The loss tonight was tough, but the Giants appear to be better.
Losing that first game, seems to have killed the resolve of the Rangers.
Bumgarmer really was great.
We haven't even had a chance to see that great bullpen of the Giants under pressure.

I started my College Basketball Saturday.
I went and watched the Pilots this weekend.
S,
I had the opportunity to share with your Alma Mater's head coach what I heard an assistant coach on the visitors team saying about our local players being soft and not aggressive if they missed missed a few shots.
I will save the exact comments, no vulgarity, for when we talk in person.
But it was perfect and raised a bit of what we may call ire. He simply qualified his comment about not liking to brag and directed me to the banners hanging from the roof. He told me he would use the words for inspiration with his team.
Final Score - 116-53.
Pure agression from the opening tip, you will love the games. It is pressure for 94 feet.
Maybe that visiting assistant coach should tell his players to stay in front of their man next time instead of degraded better athletes.

LSU
So I wake up to this article today.
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20101031/SPORTS0202/10310316/1028
Long story short LSU is 100th in the nation in total offense and dropping fast with Bama on the horizon.
What makes it more difficult for me to fathom is knowing that LSU has at least 4 recievers that will play on Sunday barring an injury.
Fire them all.

Baylor - Texas
What kind of world do we live in?
Texas loses to a bad UCLA team, Iowa State and Baylor at home.
I was listening to an Orange Blood website expert and he was talking about the offensive change.
He said they spent the entire preseason time practicing the new Mack Brown instructed running game. He tells a story that they realized against Rice during that first game that they couldn't do it. The team immediately started going back to the spread and couldn't find chemistry between a new QB and the WR's. What a ridiculous coaching decision and now Brown is blaming the assistant coaches.
He said the coaches consider the WR recruits in 2007,8 and 10 bust.
It drives me nuts to think that they are really this bad and they have a RB averaging 9.4 yards a carry (DJ Monroe) that doesn't get any touches - 16 total. Go figure. Is Mack going senile?
Briles at Baylor has done a fabulous job.
For all of the TCU haters, they may want to ignore what the Frogs did to the Bears.

Cowboys-Jags
That defense was really weak again.
It seems like team have found the isolation's in the secondary.
I guess Mr. Fixit needs to get back to the drawing board. Teams are scoring a little too easy with the time of possession changing with Romo being out.
Is a 3 win season ?likly?
I felt like Phil Simms was on point talking about the talent on the Offensive line.
He said something about being a bit slow and they should consider taking some defensive lineman and let them try. Why not?
It was also humorous to hear Sharpe kidding Cowher about how he was going to fix the Cowboys.

Cowboy's
I am writing this in the first quarter.
It is like watching a train wreck, I cannot turn away.
To say I am upset everytime Marion Barber gains 6 yards and jumps up with his chest out is an understatement.
Dropped passes are only part of the problem, this type is close to a finger pointing session in the media. My prediction, mr I am hurt when I get beat, Terrence Newmann will start the onslaught of complaints.

Game 3.
Series at 2-1 and I still feel very uneasy.
I have been traveling too much to blog on the Giants pitching but it has been amazing.
To me the Rangers felt tight, the players were arguing strikes instead of being agressive.
I am not to optimistic about the next few games.

Game 1
The Giants have served notice they will be formidable by bashing Lee and collaring Hamilton; in effect punching the Rangers right in the mouth. This resiliant bunch will now have to punch back and quickly. The guy you have the least confidence in, CJ Wilson, will have to put the Rangers on track. I'd be lying if I said that didn't make me very nervous. If I look hard for a positive tonight, at least they know they can hit Lincecum.

Allstar Game Impact.
I have never, ever, ever pulled for the American League in the Baseball All Star game.
Now, what happens, the Rangers go to the series after the National League wins for the first time in eons.
The results, my favorite team doesn't worry about home field advantage down the stretch. Otherwise, we would be seeing the lights at the Ballpark tonight.

Cliff Lee
Eight times in the history of baseball a pitcher has had 10 strikeouts and no walks in a playoff game.
Cliff Lee has 4 of them.
I probably jinxed the Rangers with that comment, but it is amazing.

