Rueben Randle.

This is a good article on the Bastrop grad.
He leads the SEC in yardage and is proof positive that LSU has a new offense.

http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/31510/randle-quietly-taking-lead-at-wide-receiver

While I am on LSU subject line.
The 15 finalist for the Jim Thorpe award came out with 7 SEC DB's on the list as the nations best.

The story is the omission of LSU's super db, Tyrann Mathieu.

Explain that one?  I guess the voters for this award have an issue with suspensions.

Cowboys

Watching the game last night didn't bother me as much as I expected.
I guess after seeing the losses to the Jets, Lions and Pats, I was expecting a collapse.  Especially at night with this team of players that have never been too good during high duress situations.

They looked horrible!
But, it is similar the first Steelers game against the Ravens, and Falcons against Bears. Blow-outs.
Things bad happen with teams in transition from an old team to a young team.
So, I do not see this a dagger to the heart.

My biggest surprises last night.
1. Romo is still hurting badly and Garrett is doing a poor job protecting him.
(I was shocked he was still taking pain injections last week. )
2. Rob Ryan could not adjust to Andy Reid.  He can take the blame for the loss, but he has something more to learn.
Adjustments.   Pitiful!

The good things are obvious, Ware is great, Murray maybe the real deal and Romo will get healthy.
J.

More Embarrasment

I'm pretty demoralized by the Cowboys' showing last night.  I understand the Eagles coming off a bye, but to roll over and not be competitive on national TV again is hard to stomach.  The honeymoom for Garrett is officially over.  There are so many glaring holes that need attention.  Attitude carries only so far.  I'm finding it very hard to maintain interest in the Cowboys with the incredibly poor job being done by Jerry and the front office and the big-name overrated players.  I'm behind Garrett and Romo, don't get me wrong, but as the years go by and Dallas is barely in contention, my interest level is slipping away.

Rangers

I really cannot make many comments about the Series.
It is ashamed the best 3 power hitters were all hurt for game 7.
More so, for Hamilton to be hurt the entire playoffs and series.
The biggest impact was once again the manager - pitching coach combo in St. Louis.
I found this quote after the game.
.
“I called [Duncan] in the morning,” La Russa said, “and I said ‘how about the alternatives?’”
“He says ‘are you kidding?’ It’s Chris Carpenter,” and he hung up.

The Rangers have half of the formula.

La Russa will go to the Hall of Fame with a proven formula to his success.
1.  Dave Duncan
2. A juiced up power hitter.

j.

Cowboys - Eagles

If watching the Rangers go down wasn't hard enough, now we get Andy Reid after a bye week.
Big Andy is 12-0 after a bye week.

Reid has really had problems since the death of D Coordinator Jimmy Johnson, but a bye is a bye.

J.

Interesting Article on Chris Johnson's Decline.

He shows the decline form Johnson since Vince Young's departure.
The theory is that the defense had to play a LB as a spy on Young as a runner.
I always leaned toward Jeff Fisher and the blocking schemes that were critizied by D Lineman.

In 19 games with Vince Young at QB: 398 ATT, 2072 YDS, 18 TDs, 122 YPG, 5.2 YPC
In 25 games with Kerry Collins at QB: 433 ATT, 1930 YDS, 14 TDs, 74 YPG, 4.4 YPC
In 6 games with Matt Hasselbeck at QB: 93 ATT, 268 YDS, 1 TD, 44 YPG, 2.8 YPC

It seems that the College schemes and thinking are finally making it into mainstream media.
Todd McShay recently said that the NFL was visiting Colleges to better understand the schemes.

Switzer Still Has Texas in his Sights.

Found this on Larry Brown Sports.
Here is the blurb.

At a luncheon on Wednesday, Pickens described an email he received from Switzer after Oklahoma had beaten Texas 55-17 earlier this month.
Pickens says Switzer wrote to him suggesting that Oklahoma State shouldn’t “beat them as bad as the Sooners did because we want to keep Mack Brown as coach — we want somebody that both of us can beat.”
Switzer was sitting in the audience and encouraged Pickens to share the story.
-Yeah, laugh all you want guys, but let’s look at the history. Mack Brown has gone 6-8 against Oklahoma. He’s gone 12-2 against Oklahoma State with his only losses to them coming the last two seasons. Oklahoma may have the edge on Texas, but I don’t think laughing about wanting to keep Mack Brown around is the best idea.

WVA to Big 12 - Missou to SEC

I see that it is official on some media outlets today.
What a strange situation for College Football and I really hate all of the changes.

Two comments:
1. Why are SEC fans ripping Missou? They bring the media market and the bigger money to maintain the continued growth of the powers in the SEC.   Does the SEC really need anymore powerful teams?  No.
Heck they beat each other to death as it is.
Screaming for WVA is crazy, they are Ole Miss playing a weaker schedule while recruiting a certain type of player that would keep SEC coaches in hot water. They add nothing more than a reputation, that would quickly disappear in football in SEC. Do the eastern schools in SEC really want to see the crowd of 46,000 in Morgantown when middle of the road schools show up.  They avg 56000. Kentucky is at 69000.
Ole Miss is 55000 and I have already shown the NFL players at WVA is less than Ole Miss.

2. Morgantown is a long haul for the Big 12 in a 10 team conference.
They would be better off with 12 and two separate leagues.
Kansas, KState, OK, OKST, Lousiville and WVA.
TX, TCU, TTech, Baylor, SMU and ? BYU.
I am happy for WVA, they have some great traditions.

Game 7

After about 10 people asking my thoughts on tonight's game, I finally agreed to post something.
Last nights game was kismet, or as S said last night " they are cursed. "
Deep down, I am becoming a little more optimistic.

Breakdown:
Pitching-Carpenter vs Harrison
1. Carpenter has to be pushed past 20 pitches in 2nd inning.  His history is early departure because of control or beware he will dominate.  The Rangers should have a game plan to be swinging at first pitch if it is in good zone, otherwise they should work him deep into the count during first 3 innings.  I realize this goes against the Rangers mindset of being the bully on the block, but I find it paramount.  We need 100 pitches by 6th to get into the pen.

Carpenter at 36 years of age is the kind of pitcher who makes his legacy in the World Series.
I do find it interesting that La Russa seemed to ponder if Carpenter should start in some of his conversations.
With that I would expect him to have a quick trigger finger.  I know he has pitched well so far, but that injury still lingers, his record on short rest is not positive and nerves make people look for excuses when things get tough.   Facing the Rangers for third time in 10 days is rough for anyone.

