Dallas. All the while he has driven the football operations into the ground, while watching his net worth skyrocket. Truly, one of the great salesmen of all time.
For 15 years he has run a football team and produced 1 playoff win. He is the worst GM in the league and there is no end in sight. He will never recognize his own shortcomings. We are stuck with him until literally death (his or ours). No amount of columns and talk shows will jolt him out of his fantasy that he can run a football operation. No one could have possibly seen it when he bought the team and during those super bowl years, but his arrival was actually the death blow to one of the great franchises in sports.

Wade
I think everyone knows I would have fired Wade after the Philly disaster 3 years ago.
I am sick about the entire episode and ready for about a 1/5 of the players to follow Wade out the door.
Jerry Jones is going to get crucified and it should be worse. If someone can defend his job as a GM since Big Bill left. Feel Free.
It is a mess and the team is 1-7.

TX HS Football Recap
The way things played out in week 10 will see Division I 5A loaded to the hilt with the top 6 ranked teams in the state. Trinity, Katy, Stony Point, Woodlands, and Coppell all enter the playoffs in Div I undefeated. Trinity and Katy are on opposite sides of the draw, so we could get that matchup on Dec 18.
Allen rebounded from seeing their streak ended by scoring the first 4 touchdowns against 2nd place Flower Mound. Allen gained 758 yards and led 42-14 at the half. Unfortunately they will get Trinity in round 2. Allen got big games from their 2 offensive studs; Jonathon Lee, committed to Baylor, had 3 touchdown catches, and Jonathon Williams, a junior, ran for 298 and finished the year with 1833 yards and a hefty 8.2 avg/carry.
Division II 5A is more wide open. Several good teams will contend that are not so highly ranked but have huge potential. Guyer, Longview, the 2 Abilene schools, Lufkin, and Southlake are some teams in Div II to watch.
The other game we'll get to see on Dec 18 is 4A Div I. The studs in that bracket are Denton Ryan, Waco Midway, Smithson Valley, and Lake Travis.
I've enjoyed seeing Southlake falter, going 7-3 this year. But a story this week said that between their 2 8th grade teams, their 2 freshmen teams, and their 2 JV teams this year, they had only 2 losses combined. Sounds like they will be back.

Zenyatta
Hardly anything gives me the thrill of watching a great horse race and yesterday was no different. My heart was pounding out of my chest. But, once again my hopes are crushed. Like watching Smarty Jones run down at Belmont in 2005, Zenyatta could not deliver with the world pulling for her. Her style of trailing the field could not have been worse against 11 world-class males whom she would have to get around in the home stretch. She passed 10 of them and would probably have gotten Blame also with another furlong. I doubt any male could beat her in a match race. She certainly made history and brought some needed attention to a sufferring sport.

S
TCU / BCS
It would be hard to find a more impressive all-around performance by any team this year. I said that Patterson had a huge opportunity here, and he brought them into it primed and sharp. Utah did not cross mid-field until they were down 40-0. They passed 35 times for a paltry 148 yards. The Frogs have not allowed 200 yards of total offense yet in a game this year; they have allowed 23 total points in conference play and just 85 total points in 10 games. Dalton goes 21 for 26 in his biggest regular season game, 355 yards, 3 TD's, no turnovers.
How impressed will the voters be? Auburn will have to beat 'Bama and probably FL to claim their spot in the big game. If they fail, would the Frogs make it? I'm not sure if I think it's right, but it would be great fun and good for college football. If Boise jumps over them, I will be crushed. TCU's avg margin of victory is 41-8 and if they go 12-0 they will have beaten 5 likely bowl teams. I'm going to get my hopes up and root against an SEC team making it for the first time ever.

The Weekend in College Basketball
S, you were right the world is upside down.
Texas is pathetic. Kansas State was up 39-0 in the 4th.
Oklahoma losing at Texas A&M is inexcusable.
Bama is not blocking well.
Florida is whining.
Michigan gives up 65 points and wins.
On the bright side, I recorded the TCU game and tried to figure out that Defense.
It is amazing to watch them get pressure with 4 people running stunts on most plays.
They are better than Boise St.
Stanford is not getting enough love.
I would put them ahead of Nebraska and even with LSU. They lose to Oregon and dropped like a rock.

LSU - Bama
Ok, I am excited, shocked and disappointed about the game.
Excited- What a thrill to see LSU's speed being utilized in the 2nd half.
Shocked - Alabama offensive line could not move LSU out of the center of the field. All year, I have wondered why Alabama was struggling, now I know. They have lost the ability to dominate the interior and it is killing Saban's concept of running an offense.
Disappointed- Why in the world have we not seen LSU offense open up for the last 3 years. The speed jumps off the field.
With Miles record, we will be forced to watch Miles screw up things for two or three more years.
I can only hope that Crowton is gone and they replace him with an Offensive Coordinator that has so much clout that Miles will stay out of his way.