Rangers Roster
It's very interesting reading to examine a roster of a good team and how it came together. The biggest thing is it reinforces the need to draft well, no matter which sport. In 2007 the Rangers went whole-heartedly into the "build from the bottom up" philosophy. They allowed Carlos Lee, Gary Matthews, and Mark DeRosa to leave and rec'd picks which gave them 5 picks in the first 54 of the 2007 draft. Four of those 5 picks were hits which gave Daniels flexibility when discussing trades. Julio Borbon and Tommy Hunter are roster contributers from that draft, while Blake Beavan and Michael Main were instrumental in the Lee and Molina trades. Mitch Moreland was a bonus from that draft in the 17th round.
After failing in the Chris Young and John Danks trades, Daniels stepped up again and hit big trading Texiera to Atlanta for Feliz, Andrus, and Matt Harrison. Then he risked another young pitcher, Volquez, and scored a once-in-a-generation talent with baggage in Hamilton. Finally he got David Murphy and top prospect Engel Beltre from Boston for worn-out Eric Gagne. Those trades also all happened in 2007, the year which we will look back and say built the Rangers into a contender.
Then, scouting paid off when their Pacific scouts told them Colby Lewis was worth another shot, and the scouting dept. also scored on deciding that Guerrero was not finished. He gave them a feared power threat to put behind Hamilton.
Then, they got lucky when they exposed Nelson Cruz to waivers in 2008, but savvy enough to wait until the last possible day, when rosters were already set and no one wanted to undo new rosters for an unproven Cruz. He snuck through and has developed into a lethal, although fragile, #5 hitter. More luck when they plucked Alexi Ogando in the rule 5 draft when he was still an outfielder, switched him to pitcher, and waited through the legal problems until he could arrive this year. Finally, a waiver claim on Darren O'Day produced a set-up man with 6 wins and a 2.03 ERA.
Daniels seems to believe in scouting and development more than the other boy geniuses around baseball. This gives us hope that we'll continue to see talent arrive from the minors. Good drafting, good free agent decisions (forgetting Rich Harden), good trading, a just a little luck, and the result is an AL pennant 39 years in the making.

Mediocrity Rampant in NCAA
I'm totally unimpressed with this batch of unbeatens. The Boise fans have to be getting excited. They need Iowa to beat Mich St at home, doable, they need Nebraska to beat Missouri at home, doable, and they need 'Bama to beat Auburn, doable. Even if Missouri and Auburn survive those games, there are other obstacles. I think Oregon/Boise is a real possibility. I even think Boise vs. the winner of TCU/Utah looms as a legit possibility in this year of average BCS teams.

Bob or should I say Boob Stoops.
What a Saturday for Stoops that on Saturday.
First trailing 36-27 with 6:06 to play, Stoops went for two and failed leaving the Sooners down 9 instead of 8. I can forgive him for this, he is playing to win...Right?
Then facing 4th and 10 at at their 7 with a little over 2 minutes left, Stoops punted with no timeouts left!
Stoops Quit!
His reasoning: He was worried about Missouri scoring and making the point differential larger..?? Stoops was worried about dropping in the polls.
Stoops is quickly turning into one of my most despised coaches after I admired the guy for a decade. His whining and now this.
Quote-
"It's a long year. Who knows how poll people look at scores?" Stoops told reporters. "Had we had a reasonable amount, some kind of field position, had we shown any signs the previous three plays of making a play, we would have (gone for it). But I didn't see that."
------
Do you think he would have had enough gumption to play for a win if they had been down 8.
I find the entire episode disgusting.

Upside Down
In my craziest thoughts I would not have considered that the Cowboys' season would be over before the Rangers were finished. Yet it's happened. The Romo news at halftime was not the cause. They were beat before halftime. Despite the star power, this team is hugely flawed from the top down. You might disagree, but when you look on the field tonight, there is no reason to conclude that position for position the Cowboys are out-talented. They do not play with any edge, they cannot raise their level. That comes from the top. We have poor coaching, poor leadership. The GM has made poor personnel decisions at both the coaching, drafting, and roster levels. The coaching staff needs to be completely broomed, even Red Jesus. Their first 4 draft picks next year should be OL, OL, CB, Safety. As hard as it is to accept, this team isn't winning a Super Bowl so the roster needs to be turned over. October 25th and the Cowboys are finished. What to do with my winter?