2. Harrison- Who knows!   He has the stuff and could be special.
Harrison got off his game and pouted after a bad call by the ump in his last appearance. Hopefully he learned something from his last appearance and goes Jack Morris on them.  I like Harrison with the bigger NL Strike Zone to keep it close.

Bullpen- They both stink.  Tonight we may find out if Feliz is actually a closer or not.  Watching his face last night was interesting.  The nerves really got to him and made him aim.   If he is what I think he is, tonight he will push 100 on the radar and damn the torpedoes.
The cards pen man for man seem to have higher velocity with the movement.

Edge - Cards if they don't get Carpenter by third inning.

Defense-  I really thought the Rangers had a big advantage until last night.   I cannot even comment on Young last night.  Cruz misplayed that ball and know was reportedly hurt prior.  Elvis just choked.
Still they are stonger than the Cards.
Edge Rangers

Hitting- Cardinal hitters from the 5-8 spot won the game last night.  I do not expect a repeat tonight.
Pujols is the best, Berkman is just money.  Freese is the man.
With Hamilton playing at half speed, sans messages from the man upstairs, the Rangers live and die with Beltre, Young, Kinsler and Nap.  Cruz is just a Dave Kingman clone right now.
Nap's ankle cannot be good.

Even.

Coaching- Where do I start.  LaRussa has the pedigree, Washington drives me crazy with his over managing.
But, I have a feeling LaRussa is going to make a mistake with Carpenter tonight.  Call him Capt Hook.
Edge - La Russa.

Umpire- The Rangers are 1-5 or something like that with this ump.  Odds: they are due a win.

Intangibles- Unlike most, I think that the Cardinal have a problem as big as Texas.
The bullpen for Cards flew under radar for a poor outing.  They are looking to fail.
The Rangers faced the adversity last night and if there is one thing special about this team it is the togetherness.  Washington seems to be the maniacal manager that they love because of his idiosyncrasies.
Michael Young has had problems with Carpenter, but I have a feeling with his swing returning.  Young is likely lacking sleep today and blaming himself for the loss.   Young will come up big in some way.

Kismet plays the deciding factor in my prediction.  Teams that play with this much laughter deserve to win.
It is a replay of the Pirates - "We Are Family"

Prediction- Rangers join Mavericks in an unlikely World Championship parade.

St Louis Baseball History is Special.

Growing up with a family full of Cardinal fans, I always respected the history.
I thought a little reminder was needed to how special this organization has been.
How many times did we hear stories about listening to the Cards on the Radio?  (Great Memories that created my love for sports. Of course I was a Dodger fan and S a devout Reds Fan.)

10 World Series Titles - 2nd to Yankees 27
18 Pennants -2nd to Yankees  40.  Tied with Dodgers and Giants.

These are the 42 players that played or coached at St Louis and are in the Hall of Fame.

Lets go Rangers!

Morning After

When I stumbled to bed last night after staring into space for about 20 minutes, my mind was running toward never watching sports again and I figured I wouldn't be on the blog again for quite some time.  But I figure, what the hell, this is what the blog is for after all.

I just can't figure out why it matters so much.  Why do we care if these men and boys win or lose?  I feel like I have a hole in my soul this morning, like something was taken that I can't get back.  I will be able to close my eyes when I'm old and remember that ball sailing over Cruz' head and realizing what it meant.  The singular worst moment I've ever experienced in sports.  Not the worst loss though, the worst loss ever was Airline's undefeated basketball team going down.  That remains my worst night ever in sports.  This is close.

Of all nights, Feliz didn't have his best heater.  Plus, Napoli should have known that Freese's power is to the opposite field.  Without the extra juice on the fastball, they needed to stay inside.  Then, the bad kharma bringing out Oliver who is the only tie left to the bad old days of the Rangers.  Two lefties, two hits.  Hamilton's homer should have been the crowning moment for the franchise; instead it means nothing.

Home teams have won the last 8 game 7's in WS play.  Carpenter vs. Harrison.  Momentum vs. deflation.  A team with 10 titles and 18 pennants vs. a team with 0 and 2.  A charmed team vs. a cursed one.  We have talked a lot about Ryan changing the culture for the Rangers.  Young, Kinsler, Hamilton, Napoli, Andrus, this bunch of great guys will be tested tonight like none other.  Only their character gives us any chance tonight.

I'm debating whether I can take watching it.  Maybe I'll just cancel my newspaper subscription, swear off sports, find some other hobbies, and save myself the pain.  At my age it shouldn't matter so much.

Tribute to Replay

j

Huggy Baby has some Explaining to do with Beasley quotes.

Micheal Beasley has been quoted in court documents discussing Bob Huggins hiring his AAU coach for over 425,000 to get him to Kansas State.

He also talks about the AAU team/coach being a runner for NBA agents.
Things are about to interesting for Kstate and WVA.
He also discussed the move for his mother and the rent being paid by a booster 6 months at a time.

Big 12

If I was the Big 12 leaders, I would take both Louisville and WVa, wait to see what happens with Missouri, and then look for a 12th if needed.  Big-time basketball upgrade, you get Pitino and Huggins in the bargain.  Missouri should stay put; that would be a fairly decent all-around conference.  If MO bags, then I would pursue BYU.  I hopeful they can make it work; we need a central-america conference to stay in place.

S

Couple of Small Items

A couple of stats I ran across and thought were worth posting:

The News posted the most successful pitchers in the wildcard era (1995+) during the playoffs.  We think of Cliff Lee, but Curt Shilling started 15 post-season games, went 10-1, had an ERA of 2.12 and held opponents to a .212 BA.  He's not quite a hall-of-famer for me, but these numbers make it close indeed.

From Jerry West's new book, among other things noted by Sports Illustrated in their recap: Jerry once had an NBA game where he was 16-17 from the field, 12 of 12 from the line for 44 points, plus had 12 boards, 12 assists, and 10 blocks!  Retired for almost 40 years, West is still 4th among all retired players in PPG (27.0) and 2nd in career playoff scoring avg (29.1).

S

No Respect!

Rangers lead WS 3-2, national story line is that Cardinals "blew" game 2 and LaRussa "blew" game 5.  Our hitters and pitchers seem to be playing no role at all.  I guess the Rangers will have to become a dynasty to garner any respect from the establishment.

The Saints Scam!

