NFL Coach Rankings by Fraley

My favorite columnist, Fraley published an NFL coach ranking today based on points accumulated by obtaining winning seasons, playoff appearances, advancing in the playoffs, winning championships, and turning around bad franchises.  He started in 1989 when JJ took over in Dallas and ranked all coaches hired since then.  Below are some of the scores, starting with the leader, Andy Reid......

Andy Reid - 116.5 pts
Belichick - 116
Holmgren - 110.5
Cowher - 92
J.J. - 84
Seifert - 82
Shanahan - 76
Dungy - 55

Fisher - only 41 pts
Coughlin - 35
Sean Payton - already 36 pts
John Fox - 48
Dennis Green - just 37
Spurrier/Saban/Petrino combined - 1 pt

This grade scale was used to award points to NFL head coach hires since 1989: (1) winning season; (2) playoff spot; (3) win in wild-card round; (5) win in divisional round; (7) Win in conference title game; (10) win in Super Bowl. Score multiplied by 1.5 if head coach took over a club that had had two consecutive losing seasons.

I am so glad you posted this article. It was a great article and confirmed many thoughts about Reid.  If you add the years to the quotient you get a different hierarchy.
I am finishing the system with some of the greats with a per year number.                                                                                                                                           j