Cowboys - Giants
A friend of ours sent me a message that I should join in a prayer for the Cowboys.
Well, to summarize my feelings I am leaning toward a long night for my boys.
Can Dallas really score? Better yet, can they stop a team from scoring in a close game, especially when they are familar with Wade's defense?
Now, I bow my head and hope the OLine and Coaches figure out a way to block a team.

800th Post - Ranger's Get The Honor.
Can words describe the surprise I feel with the year of the Rangers.
At the end of spring training, I listened to Gallaway and Co doing their predictions for the Rangers. Some were optimistic and some fet the same old same old.
I fell into the latter category. I believed they would or could win the division but I figured they were on a level with the Blue Jays not the Yankees and Rays.
Never did I expect the starting pitching staff to be that stable, I felt like last year was a fluke. CJ Wilson is my biggest surprise, I felt like his ball flattened out under pressure. I was as wrong about him as I was right about Feliz as a closer. Thank goodness.
As you know, I strongly supported the Lee trade because I believe you go for it when you get a chance. The Rangers have the best overall player in baseball in Hamilton and one of the top 5 pitchers.
Now a prediction.
The Giants are a remake of the Tampa Rays without the defense.
They don't hit well, run well or play great defense.
The Rangers are more talented on offense and defense.
Now, we deal with the two aces.
Lee and Lincecum.
I cannot give Lincecum and advantage and I love the guy, but Lee is just ridiculous under pressure. Call it even, I worry that Lee's arm will eventually give out and Lincecum can pitch 3 complete games.
Offense. Rangers by a landslide.
Defense. Rangers by a bundle.
Coaching. Prior to the this year I wouldnt have said this, but Even.
Pitching. Giants barely. The bullpen was great during the year.
My decision is based on this.
Hamilton creates more adjustments for the Giants than anyone in the National League other than Albert P in St Louis.
Defense for the Rangers is just better they cover so much ground.
By the way, Hamilton's defense is the reason he is truly the Natural and the best player in baseball.
Rangers in 6. They have to get Lincecum just once.
I cannot believe I typed the Ranger as World Champions.

Saints and the Ryan Brothers.
Rarely would I give up a golf date to watch the Saints.
Today, I wanted to see how Ryan defended Payton's magic and see Colt McCoy.
First, I feel better about McCoy than I did in the draft and I liked him more than nearly anyone else. I did not know he had that much fire. If the Browns get a fullback that can pick up a blitz and catch a pass they will be a .500 or more team.
McCoy is still accurate and quick. Two starts against two of the best 5 teams in the NFL and he has preformed very well.
Ryan seems to be as good as his brother and father. Cleveland does not impress me with talent but he was sitting on the Saints routes all day. I have not seen his personality in a press conference as of yet, but if he has half of his families charisma I would consider him in Dallas. I am not saying choose him over some of the superstars currently in the booth, but I was impressed with the way they controlled the run after the catch with the Saints.
Admittedly the Saints had a bad luck day with these interception bouncing the wrong way and leading to touchdowns.
The Saints just are off. It seemed to me that Payton is keeping more blockers in and not flooding the zones with recievers running full speed. Maybe I am wrong, I feel like Brees is at a huge disadvantage if he is asked to throw fastballs to timing curl routes, he just lacks the velocity.
Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis in the wildhog in college. I never consider Hillis to be a tailback coming out, I knew what his 40 time was and he looks good in the NFL. No wonder Malzahn changed to a run spread from his passing philosophy when he arrived.

LSU-Auburn
Did I mention I really like Auburn's Coaching Staff.
Without going into my defense of the Chizik hire when the buffon Barkly was hollering racism when he was hired. I wanted to consider his career highlights.
Prior to going to Iowa State and trying to improve the talent at Iowa State.
He coached at Auburn 2004 Defensive Coordinator and Texas 2005 Same position.
Did I mention that those teams were undefeated? 26-0.
Gus Malzahn- When he went to Arkansas he designed the offense that sent them rising in the polls. We all know that Houston Nutt demoted him similar to what has happened at Ole Miss since his first year. The results? Both Ark and Ole Miss are getting worse. Anyway, Malzahn appears to be the real deal. When he left Arkansas and went to Tulsa they led the nation in offense at 570 yards per game.
Last year, his first at Auburn they averaged 33pts per game or 17th in the nation.
The previous year they were 110th in offense, a likeness to LSU last year.
This year 38 yards per game and nearly 500 yds per game.
Now we have Auburn with less talent than LSU or Alabama possibly being the team that will end up in the NC game. For one the few times in my life, I will pull for Auburn over Bama.
What they have done with the Auburn Offense is just fun to watch.
J.
I will address my thoughts on LSU defense later, I have never been a strong believer of this LSU defense in the 2nd half.
Every knows that Miles and Crowton need to go.