As the only the professional sports franchise in America that is paid by a state to subsidize the revenue, I thought it was time to again revisit the absurd politics in Louisiana.
As we all know, Louisiana teachers are left to fend for themselves for many school supplies and then we have to give tax payers money to a team approaching a value of 1 Billion Dollar.

1.  The state pays Tom Benson about 8.5 million a year in an effort to keep him in Louisiana.
(Then Benson went to court to avoid paying taxes on it... ha.)
2.  The state pays for the upgrades on Superdome and lets Benson keep money on the luxury boxes and use of the dome. (Why is New Orleans not paying for all of this like other cities....Who knows.)
3.  The state pays for private office space owned by Benson around the Superdome.
(Add another few million that La Tax payers owe.  Edwin Edwards must be proud)

Estimated money to the Saints over 20 million a year directly related to La tax payers money.
Ever economic study, I have seen in the last 5 years says this is a lose/lose proposal when cities..(not states) put up money and expect some huge economic impact.  The call a redistribution of wealth not additional money.

What the Saints going to make in 2010-11- This is from Forbes.
 (Operating Salaries 160million...operating expense 29million...
Gate Rcpts 55million. total revenue per year 261million.)
This suggest Benson pockets a cool 127 million dollars and that doesn't include the rentals the state pays him in his scheme on the Louisiana population.

Lets take just the  upfront 8,5 million each year and pour it into education.
Forget the other 10's of millions.
There are about 700,000 students in Louisiana --- You can do the math!
La continues to rank toward the bottom of the national education list,
it is little wonder, since the Teachers have less to work with than they should.

I heard some Saints fans saying they should be America's team.
Well some Americans want Socialism and it is strong on the I-10 corridor, but it is not something I would support.

Aritcle on Maddux

I thought you would like this article on the Rangers Pitching coach.  We have often talked about how much they have improved.
http://www.foxsportssouthwest.com/10/24/11/Madduxs-impact-on-Rangers-staff-may-be-d/landing_rangers.html?blockID=588526&feedID=4519'

OK- I had to say something- LaRussa has lost his mind running with Pujols at the plate.
The bunt early confused me, but the stolen base attempt is a shocker.

J

Rangers Game 5

Isn't amazing how the Cardinal and last year Giants pitchers literally dominate the Ranger hitters. (Or so it seems.)

Carpenter on the hill in the turning point of the series is a serious concern.  I admit to having my doubts on the Rangers surviving without Hamilton being healthy.  Thank goodness Young has found his swing again, but is it enough?

When Wash pitched to Pujols the other night with a base empty, I almost exploded.
Why of Why does he continue to do this, they almost lost the Detroit series due to this kind of thinking.
A manager literally has to determine things differently in these high pressure situations.
j

Weekend in Football Rvw part 2.

-LSU looked more dominant than I have ever seen. Chiznik is definitely not a defensive guru.
-Bama was my favorite all year, but I have more faith in LSU now than I did before.
-The Wisconsin-Spartans game was incredible. What an unbelievable way to lose a game.  It was as good a display of Replay as I have ever seen.
- Watching Oklahoma the last two weeks, gives me more feeling that LSU and BAMA would manhandle the Big 12 schools.
The Defense in Norman seems to lack the speed up front that the big boys deliver.  There is NO Excuse to lose to TTech. (I am ashamed to admit I fell asleep during this game with 8 minutes left. )
- Notre Dame and USC  -  I always like Crist, but watching him fumble away the ball inside the 5 on the way to tie or take the lead is just ugly.  He doesn't have that it factor.
The the Irish just mentally collapsed.
USC still has the talent, but they are not as good as they should be.
S, you are correct this is huge win for Kiffin.
- OK ST was lucky to beat the Aggies and I do not see them remaining undefeated.
- Stanford plays Oregon in 2 weeks.  I will be tuned in for this one.  Stanford is a little short on athletes, but Luck has them so efficient. The Ducks 2nd string QB seems to be a better passer than Thomas.
-I was shocked to tune into Air Force and Boise State an see Air Force scoring so many points.  This game was really competitive.  It was a one score game with 3 min left and Air Force could not stop BS when it mattered.
-Clemson can score, but good grief that Defense is terrible.  It is not like LSU giving up 400 yds passing when the game is out of hand.  Since Fla State/VTech weeks teams are running up and down the field on them.

Some Weekend Thoughts&

*  Cowboys may have made a major mistake in committing big dollars to Doug Free based on 1 year of solid performance.  He gets beat badly seemingly once or twice every half.
*  I'd like to see DeMarco Murray get some regular carries to see what he can do.  Strong & explosive.
*  Cam Newton - just wow.
*  Allen - classic case of overrating a team based on # of returning starters.  They look good early and then everyone catches up.  They made an incredible effort to win in the closing seconds against Marcus on Friday, but the defense is just awful.
*  I'm in awe of how good LSU and Alabama are at this point.  Knowing they haven't proven anything yet, I still have to say it's the best LSU team I've ever seen through 8 games.  Just ho-hum blow outs.  2 weeks for both teams to get ready; advantage Saban.
*  Trying to put my feelings aside, it was great to see Pujols' display last night.  What a treat to see an all-time great do something like that on the big stage for all to see.  We have to stop and appreciate getting to see a first-ballot guy with full powers on display.
*  I would have bet on Stoops to run the table and make it to the big game this year.  How does he let these things happen?  No excuse.  They have too much talent to lay an egg like that at home.
*  I totally agree with your post on USC-Notre Dame.  That was a nice signature win for Kiffen who badly needed it.
*  I'm going to be a wreck tonight knowing the Rangers' season is in the balance.  I like this team so much and can't stomach losing in the finals 2 years in a row.

