Maybe, Now we know why Mike Leach isn't a hot commodity.

Texas Tech was placed on two years of probation  for recruiting violations, saying 16 coaches or assistants sent nearly 1,000 impermissible text messages to football and a couple of minor sports.

Leach- "Our staff didn't understand that they weren't allowed to text,"
His excuse...
"Somebody would say 'Merry Christmas' and I would say 'Merry Christmas' back or I would get, 'Nice win against A&M' and I would reply 'Thanks," he said.

I really like the guy as a coach, but time to Man Up.

You took the bait. There were 16 coaches that sent almost 1,000 messages. The most were sent by golf and softball coaches. That's Leach's fault? How can you justify laying this at his feet? The school's compliance office and athletic administration are to blame.

The AP just needed a headline.

Feel free to read the actual report: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/0825d580455583a3a471e790a48a4ecb/20110107+Texas+Tech+Public+Inf+Rpt.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CACHEID=0825d580455583a3a471e790a48a4ecb

Andy, we may have a little confusion about the subject of the post. I agree with you completely on the report. I had discussed and laughed about the other coaches and non revenuing producing sports that were a large part of this investigation. I knew that it was not all Leach and the football team. (Thus, no mention of a Bruce Pearl in Lubbock.)

We had been discussing why he was still not a multi-million dollar head coach at a major universty. The NCAA probe would have given University officials a reason to overlook his accomplishments. How else can we explain the less qualified candidates getting some of these high profile jobs?

I had discussed and laughed about the other coaches and smaller sports that were part of the investigation. We knew that it was not all Leach involved (No Mention of a Bruce Pearl in Lubbock.)

It is utterly ridiculous on some of the rules with texting within the NCAA. That is why, I listed the Merry Christmas comment.

But, lets not forgive Leach, the head coach, he should have known better and given no excuses. I really find it hard to believe that he didn't know the NCAA rules.
Especially considering that the Big 12 and NCAA hammered ex-Oklahoma coach Sampson a few years back.

I just hope there is nothing else out there that the NCAA is investigating at Texas Tech. I want to see Leach back on the sideline.

Heck, I wish he was in Baton Rouge and Miles was in Ann Arbor.

Andy, I added Maybe to correct my misleading header.