NFL - Head Hunting.
After the last week of constant media coverage on the dangerous helmet impacts, I am tired of the old school people complaining about the NFL wanting to fix the issue before someone dies on the field.
(I am not even going to touch the subject of the helmet leading the tackle that is too tricky with players changing directions.)
Where would I start?
1. 15 yard penalty if tackle is made above the numbers when the offensive player is not leaning over at the waist.
- It is a ridiculous to think that the impact of hitting the head is more effective that a dead center body shot at the ribs or arms. As a matter of fact with a little math you can confirm that the offensive player will be more effectively moved backwards and drop the ball more often.
-The only reason for these head shots is intimidation or injury.
2. The NFL should devise a formula for an angle of attack on plays and review the plays after the game. This will show if certain players are attacking at an angle that is deadly or career threatening.
The penalty could be set in increments and part of the CBA.
A. Warning B. Fine C. Larger Fine. D. Suspension. E. Possibly Career Ending Decision.
To hear Juiced up Steeler LB Harrison whine and say he may retire makes me want to puke. His angle of approach was upward and above the pads on the offensive player on the play.
Overall, football is about big hits! But that is not reason enough to allow players to go after the heads of other players. (The NFL should also address these special team blind side shots with video.)
The league can allow huge impact tackles and keep them below the pads.
These players are good enough to learn how to tackle a foot lower than the current rules allow.

Mallett
I was sent a text on Mallett's behaviour at the Ole Miss game.
1. During the delay for lightning he picked up one of the Ole Miss footballs and threw it in the stands.
2. He kicked a ball away from the ball boy, when the the ball boy was trying to pick up the ball.
He also did his normal bully sessions with getting in the face of the other team.
How much do you think this behaviour confirms the buzz going around about his off the field issues. Think Ryan Leaf comparison.
It may all be wrong, but watching his interactions at the games gives me a terrible opinion of him.

Do you think, I may have been on to something with the lunacy he committed.

Underestimating the Eagles
Allen dominated Flower Mound Marcus going up 30-7 and winning 30-14. Outgained them 450-315 and only punted once. They seem to play to their competition but are still on course to run the table again. The thing is they don't blow people out like really good HS teams do. Trinity is crushing everyone in their path. Oh, forgot to mention that Marcus' QB is one Deion Sanders Jr. But, I don't think he has the talent gene, he attempted only 7 passes and ran 8 times for 1 yard.

World Series - Arlington, TX 2010
I just like writing and saying the words in my title above. I kept telling everyone who would listen, if the Saints can win a Super Bowl, then truly anything can happen. And here it is, the most unlikely of events, the Rangers smash the defending world champs 4 games to 2. Finally after 39 frustrating years we have a professional organization, young talent on the field, and character at the top.
Some numbers behind this ALCS: the Rangers outhit, outpitched, and outran the vaunted Yanks. BA was .304 to .201 Rangers, Slugging was .512 to .370 Rangers, ERA was 3.06 to 6.58 Rangers; Rangers had twice as many runs, almost twice as many hits, and rained down 24 extra base hits on the Yankees' heads. They also stole 9 bases to the Yank's 2. The pitching only yielded 38 hits in 53 innings and struck out 52.
Hamilton hit .350 with a 1.000 SA and a .536 OB%. Cruz hit .350 with a .800 SA. Young Elvis Andrus looked like a star on the field hitting .333 and stealing 4 bases. And the steady face of the franchise Michael Young after toiling in this backwater for his whole career, hit .333 and finally gets some just reward for his loyalty and leadership.
I finally have to give due to Jon Daniels; after ripping him for the Chris Young and John Danks trades, he has to get credit for remaking this franchise. He traded for Andrus and Feliz, Hamilton, Cruz, and Lee, signed Lewis and Guerrero, and has seen the system develop Wilson, Holland, Ogando, Moreland, and Kinsler. I wish Danks was in this rotation, but I think it's time I forgive that one and move on.
Ryan gives this team credibility, and Washington, Hurdle, and Maddux give them direction and professionalism. This week all Ranger fans are getting carried away, but it just may be that we have a real baseball franchise to root for going forward. There will be the drama of trying to sign Cliff Lee, which I doubt. I believe Hamilton will certainly stay. The chemistry is great and I just hope they keep following the plan. World Series - Arlington, TX 2010!