Gameday

-How about Ole Miss Freshman Brassell playing both ways in an SEC game.  Straight out of the Univ of South Panola.
-Hogs can just score when they need to.  *8 rec, 6 rushes,  playing DB against the hog is impressive.
-LSU - Missing 2 of your top 3 Cb's cannot be good.  Unlike most, I don't think Ware is a big loss in running the ball.  The passing game may miss his hands and blocking.   They have 4 people that can average more than 4 yards a carry behind him.
- Tannehill is making too many mistakes this year. ( Girl Problems?  Ha.)
- La Tech Uniforms are great when they where blue pants with white.
-Ok St is too fast for Missou, they just have better athletes.
- Even if these Uni's at LSU are not bad, I do not like the changes.
-Auburn scares me.  LSU DCoord had real issues last year and I wonder if its a scheme issue.
-I think Wingo, W Monroe guy, is a WR playing LB.
- Can you believe there is no press for Irish-USC when they are 5-1 and 4-2.
-Its still in 1st Qtr and Oregon has 157yds rushing at 17 yds per attempt against Colorado. How did the Buffs become so bad? 239 yds of offense and counting.
- Hilliard is huge, I remember watching UT's Brown a few weeks after Hilliard and thought Brown was average size. Ha.
Scary part is LSU is suppose to sign the best RB in the state from last year at mid term.  I already thought Magee was the best HS player I saw last year and he is 4th string TB.   Consider that and we saw WV rb that went for 300 this year in a game.
-update the Ducks have 293yds of offense in 1st QTR- 29-0.   Buffs probably missing the days of Nebraska running game.
The worse part is Colorado has no turnovers!
-----
Halftime LSU - all praise for new OCoordinators!
- Wonder how long we wait before Ford goes off for 20 or 40?
- Ooops and There it is! Miles confuses me on his RB's.  Luckily they are all better than Scott.
-Lee looks comfortable again, first time I have seen it since Jefferson came back.

The Great Game

As the baseball playoffs approached and I was gearing up, I first read Josh Hamilton’s book, and then I downloaded the new biography of Stan the Man Musial (fitting since the Cards ended up in the WS). While reading the story of the most undervalued great player of the 20th century (more on that in another post), I once again got interested in one of my favorite pastimes, diving into baseball stats. I always enjoy refreshing my memory on the great players and taking a hard look at some of the great arguments of the past. Here are a few things I discovered or re-learned:

Ted Williams is certainly the greatest “modern” hitter if you consider modern to be basically WWII and forward. In his prime, Teddy was good for .353/36/142 per 162 games, plus over 40 doubles, and astounding OBP and OPS of .486 and 1.128. No one since can touch those figures. As much as I love Musial, he was just a tad short of Teddy Ballgame. Interesting that those 2 both averaged 87 extra base hits and 371 total bases per year in their prime. Williams had a little more power and more walks (Musial was selective but not compared to Williams).

Joe DiMaggio was better than I have wanted to allow. My Yankee anti-bias. During his prime, Joltin’ Joe was going for 85 extra base hits, 147 RBI and a .330 average per 162 games. His total bases per year (381) was higher than Williams and Musial. He did not walk a lot, but given that by all accounts he was a great center fielder, he does rank as an all-timer. He got old fast and did not pile up the numbers in the latter part of his career. Missed 3 full war-years also.

Like Musial was just barely behind Williams, likewise Teddy was not quite as good as the Babe. The question is how much did the game change in the decade between the end of Ruth and the start of Williams? Lest we forget, Ruth transitioned from ace pitcher to full-time hitter and only averaged .357/54/158 during his prime years. His OBP and OPS were .487 and 1.222. Far from the fatso that most people think he was, he was lean and mean in the 20’s churning out 36 doubles and 9 triples in addition to the 54 dingers. Yes, that’s 99 extra base hits per year!

I just had to revisit the Mantle/Mays discussion. Similar to DiMaggio, I’ve downplayed Mays and considered myself a Mantle guy. I still do, realizing that Mantle was injury prone. But, Mays was incredible. Surprising is that Mays had a higher slugging % than Mantle during their primes. He had a higher average, actually hit more homers and had more extra base hits than Mantle per 162 games. Also stole significant bases. Mantle was more selective, making his OPS higher, but this is a tough argument. Mays was just a little better than Aaron, who was just a little better than Robinson.

Is Albert Pujols the greatest right-handed hitter ever? Close and certainly in the modern era. But he doesn’t quite match up to the forgotten Rogers Hornsby. One of the great overlooked accomplishments in baseball is the fact that from 1921-1925 in over 3,000 plate appearances covering 5 full seasons, Hornsby averaged .402. And he did it with power, averaging over 80 extra base hits. In fact, for the entire decade of the 20’s, Hornsby averaged .382 and 28 homers. Pujols is close, in fact his first 10 years are by a wide margin the greatest by a right-handed hitter since WWII. He is the only player ever to average over 40 homers + 40 doubles for an entire decade.

I looked at Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. Cobb as expected was just a little better. An amazing stat to me about those 2 is that in the dead ball era, hitting few homers, they both had a slugging % over .500.

I took a good look at Rickey Henderson. Henderson carved a very marketable niche for himself and it worked both for him and his teams. In his prime (the 80’s) he was hitting almost .300, with a .405 OBP, stealing 96 bases, scoring 132 runs, and hitting 18 homers per 162 games. One of the most unique players in ML history, and one of the most memorable for me.

In the 90’s the argument was Bonds vs. Griffey. What a moron Barry Bonds is. Before the steroids he was putting up a .305/40/121 per 162 games, with an OBP of .432 and a slugging % of .600. Also stealing 40 bases. Yes he averaged a 40-40 in his prime per 162 games! Griffey could not match most of Bonds’ numbers, but he was the greatest home run hitter of everyone I looked at. Per 162, he hit 47 homers and hit .302.

Finally for some reason I looked at Joe Morgan. Much of the 70’s and 80’s were devoid of all-time great players. Morgan had a memorable career and is visible to modern fans. How good was he? Talk about a strange career. Morgan was not very good when he was young, and not very good when he was old. He had this 6-year window where he was actually maybe the best player in the game. Otherwise he really sucked. But for 6 years he avg’d .301 with a .430 OBP, stole 65 bases, hit 24 homers, and scored 123 runs. After those 6 years, sucked again. Really bizarre.

Here are the “prime” years that I used to evaluate the players:

Ruth 1920-1931
Williams 1939-1949
Musial 1943-1954
DiMaggio 1936-1948
Mantle 1952-1962
Mays 1954-1965
Aaron 1955-1965
Robinson 1956-1966
Bonds 1990-1998
Griffey 1991-1999
Pujols 2001-2010
Hornsby 1920-1929
Cobb 1907-1917
Wagner 1900-1909
Henderson 1980-1990
Morgan 1972-1977

Age of NFL Starters

Jonathan and I were discussing the young teams vs reportedly older teams this morning.
I thought I would look at the starters.  Offense vs Defense and overall for some of the better teams.
Tampa is definitely the youngest amongst the better teams.