Les and Crowton
While talking about the LSU upcoming doom this weekend to Coach Saban the LSU offense or lack there of was discussed.
Gary Crowton was considered an innovative mind in his past, so why is LSU's offense so bad?
We hear rumblings around Baton Rouge that Les has been meddling since his arrival and thats why Jimbo was happy to run to Florida State. Then you hear that Crowton is completely responsible for all of these inane things that happen.
Consider this:
Miles fired the Co-Defensive Coordinators after one year. This shows he will fire someone quickly if they fail.
It sure leads credence to the fact that Les knows he is part of the offense design and coaching.
Maybe he knows if he fires Crowton, Crowton will come out and tell the nation what Miles really does as a coach.

Sparky Anderson
One of my three favorite baseball managers of all time died today.
Sparky may not have been as best manager we ever saw, but I loved the guy.
He was great radio and television, his animation was on his face and in his voice. Sparky was a class act with a fire to win.
He was so over the top at times that I hung on his ever word as a kid. His Reds teams are still considered one of the greatest ever, yet that lost a series they should have won and nobody talks about it. That Detroit team was just fantastic and Sparky knew how to ride his Ace the title.
I read one writer comment on Sparky's tendency to use hyperbole.. True True... I loved the guy.

Cam Newton is in TROUBLE
Brian, a Mississippi State grad, told me Tuesday Auburn was going on probation over Newton.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5765214
Well he had some insider info.
Espn posted this story. Evidently our Superstar QB has a father with a hand out.
=

During the height of star quarterback Cam Newton's recruitment out of junior college last year, a man who said he represented Newton allegedly was soliciting a six-figure payment to secure his signature on a national letter of intent, ESPN.com has learned.
Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond told ESPN.com a teammate of Bond's at Mississippi State in the early 1980s contacted him soon after Newton's official visit to Mississippi State during the Ole Miss game in December, and said he was representing Newton.
"He said it would take some cash to get Cam," Bond said. "I called our athletic director, Greg Byrne, and he took it from there. That was pretty much it."
Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Mississippi State called the SEC office with Bond's information shortly after he brought it to the attention of the school.
Bond said the former teammate told him other schools had already offered $200,000, but since Newton really liked Mississippi State and had a relationship with head coach Dan Mullen dating to when both were at Florida, Mississippi State could get him for $180,000.
I guess the cost of living is a little lower in Starkvegas.

Euless Game
I have spent the past 24 hours trying to figure out why the guy went on Rivals Radio and downgraded Texas High School Football.
So, tonight I am wathching this beef at Euless. 265lb average for Euless.
McArthur is where some families members played and this is a scary game for the Cardinals.
I do love high school football.

Jonathan's Rant on Dallas and Saints.
This was prior to last Sunday. (I have been traveling too much and forgot to forward the rant.)
------------------------------------------------------------------
(Saints) 1st What happened to the Offensive line. Specifically the guards. The last
part of 2009 Carl Nicks was playing like a beast now he plays closer to 245
than 345- he is not pushing people around and getting beat. Jahri Evans got
paid during the offseason and is currently living up to his 4 th rd draft
choice and not the top guard in the NFL like he was last year. Tackles are
consistent from last year but Bushrod is limited at LT. However that has not
changed from last year. The interior line is not the same.
(2nd) WR are not performing. Henderson is dropping as many as he catches
right now. Colston is being doubled and Meachem is not the same. Lance Moore
is the most reliable target at this time. All have poor separation right
now.
(3rd) Defense- Limited Takeaways and no pressure-- bad combination. Sharper
may help coming back
(4th)- No luck this year- just watch the Cards and Browns- all luck went to
them. NO excuse they lost to 2 rookie QBs.
(Final) Brees is struggling. Partially because of the line play but he is
making more mistakes on throws than last year.
Saints will be ok- may end up in the playoffs but no repeat.
(Cowboys)
Painful. I kept waiting on the talent of the team to take over and gave up
against the Vikings. Complete overhaul of the coaching staff is needed. JJ
will get it done in the off season. Funny- a few yrs ago everyone loved Wade
being laid back and not demanding like the Tuna. Now local press is
clamoring for a more demanding coaching approach.
JJ- How can the O line and Safety have limited talent and no depth? They are
cheap in the draft
(Offense) Red- is in over his head. The talent is there but the fact they can
not score TDs (prior to Romo injury) is a product of the OC not developing
from year to year
(Defense) - No discipline- Rein in some of the players . ILBs- Is Brooking
showing his age? Secondary
JJ should fire himself but will not. He will make a coaching splash in the
offseason- It will be closer to Tuna than Switzer or Campo.
Sad to see the change of the Cowboys- Tom Landry to Wade Phillips. One
person to thank for the decline. No other GM would withstand hiring the
likes of Barry, Chan, Campo, and Wade. It sounds like Matt Millen was
working for the boys behind the scenes. He had a similar run as GM.
Off the Rant
No fan of the Redskins but I like the throwback uniforms

Tulsa Head Coach Todd Graham on Rivals.
Monday, I was able to listen to Todd Graham talking about the win in Notre Dame.
He was discussing his staff and mentioned his time at Allen High School and a coach he took with and trusted completely. It was a good interview.
I know what you thought of this Mesquite born gentelman.
I may wear my Allen jacket this weekend to see Haughton vs Parkway in the battle of the unbeatens.