LSU Passing
I found this on Chris Low's post.
-------
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee have combined to complete just 15-of-46 (32.6 percent) on passes that traveled 10 yards or longer this season.
Only one of those passes has gone for a touchdown, and that came in the opener against North Carolina when Jefferson connected with Rueben Randle on a 51-yard bomb.
Three of Jefferson’s pass attempts of 10 yards or longer have been intercepted this season.
---------
Can it really be this bad? I thought Lee had done more and that really tells me how bad Jefferson has been.

Cowboys Defense.
I understand why the national media clammers on and on about the Cowboys talent. I just wish they would qualify it as offensive skill players talent and a nose guard and two linebackers.
When I watch that defense and no turnovers, I honestly believe Wade is doing the best he can. Ware is just great. Hatcher is real good, Spenser is learning to be good. Other than that... ZERO. Rookie Sean Lee, looks like he is two steps faster than the others when he is in there.
Mosely summed it up on his blog today.
"2. Mike Jenkins, cornerback, Dallas Cowboys: He's supposed to be an elite player in the league, but he's being exposed on a weekly basis. He grabs a fistful of jersey when there's no need. And it looks like opposing teams are starting to target him. We were probably too quick to move Jenkins past veteran Terence Newman in the pecking order. "
Can Wade's defense that has always created turnovers, be a scheme issue? I think not. I blame the GM for bad drafts.

SECBlog on LSU Auburn
1. Defending Newton: The truth is that nobody really has put the clamps on Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, who’s leading the SEC in rushing and making a serious run at the Heisman Trophy. But in LSU's defense, he will go up against the best defensive line he’s faced all season, some of the fastest linebackers he’s faced, as well as some of the best-tackling defensive backs. LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis will pick his spots in coming after Newton, and Chavis also has confidence in his cornerbacks, namely Patrick Peterson, to leave them back there alone in man coverage and devote more defenders to stopping Newton in the running game.
2. LSU’s passing game: Jarrett Lee is likely to see the most action he’s seen all season at quarterback for the Tigers, who know they have to take advantage of Auburn’s deficiencies in defending the pass if they’re going to win this game. LSU did throw for 224 yards and two touchdowns in the 33-29 win over Florida. But those are the only touchdown passes the Tigers have thrown this season other than the two Jordan Jefferson threw in the opener against North Carolina. And in four of their past six games, the Tigers have finished with 112 or fewer passing yards. Making some big plays in the passing game will be critical for LSU if the Tigers are going to win this game.
3. Fourth-quarter prowess: It’s pretty well established by now that Auburn loves the fourth quarter. The Tigers have outscored teams this season 72-21 after the third quarter, which also counts the overtime period against Clemson. Even more impressively, Auburn has forced seven turnovers in the fourth quarter against the last two nationally ranked teams it’s faced -- Arkansas and South Carolina. How has LSU fared in the fourth quarter? Not bad. LSU has outscored teams 55-36 in the fourth quarter, but just about all of those points by the opponents have come in two games. North Carolina scored 14 points in the fourth quarter in the opener, and Florida scored 15 points in the final quarter two weeks ago.

Mississippi State
Mullen has done a fabulous job keeping the Bulldogs competitive.
I found this is the SEC Blog on Espn.
=
Dealing with success: Mississippi State has won four games in a row for the first time under Dan Mullen. The Bulldogs are nationally ranked for the first time in nine years. Everybody will expect them to just show up this Saturday and automatically make it five in a row with a win over UAB. It’s never that easy, though, and we’ll find out a lot about the leadership and the maturity in this program. This is new ground for the Bulldogs, who need to be able to handle this success and keep pushing forward. After UAB comes a home game against Kentucky and then a bye the week before Alabama, so the schedule sets up nicely if the Bulldogs can take care of their business and not get caught up basking in what they’ve done to this point.