Things I Would Change In Sports

1.   NFL
A) Replay Rules- All reviews upstairs after every play.  No on the field ref reviewing in a hood.
Why would a coach have to burn a time out to remedy an officiating error.
B)  All players should have transmitter in helmet for coach to call plays.
C) Bigger more protective helmets.
2.   NBA -
A) Why do defenses have rules on the type or style.  How about this?  You cannot touch the opposing players.
B) Traveling is OK to call, no continuation moves.
C) Charging is a TO not a foul.

3.   Golf:
A) If the ball moves due to wind.  No penalty.
B) Balls that adjust the spin based on the speed of a swing.

4.  Hockey:
A) Put them in football type helmets with face protectors to protect the block heads.   You can keep the ridiculous fights, but if you remove helmet a weeks worth of games gone.
B)  One less player on the ICE.

5. Soccer.
A) An actual clock.
B)  A Dive means you miss the next game.

6.  Baseball
          A.  Enclose the dugouts in Plexi glass for safety.
          B.  Nets down foul stands to protect fans.

All sports should either allow some PE drugs or just use Olympic testing standards.

7.  Call Cycling a team sport.

The Saban Legend Started Where?

The experts on the blogs and internet outlets are giving Bama a pretty good advantage over 2 weeks out.

I found the LSU example of proper high jinx in Bama.

Harbaugh-Schwartz

My gut reaction when I saw the video was that Harbaugh did it intentionally.
Forget the quickness of the move, that was a pay back slap in the back with a comment being said as it happened.

Normally, and initially, I sided with Schwartz.  Then I learned two things:
1. He mocked Harbaugh during the game for an illegal challenge.
2. He evidently dismissed Jimbo's ability to change the 49ers prior to the season, to his face.

Then I started remembering some things he has done and recently Schwartz taking shots at Dez Bryant after a win and then he kept playing to the media about it.

Kind of a classless act in Detroit evidently.  I really wanted to like this guy.

One thing we do know is that Harbaugh didn't like Petey Boy at USC.
Given that he attacked Pete the Cheat makes me side with Jimbo in this one, Schwartz need a shot and reminder.
I tend to like Harbaugh's taste in character.

J.

It is funny how great these two teams are supposed to be, yet we watched the Cowboys outplay both of them with big time injuries.

Cowboys - Pats

Unlike most of the free world, I am not too upset after this loss.
The Cowboys had a chance against the Pats in the best game I have seen the Pats play this year.

After the string of teams they have played, maybe the Boys will break the 500 record, which is more than I expected.
The DB's are getting back and the WR's will only get better.

That OLINE is typical Houck, weak!.

I look forward to watching them gain some confidence through the next few weeks.

Cowboys-Pats.

What a worry wart I am over this game.
Its not that I expect the Cowboys to win in Foxboro, but I can dream.

Someone we know asked me if the Pats were good, after I choked a bit during my giggle.
I compared them to the Saints.  Interesting comparison when I thought about it a little bit.

Offense and Defenses have the same strengths and weaknesses.
Personally, I think the Saints are better but either team could beat down a team that isn't prepared.

I will post a really good article from the Shreveport Times on Romo after this game.
It had some interesting comments from some pro football people. Not negative as most have been since his Lions freak show, even though he is prone to spectacular blunders.

30 Minutes to game time.

Did I mention that the local yahoo's at Fox TV had an Internet vote to show the Saints or the Cowboys.
What is so ridiculous is the fact that the station posted the survey during the Saints game last week when the Cowboys were on a bye week.
Needless to say the Saints won this vote.
If they knew this was vote going to happen,
WHY _ WHY did they not advertise the vote during the Cowboys - Lions game the week before?
Maybe someone has as agenda for these (as you S called a mindless lot) of fans.
I looked at it and it had restrictions on who was to vote and it restricted the areas.
I wonder if the NFL realizes that these nut jobs are excluding the real information on people within 40 miles.
The NFL has guidelines and in true Louisiana fashion crooked politics is prevailing again.
So while the rest of America is watching the Boys and Pats in national broadcast game, 30percent of this areas football fans will be pulling for the Saints against an overrated Bucs team.
I really cannot stand watching transplants discussing football in our area, but they are less irritating than band wagon fans that used to pull for the- Steelers, Dolphins, 49ers, Colts, Raiders, Bears and etc. ---enough said.
All because of the lunatic fringe.

Thank goodness I have the resources to avoid dealing with this mess.

J.

REG-GIE REG-GIE I mean NEL-LIE NEL-LIE

The Rangers fans should lose the CRRUUUUZZZ chant.

NEL-LIE  NEL-LIE

This is guy is the modern day Reggie Jackson, but with a much better swing.

Weekend of "ME" Time

After a weekend of hunting, making two days of biscuits and gravy with squirrel and sausage.
(S,  I know you said you liked my deer chilli last week, well my biscuits were better. Ha.)

I am ready to type about what I thought I saw this weekend in football and baseball.

Vikes winning over the Bucs Friday night was a good start.   The old football adage, long drives keep the speed off the field works for our alma mater.

Rangers- Made my Saturday.

-LSU and Alabama are both better than the last NC teams they had.
-Oklahoma State needs to just say "NO" anytime someone ask them to wear a different uniform.
-I was happy to see the Longhorns fight through the game.  Brown still doesn't look special to me!
-KSTATE - Tech was SNYDER proving again that he just is one of the best.
-Aggies have way too much talent for Baylor.  I am glad they are finally getting over the collapse at College Station.  I still think Arkansas is better than them, but they were coming off of the physical beat down to Bama.
-Florida went to new depths to lose to Auburn... I have never seen a major program that could not field a punt.  Seriously!
-Clemson is just living a charmed life.
- How bad is GA TECH really, if they lose to that VA team.
- Lattimore getting hurt just sucks!
-MSTATE is snake bit, after the LSU game they were a shell of themselves physically.  Now they are just searching.

Not Changing

Some exerpts from an interview with our fearless leader Tony Romo were in the Morning News today.  Among the pearls of wisdom from Mr. Romo were that he won't be changing his approach to the game because he views that as playing it safe.  When asked about his approach to protecting a 27-3 2nd half lead, he brought up Tom Brady throwing 4 interceptions last week, and also said the reason the Cowboys had a 24-pt lead was his mindset to be aggressive and never settle for average.

In short, he is unwilling and/or unable to comprehend the difference between playing to win and understanding the game situation and fitting his decisions into those situations.  He thinks he's right and accepts the meltdowns as the cost of being aggressive.  It's a lost cause.