A comment from a Giants Fan
We all have been giving the Giants their due on the World Series win.
S, I do agree with you on the fact that SF dominated the series in such a manner that it is was not as devastating for Ranger's fans as it could have been.
====
S, I thought you would really get a kick out of this note. Especially since we grew up talking about the players coming through Shreveport. I bet you are in sparse company considering you saw the first game at Fairgrounds Field for the Captains and the first game in Frisco when they became the Roughriders. A friend of mine sent me this prior to conclusion of the series and it reminded me of growing up listening to my dad, grandfather and uncle discuss the Giants, Cardinals and Yankees in the 50's.
==
Brandon's note:
Just like every 'Lil boy growing up in the late 80's rooting for the Shreveport Captains, I am and always will be a Giants fan - I mean Will "the thrill" Clark is my all-time favorite player! I absolutely love our team and pitching staff. I can not wait to win this World Series.

Head Shots
All right, I read all the stuff in SI this week about brain trauma. I let it sit for a couple of days to sink in. You are lucky that Josh isn't interested in football. I wonder what you would do if he played and you started getting all this information about reduced brain activity and other side effects. I can tell you that if I had a little boy, no way I would let him even get started with football. If I had a kid who had played for a while, I'm not sure what I would do. The bottom line is that kids shouldn't play tackle football. No one should play it until they can make a decision for themselves about the long term consequences. I can only imagine the fear and worry that parents and spouses are going through if they've read any of that stuff. I thank God that you and I don't have that to worry about.

TX HS Football Slammed on Rivals
Bill King had a guy on today, didn't catch the name, who railed against TX high school football, saying they are overrated and outside of Dallas and Houston play a "sorry" brand of football! And he was apparently an expert because he was on for some time. He rated the TX talent base 4th behind FL, CA, and OH. Said outside of a "couple" of great 5A programs, there is little to crow about, and that TX 4A offerred "nothing"! I was just sitting here stunned. I still don't know what to say. I can understand the ranking behind FL and CA, but the rest of it was just slam city and I can't figure where he was coming from.
He also took a call from LA asking about West Monroe. He said he has them in his top 10, but they are offensively challenged and play such a soft schedule that he has a hard time judging them. He was a pistol. I wish I had caught the name.

All-Americans?
This from the newspaper today; the AP pre-season all-american team. I posted on this subject once before, but this has to be the most pathetic excuse for an all-american team ever seen. They actually went so far as to vote a freshman to the team who has never suited up!
Kyle Singler - Duke
Jacob Pullen - KS St
Jimmer Fredette - BYU (?)
JuJuan Johnson - Purdue
Harrison Barnes - NC (frosh)
Pitiful!

TCU - Utah
This is shaping up to be an absolutely huge game. With the mediocrity of this season rolling on, an opportunity is presented to TCU that could result in the biggest payoff for the school in 70 years. What if the Frogs were to win convincingly against a top 10 opponent on the road so late in the season? Would they be in position for a championship berth if Auburn were to lose in Tuscaloosa? Or would 'Bama get the berth if they go on to win the SEC?
This is a big statement on Patterson. They played tight against Boise last year on the big stage. Can he bring them to Utah with so much on the line and get them to play their best? If they were to do so, and if Auburn loses, the debate between TCU, Boise, and 'Bama to gain that spot would be epic. Of course I'm assuming that Oregon rolls on against that pitiful schedule.

Allen Streak Ended
I wasn't wrong after all. I was nervous about the close scores and the poor effort in the game I witnessed. Hebron shockingly came to Allen this week and laid waste to the 34-game district winning streak by gaining 642 yards and shutting Allen out in the 4th quarter to win 35-28. The turnover bug bit again as it has much of the year as Allen's final 2 drives ended in a fumble and an interception.
This team with 18 new starters from last year maybe needed a reality check. Next up is Flower Mound with the area's top ranked offense, putting up video game numbers. So, little time to fix whatever went wrong this past week. Bad time to get exposed with the playoffs around the corner.

Scars
If you're a big sports fan, you carry some deep scars. This World Series will leave one. It's hard to accept outplaying the Yankees in every phase, only to have the same thing done to us by a supposedly weaker team. The Rangers showed surprisingly little fight, like I was right about them taking the punch in Game 1 and never recovering from seeing Lee pummelled. Shocking to see them so inept at the plate; they worked Hamilton over so bad he might be scarred for life. He hit one ball hard in 5 games. Lee shockingly threw the fattest of pitches in the biggest moment of the season. Probably the last inning he'll throw as a Ranger.
But, despite getting spanked it was a watershed year for the franchise, and they have much to look forward to. There is more pitching depth to come and ownership that seems committed to making them a top flight organization. It would be great to see baseball taken seriously in DFW.