Delusions of Importance.
Rarely do we mention Kentucky Football, but here you go.
This is a twitter post by Randall Cobb after the SC win Saturday in Lexington.
"To all the fans: loved seein' Yall come late, love hearing Yall tell us we suck during the game, love that we have to play against our own fans too! Love that we can't pack the house when we play the #10 team in the nation …" And so forth. Cobb, a fan favorite who has always handled himself well, later took down the incendiary tweets and played nice:
I am still in amazement when I see people do this kind of thing. Moron!
But in a world in which Chucky Barkley gets praise for his prose anything is possible.

Playoff Pitching
The resurgence of pitching seen this past couple of years just continues in these playoffs. These guys seem intent on outdoing each other every night. Today Matt Cain throws 2-hit ball for 7 innings to shut down Philly. Every day is another masterpiece by someone. Amazingly Texas is the only team pounding out hits every night.

HS Football
I watched Allen in person for the first time this year and came away very unimpressed despite the 7-0 record. The run defense was very shaky and they are turnover prone. At one point they fumbled on 3 straight possessions. I predict a loss this week to Marcus who is 6-1 and playing power football. If so, it will end Allen's 34 game district winning streak. The current track pointing toward the playoffs would pit Allen and Trinity in round 2, their 4th meeting in the last 3 years (Allen leads 2-1). In no way do I see Allen winning that one based on what I saw this past week.

Rangers and Lee
Amazing performance for the Ranger through 3 games.
Now we will see what the old Yankee superstars will do under pressure.
I am so afraid of a Yankee's comeback like that had with Boston and Pedro.
Lee is just amazing, last night he wasn't getting pitches that I was used to seeing during the regular season and he still dominated.
S, you were correct on worrying about that pitch count and a possible game 6 must win situation. We can thank everyone for the explosion in the ninth that kept Lee from running up 135 pitches last night.
I am also happy Feliz is throwing hard again. 99 seems to be a number he can hit at will.

Espn Blog. Mosley-
"Special-teams" unit? The Cowboys had a 14-7 lead at halftime, but the coverage unit gave up a 95-yard touchdown return by Percy Harvin on the opening kickoff of the second half. This is the same unit that gave up a 73-yard return against the Titans last week. Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis vowed it wouldn't happen again, but ... it happened. The Cowboys also had a nice punt return by Dez Bryant wiped out because of a holding penalty on Alan Ball. You won't find a more undisciplined team in the NFL than the Cowboys
================================================================================
Ed Werder- Unintelligent Football
================================================================================
Cowlishaw -Fixing those problems – which realistically can't begin to happen until 2011 – would require a culture change that Jones would have to lead. A simple coaching change wouldn't do more than placate the Wade-haters who want one man to bear the burden for 45 players' mistakes and a twisted philosophy that limits the head coach's authority to begin with.
With that in mind ... let's all get back to the Rangers, OK?
================================================================================
Taylor --- If it weren’t so pathetic, it’d actually be funny.
These Cowboys have become: An NFL joke. A late-night punchline for Leno and Letterman. An embarrassment.
You tell me how Miles Austin could get a penalty for excessive celebration – he leapfrogged Roy Williams after his teammate’s second-quarter catch – the week after the Jason Witten-Marc Colombo fiasco helped lose a game against Tennessee?
=============================================================================
STRUM-
Enough of the season has passed we know we're dealing with. There are minimal injuries. We're getting to the point that the only people you can blame are the players and coaches. They've mastered finding new and inventive ways to lose and being their own worst enemy.
Despite working feverishly to find solutions, I honestly don't think they have any idea how to do it. And what's going to go wrong next? I think we've all become familiar with teams finding ways to win games regardless of the unique scenario from week to week. Whereas the 2010 Cowboys seem to do just the opposite.
HAD ENOUGH YET?
One more comment on Jones- He liked Les Miles.