It is ashamed the games have been watered down with the times it takes to watch them.

Josh Beckett - Now we know the rest of the story.

With the explosion in Boston this week the blame is flying all over the place.

I am really interested in this Josh Beckett drama again, he had a similar past in Florida.
Reports are that he and his fellow pitchers were drinking beer, eating fast-food and playing video games in the clubhouse while their teammates were playing games.

Then a story breaks that Jack McKeon, Beckett's Marlin Manager, had to keep an eye on him and his teammates during his time in Miami.  The Marlins went on to win the series that year and McKeon says Beckett and his group (Brad Penny) would sneak out and drink during the games, so he had to issue bathroom passes to his players during the game.
Shockingly some of these stories were during starts.

We have often wondered why Beckett never turned into what we expected.

I guess we know now!

NCAA Gives Auburn A Pass

I really didn't expect the NCAA to make a statement anytime in the near futere regarding the Cam Newton fiasco at Auburn.

I am glad they shut the door on this, maybe the NCAA has bigger fish to fry after all.
I cannot imagine what is bigger than the best player's dad admitting to selling his sons recruitment.

j.

Cabrera

How great it is to watch a superstar hitter in a 7 game series.
Even though it kills me every time he swings, I can only respect what he does.

How many people have we watched through the years that have taken over a 7 game series?
It is not many, but those that could do it are memorable.
I cannot believe that Washington will continue to pitch to him with an empty base.

Reggie Jackson
Geroge Brett
Alan Trammel
Stargell as an old man.

Baseball has had it's moments!

Matt Millen on Joe Pa

The ex-Nittany Lion player didn't pull the punches on ESPN.
He said that Joe Pa had changed and was acting like he is bigger than the program with his refusal to retire.

It is about time the Penn State grads stood up to what has been happening for the last decade.
There is no way Joe Pa would have survived in a southern power football school.

J.

Garcia dismissed. Finally.

So the OLD Ball Coach is finally getting rid of Garcia for another reported failed substance abuse test.

Spurrier is one of my favorite coaches of all time, but this entire Garcia career in college has made me downgrade what the coach has done in the past.

I am glad he is gone.

J.

Let the 2nd guessing Begin. But I will keep the faith.

Our boy Tim MC, was pretty specific about not pitching to Cabrera in the 5th tonight.
Ouch, the best hitter in the AL doubles down the line.  Not really a shocker.

Removing Ogando  last night sent the tongues a wagging, now Wash will be hit again.

They can't win them all, but like Pujlos in St Louis, the Rangers need to keep Cabrera under wraps, No opportunities to get him emotionally charged.

J.

Rangers-Tigers

Watching the Rangers is such a pleasure, they are so team oriented.
Ryan, JD and Washington have done a fabulous job keeping the bitterness that sometimes hits MLB out of the way the game is played.

The entire line-up is really good and I am very happy with the improved defense during the last two years.

As we discussed Saturday, if Cruz is really getting hot life could really get fun in DFW!.

j

Tebow's Day

Well, Tebow gets his "chance" this weekend.  It's amazing how the media treats him; they are actually offended that anyone would question their expert opinion and think that Tebow can play in the NFL.  I've never seen so many fans pull for someone, and so many media pull against him.  Of course these insiders also think that Fox does not want him and will use any failure on Tebow's part to say "well we tried and he failed so now we can move on."  Very hard situation for Tim to be in.

S

J Gray

I just saw Jonathan Gray in the Faces in the Crowd in Sports Illustrated.  I see he is listed at 5-10 202.  I'm more convinced than ever that is how these rating services work; Gray will not be expected to be an every down back in the Big 12 because of his size.  He may become that, but they don't expect it or they don't assume it.

Al Davis has passed away.

We have had 20 years of Al Davis in his senile years.
It is really ashamed that most of the media are not old enough to remember how dominant and great this organization was for decade.

He was an insightful free-spirit in his day.
He drafted or signed 13 hall of fame players in the 60's and 70's a truly amazing number.

His has only one losing record against any teams that started playing the Raiders before the 90's/
His arch rival the KC Chiefs lead the series.
Amazing, the Raiders were really a special organization until the 90's.

J.

Rangers-Tigers

The reasoning I have used our entire life on who will win a series is going against my heart.

The reason I picked the Tigers over the Yankee is the reason I worry about the Ranges.

The Best Pitcher and the best hitter play for the Tigers.
Verlander!.  3 starts unless the Rangers luck into a rain out after one inning like the Yankees did.

We can only hope that the a superstar in Arlington colors suddenly gets his groove back.
The incredible chemistry in Texas has made this Texas team special and I hope it continues.

j.

Red River Rivalry

Rivalry being the key word for what I am leaning toward.

Texas and Oklahoma both have the athletes to compete with anyone and I am curious to see what happens.
Texas has so many freshman playing important positions that anything could happen.
DB and QB is so important against the Sooners, that it could get ugly and I know thats what the national media guys are focusing on.

But I think Texas will make a game of it and Landry Jones will win it in the 4th like he did at Fla State.
Mack needs to slow this game down and not attack until the end.   Whitacker and Brown all day with play action between the sidelines.
Sooners by 4.
Because of the Rivalry, I really think the Horns could shock the Sooners with a little luck.

TCU - They are where they belong.

TCU earned everything they are getting with the Big 12 invite.  It made me very happy, I still hate that the SMU tradition will probably not be renewed with the Big 12. What TCU has done is incredible since they were left out of the Big 12 for the likes of Iowa State and Baylor.
I was all for the move and still support TCU completely, but some of the Aggies haters that cover football for the Morning News like T Mc has lost his mind thinking that TCU is even up or a positive over Texas A&M.
When I was in Dallas I adopted the Frogs as my local team and went to the Football and Basketball games on slow weekends.   Comparing TCU and the AGGIES is ridiculous! TCU is too far behind in so many ways compared to Texas A&M that I would rather not take shots at the facilities and what I expect to happen on the field.

I was equally disappointed that some say that TCU should stick with Big East like Star Telegram  (Gil L)
That is just hard for me to imagine that anyone would think that the Big East travel is good, so you don't have to play the higher quality Big 12.
Do I think TCU would have played in the Rose Bowl if they were in the Big 12 last year.  NO.
Do I think they will surpass Texas Tech.  NO.   Some years, Maybe, but overall.  NO
Do I think TCU will rule Baylor if Briles and Patterson stay in the same jobs.  NO, they may get a slight edge, but I expect it to be close.
Are they the Ole Miss / Mississippi State of the Big 12.  Yes.