Can I avoid Talking About The Cowboys?
Wade Phillips should have been fired after the Philly playoff route 2 years ago.
Last year, a playoff route in Minnesota.
This year, more of the same. He should be fired, tonight.
Reasons:
1. Penalties-The penalties are just out of control. I honestly believe that the refs are taking it easy on them, they seem to hold in the secondary and o line on every play.
2. Worst Special Teams coaching in the NFL. Name one other team that gives up that many big plays on defense. Then figure out what team has missed more field goals in the 4th quarter than the Cowboys. Let me help you... NO ONE.
3. O Line - Ok, fire Houck and Garrett also, whom ever is coaching this group and is designated to scheme to pick up blitzes need to go. Romo gets hit more than Big Ben's heavy butt.
4. Wade can't stand up to the GM and supports veteran players over young athletes.
5. Garrett may run the offense, but someone needs to tell him how to put up points. This has been the story since game 10 of his first season in Dallas. Wade doesn't seem to have the answers to help, so time for someone that does.
Dallas may have the best owner in Sports, but they may have the worst GM. He is protecting his choices and it is killing the talent. Wade is one of Jerry's choices and he is, as S says, a Puppet.

South Panola High
I finally had a chance to watch the University of South Panola this weekend.
A dominant team, that learned how to throw the ball a little bit.
They are so big and physical with athletes that the 125-3 record since 2002 will just increase this year with no loses. This looks to be the best team I have seen in the 7 years I have been watching them. Their 9th state title is going to be a route.
Can they beat Euless Trinity? Yes. Would they, I would doubt it only because Trinity is so game tested coming out of Dallas and they are actually bigger than SP.
But South Panola has more athletes.
Scary. I wish I could throw West Monroe in this group, but like Mississippi, Lousiana doesn't allow West Monroe to be tested each game with big sophiticated offenses and defenses. West Monroe will probably have more NFL players than either of the other teams in 10 years. History says they will anyway.
I still doubt any of the teams could beat Katy if they are as good as I expect them to be at year end.
The most well rounded team I have seen was St Thomas Aquinas.
Take your pick, they are all something to see.

Baseball Weekend.
It literally took me two days to get over the Yankees comeback Friday night.
I was sick when I saw Oliver walk out of the bullpen. You will never hear me take an experienced player over a talent.
S, you know I think Wilson should have been kept in to pitch, but I would never have left Oliver in after the first walk.
Please, Please let Hamilton get his timing back.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Halladay and Lincecum pitching Saturday night had me fired up.
The fever faded quickly when that umpire squeezed the strike zone. We were in for a special night with an ump giving the low pitch. I am not asking for a ball that the catcher is getting 4 inches off the dirt, I want the 8-10 inches high. These are strikes during the majority of games and we were cheated. Both pitchers were complaining the dugouts complaining. MLB ruined a good night with that display.

College Weekend.
Nebraska is still a QB from being a top level team. They don't have the overall speed to score without the QB. Texas was just a bit better.
Considering that Oklahoma is much better than Texas with the new slow motion offense at Austin, I would have to put the Sooners as a favorite for the NC game.
Oregon is the other pick, considering the weakness in the PAC 10 defenses. Oregon will outscore everyone and their D is quick.
I would take the Ducks over the Sooners, but as a caveat. The Ducks skill players are smallish and quick. I would expect the injuries to start mounting in conference play.
Auburn, LSU and the SEC.
Auburn is probably the best bet to go undefeated, but I doubt that either team has the capacity. LSU and its blundering staff will get beat by Arkansas high speed offense. Auburn just wins with that incredible offensive coordinator and the head coach knows how to coach defense. I would expect Auburn to have the best shot at beating Bama. I still feel Bama is the best overall team. LSU may have the most talent, but penalties and a lack of originality will probably do them in.
Florida and South Carolina probably closed any chance of a 1 loss SEC team getting in if the status quo remains with the unbeatens.
Boise State, TCU and Utah. I have watched all 3 and Utah looks the best to me.
But in the BCS rankings the Nevada and Air Force losses this weekend these teams took a big hit. Boise St biggest games. Nevada and Hawaii, Nevada will probably have at least 3 loses prior to that game.
Big 10. Iowa really killed the Big 10 losing at Arizona. They were the better team and slept through the first half of that game.
BCS rankings tonight.
1. OK 2. ORE 3. Boise 4. Auburn 5. TCU 6. LSU 7. Mich ST 8. Bama 9. Utes 10. Ohio ST.