Frogs Rejoice

I guess Gary Patterson better indeed brush up on his gracious loser speech since he'll be having a few more losses coming up in the Big 12.  But seriously, what a great day for TCU and for Patterson.  He will get to test his mettle against the big boys on a regular basis, and be on a more level playing field for recruiting.  Good timing with the upgraded facilities also.  As I've said in the past, there is hardly a dollar value you can place on what Patterson has meant to TCU, and now it gets even bigger.  They cash in on his success and slide back into a major conference and all the exposure and money that brings.  SMU next if Missouri leaves?

Chad Jones ran today- 15 months after wreck.

Did you see that former Tiger and current Giant Chad Jones ran a 4.84 40yd dash today.  (His combine time was 4.57)

This surprised me, Jones had such injuries that it was reported that Dr's thought he would lose his leg.
If I remember correctly, he had a broken tibia and fibula in a severe manner.  They reported it was so bad the internal arteries were exposed at the scene.

Jones won both a Football and Baseball title during at LSU was a LB playing safety.
He is quiet and athletic freak, I hope he makes it bake to contribute.

Tom Terrific talks about the Ryan Express

S, I am posting this just for you.
Your favorite pitcher of all-time is still a classy guy.
This article is about his support for Ryan.

http://www.foxsportssouthwest.com/10/04/11/Seaver-ecstatic-over-Nolan-Ryans-success/landing_rangers.html?blockID=575248&feedID=9345

"I threw hard. [Jerry] Koosman threw hard and [Gary] Gentry threw hard. We were all hard throwers and then there was Nolan," Seaver recalled.
"I haven't talked to him about pitch counts but I can presume what he would be thinking. Pitch counts are crazy, right? They're absurd," Seaver said. "I had a pitch count. Under Gil Hodges, I had a pitch count. It was my pitch count. I determined where I was beginning to go downhill and it's about 135 pitches. It wasn't computer driven but it was an honest pitch count number for me as a general rule. Koosman was probably 145 pitches, the big left-handed German. Nolan was probably 155. I think he's brought that philosophy forward."

j.

Gilbert leaving Texas

I am sure this was not a surprise to anyone with Gilbert saying he was leaving Austin, but I do feel a little disappointment that Gilbert failed to live up to expectations.

He played really well against Bama in the NC games, so I am still surprised about his lack of effectivenes.

J.

Patterson is at it again!

After the game Saturday, when SMU beat TCU 40-33 for the Iron Skillet Trophy,  I posted a comment about how Patterson will have to become more gracious as the teams around him improve.
Well, with Patterson's latest tirade of self righteous BS, I can safely say that he is following the status quo.
Jones is qouted as saying this after the game:
They or Patterson- "don't change, they do what they do and that's what good football teams do."

Well afterwards Patterson went off on Jones and SMU.

"He (Jones) hasn't changed much either, so if we want to get into those kinds of matches. But, I don't go there," Patterson said. "All we've ever tried to do here at TCU is help SMU. At some point in time we were going to get beat by them, so we got beat by them. We've helped them, let them come over and talked to them about how we do things academically, how we do things at the stadium, how we do everything to try to make their program better and their way of thanking us for that is to cut us down."

"SMU has had a lot of help from us over the last three or four years to improve their program," Patterson said. "I don't appreciate being treated the way it is; that's how we got reciprocated. We're going to go on about our business, but they're not going to get the same help anymore -- not about a ballgame, not about conferences, not about anybody. They're getting no help from Gary Patterson, period.

"They (Big East) shouldn't ask me at SMU about going into a conference, they shouldn't ask me about how they play, they shouldn't ask me about their players, they shouldn't ask me about anything because they're not getting any help, period, any more. Because we've bent over backwards to make sure that they can improve their program because I believe that's what you do."
Patterson then added further fuel to his fire.

"To be honest with you, SMU people have been looking down at TCU for a long time over here," he said. "So, us winning and doing things, the older group of alumni around here have a certain feeling about SMU. I didn't have that feeling, but I'm getting it."
------------------------------------------
I must admit watching Patterson, but would never hire him into a big time program.

June Jones comments today on the fued were a little more classy.
"I'm kind of disappointed, I thought I gave them a compliment. Obviously it got misconstrued to him, but that stuff happens.
"I know a loss sometimes makes you say things you wish you hadn't said. ... I wanted to tell him we try to copy what he does. They don't change. They do what they do, and that's what good teams do."
"Gary is a good guy. I have no issues with him. He's always been helpful and he's a good football coach."

SMU administrators have taken a different approach.
They are selling Iron Skillet Tickets for $40.33 to see the final 4 home games at SMU.
J.
Wow! I mentioned this problem 2 years ago, but one day the national media is going to get wind of this stuff.

Still an Afterthought

SportsCenter led with the Yankees this morning and spent 10 minutes talking about that game.  The Rangers were the 1st team to make the championship series, but they got 2 minutes.  Some things will never change, no matter what success they have.

Stallings on Rivalries

I found this on OKTC in an interview with Gene Stallings, he compared the Bama-Auburn game to Aggies-Horns.
"Texas-Texas A&M they talk about it a week before or a week after. Alabama-Auburn they talk about it every day. No matter where you are. Alabama-Auburn is a way of life."
Just an opinion, but anyone listening Paul Finebaum is getting a feel for the hatred.
These same radio listeners from other parts of the country must be confused when these same "team hating" fans start chatting "SEC SEC SEC."

I thing the Aggies and their fans will fit in perfectly.
Missouri will be a more interesting fit.

J.

My Decompression is about complete on Romo meltdown and Miles/Jefferson.

A friend of mine text me Saturday: "Now Florida will have to prepare for JJ."
My Response:    "Why?  They wear helmets, so his kicking game is not important!"
-
My fuse started melting Saturday with the "Mad Hater" playing JJ so that he would score a TD early in the game.
It was putrid!  LSU blows out a bad Kentucky team and I am almost embarrassed for our state school.
Then Miles is complaining about the LSU faithful that he is hired to represent booing what Jefferson and he represent.
Jefferson maybe innocent, which I doubt, but it seems they are slanting it to say it wasn't as bad reported and that attacking someone after curfew can be acceptable.
Yesterday he even suggested and referred to many LSU having criminal past.  What a BUFFOON!

As a caveat:  It is little wonder that Lee had his worst game of the year, Miles has always played his favorites and the production be damned.  After this spring and summer of  Miles butt kissing on Jefferson, Lee has to know Miles will try to save face and force the QB controversy to prove he was correct.  Lets not forget the RB love affair with Scott over the talent Williams.

As for Romo, he will still be how I spend my weekends marvelling at his incredible plays and then suffering while waiting for the next mental mistake.
Dallas has outplayed the Jets and Lions, the only thing lacking so far, Romo's inability to avoid errors.
I hate it, but I will still be screaming during the next game.

"Show Me" State is Coming

How is this picture for a "SHOW ME" for the upcoming memeber to the SEC.
I found this on Outkick the Coverage and looks better than breaking up Bama/Auburn.
Notice the Missou is closer to GA than the Aggies.
The SEC West is just brutal in Football, but in BBall the east will be fun.
J.

DFW - The Good News

Now for the good news, not long ago Randy Galloway was calling DFW "loserville".  Now the Mavs are the sitting NBA champs and the Rangers are heading for their 2nd straight ALCS.  Jerry Jones finds himself looking up at the "other" DFW franchises with envy.  TCU is the reigning Rose Bowl champion, SMU has it's mojo back under June Jones.  How sweet it is in DFW!

S

The Aftermath

Like you I've had a hard time dealing with Sunday's meltdown.  What Tony Romo did to me Sunday was something I haven't experienced that many times.  Very different from having a QB with no talent, Romo is, or seems to be, all tease.  For the first time, I really connected with the Cowboy fans who have always ripped him.  There is so much emotional investment when you're a real fan.  Knowing how good he can be and to watch him throw away a game is almost impossible to watch, in fact at this point I don't know when I'll watch again.  Until this year I never really believed that he wasn't capable of leading the team to big wins in the playoffs so I just chalked the criticism up to fair-weather fans.  But now I'm becoming convinced that he just doesn't have the mental makeup to be a leader.  How else do you explain not being enough of a pro to protect a 27-3 lead?  At his age, I don't think it can be coached out of him.  He just won't do it.  And, if you're his teammate, how do you stay behind him when you see him ignore common sense and cough up a game you had in hand?  The fact is, if Garrett were to follow his own philosophies and hold every player accountable, Romo would be benched.  What he did this weekend was completely unacceptable for anyone in a leadership position.  What a disaster!  Millions tied up in a guy who simply will not play smart football and who has your future in his hands.  What I do know is that in 2 weeks if I can find something else to do, the Cowboys will no longer dictate my Sunday schedule.

Romo Giveth & Romo Taketh Away

I guess there's just nothing left to say.

S

Cowboys

- I expect a close game, but I really do not see how the Cowboys are winning with these injuries.
- I wish you would read this article on Stafford from Matt Mosley
He was offered a D1 scholarship before he ever played a down of High School Football.
http://www.foxsportssouthwest.com/09/29/11/Lions-QB-Stafford-still-cheered-on-in-Da/landing_cowboys.html?blockID=571520&feedID=9242
- Dez Bryant literally ducked his head and ran over LB Levy for the Lions.  I have never seen a WR do that before.
I mean he ran over him!
-Is Calvin Johnson as productive as his reputation?  I am still unsure, I cannot say he isn't because of the offenses he has played in.  Rob Ryan gave the Lions ammo with this comment.
"We work against better receivers with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant,"
- Dez Bryant is more productive than his reputation.  He catches everything and returns punts.
- So Red Jesus is 7-4 in his career with 9 straight games decided by 3 points are less.  The Cowboys are playing better than I expected this year.   Good for Jerry and the head coach.
-Witten seems to be protecting his chest a little more than last week.  Tough dude.

College Football

= Clemson has beaten Auburn, Fla State and VTech the last 3 weeks while actually dominating all 3 games.
Is this the Auburn/Oregon of 2011.
= The change at Clemson, who always had NFL talent, is Chad Morris.  Morris built the dynasty at Lake Travis and then went to OC at Tulsa that beat Notre Dame last year.    Sounds like the Auburn Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzhan doesn't it.
=I felt sick today when Les Miles let Jefferson in the game to run a QB sneak for a TD in 1st quarter.   I was very happy the fans were booing the bum.  They then cheered when Lee came in the next series.
= Miss State and the injuries are a shell of themselves.  It is sad.
= Auburn wins! or should we say Garcia lost the game.  He is really inaccurate.  Spurrier needs a QB coach or something.  This is a waste of a good team.   I did get a kick out of Auburn's Chiznik agressively lecturing his defensive coordinator during a team huddle in 4th quarter.
=TCU losing to SMU.  Two thoughts.  1.  Good for June Jones and SMU.  2. Patterson will need to be more gracious in his press conferences now that the Mid Level teams around him are getting better.
=Hogs wake up in 2nd half or did they?  Todd McShay blamed the Aggies coaching for not making adjustments.   Sherman explained his defensive as a scheme that takes chances.   Someone, should show him the 1200 yards that they have given up the last two weeks and suggest big plays are worse than long drives when you are up by 3 scores and a short clock.
= RGIII is the real deal.   He did throw a pick today with his 5 TD's,  The pick was caused by a blitz that hit him while he was releasing the ball.  He is a great player.    Snyder is just a great coach, he slowed the game down and Baylor still scored 35 points.
=Texas is vastly improved on offense.  It is fun to watch the diversity.
= BAMA is just Good.   That LSU game will be a blood bath.   When Florida cannot run the ball after opening with a long passing game being successful.  13 carries --3 yards rushing at half.  Ouch.  They almost look bored whent they get a lead.
= Nebraska and their histrionic coaches are supposed to defensive specialist, but they seem to be confused.  It looks like the Badgers are going for over 500 yards tonight.   I really do not like the Huskers Offense, no wonder they ran from the Big 12.
=Wisconsin is going to be interesting to watch the remainder of the year.   The Big 10 looks weaker than I have seen in a long time.
= I hate that Brantley is hurt, he looked so much improved in this offense.  With this injury and Garcia at QB it is helping GA win the weak SEC East and makes me want to puke.
= Games I would love to watch, that are not scheduled.
4.    Boise State-Stanford.
3.    Wisconsin-Oklahoma State
2.    Alabama - Clemson
1.    LSU-Oklahoma