This is following a Host on Rivals Radio (Not Bill King) calling Miles his favorite coach. He says Miles is so smart we cannot understand him.
It made me laugh out loud.
Anyway, the Mad Hatter is a magical recruiter and if Crowton figures out how to coach again without the interference, delays and mistakes being made. LSU could be in for an interesting year.
My thoughts, Les is in over his head during a game and I hope Rich Rod loses so maybe Michigan will come save Baton Rouge. I don't see less falling below 9 wins in the near future.

J
Wade is losing it.
We all know his defense was lit up by an less than average offense last weekend.
Today he makes this comment on why old man Barber is still starting ahead of Felix.
“Because he is the starter,” Wade Phillips said. “It’s important that he’s in there. He’s been the guy, and I think he still is.”
Yes, its real important to play a guy that averages less than 4 yards a carry and missed the blitz last weekend.

Colt McCoy
I wish the Mangenius would have waited another week for McCoy to have his first start.
The Steelers are a tricked up attacking group of powerful monsters.
I hope McCoy picks and dumps them to death.

Ole Miss Black Bears
Well, the Colonel is finally been sent to the retirement home.
Sad, to see him go, but I am so tired of the racial sterotype slurs aimed at Oxford.
So, I have to toast the Bears.
I can hear the Hotty Toddy ringing through the Grove.
DM, an Alumni, told me the Colonel was going Bear Hunting.
I hope he has more success with Bears than he had with Tigers through the years.

The Mick
The exerpt in SI from the Mantle book was extremely unflattering. Most of it we already knew, but suffice to say we should just appreciate the talent and discard the character.

Aces
The debate on Mike & Mike this morning was, which of the remaining aces is the best: Lee, Halladay, Lincecum, or Sabathia? Which would you start if the season was on the line? Halladay was getting the majority of the vote. Tough call, but probably right. But, Lee's post-season ERA is 1.44 after 6 starts. By the way, Koufax's career post-season ERA was 0.95!!!!

Rangers - Nolan
I have been a huge fan of Nolan during his tenure in Texas, but I will admit this. I would have fired Ron Washington before the season started.
Well, maybe I would have been wrong.
The acquisition of Cliff Lee was straight out of the Yankees, Sox, and Phillies with picking up an ace. I know they gave up a lot, but I am so happy to see the Rangers playing for a pennant.
April 1972 to Oct 2010, 49 years without a playoff series win until tonight.
The change that Ryan and Washington have done with this pitching staff is incredible.
Who would have thought that the Rangers make me happier than the Cowboys.

Same Old Rangers?
I'm not ready to say that yet. The sky is falling, but they still have a chance. Bottom line is they are playing a 96-win team with a top-flight manager. Washington may have mis-handled the pitching in game 3, but really the Rays just out-hit us in both games, like we did the first 2 games. And, Hamilton's first playoff experience is turning ugly. Whether his timing is off from the layoff in September, or he is just trying too hard, the other Rangers look to him for a spark, and he isn't giving it. He is seeing what other stars find out in the playoffs, good pitching almost every night and a steady diet of breaking stuff. Well, we gave up our top prospect to get Cliff Lee for exactly this situation. Deciding game on the road with little margin for error. A $100 million contract waiting. Can he come through again?

Cowboy Confusion
How do you gain 511 yards and lose in the NFL? The answer is you field a group of old plodders on the O-line and watch quick defenders run around them all day sacking your QB and tipping balls and forcing bad plays. You watch those linemen commit 7 penalities on their own. Then, you watch your hyped defense give up 7 yard/carry to the one guy who they had to contain, and you let one of the worst passing QB's in the league hit you for big play after big play. Today, total confusion reigns in Valley Ranch and we don't have a real head coach to take control. Jerry was to angry and embarrassed to appear in the locker room. Minnesota and Indy loom in the near future. Do you think our O-line can block those guys? We all know the answer.

Fallen Geniuses
It always strikes me how a coach can rise to the top and claim genius status, and then we invariably see the eventual slippage. Urban Meyer is the latest, following in the footsteps of recent geniuses like Bob Stoops and Jim Tressel. My theory is that maintaining is much harder than building. They get so tied up in the massive details of running the operation that they lose the edge that put them on top in the first place. Not that they don't continue to be successful, because they do. But, their invincible aura finally gets blasted and they become just one of the top dogs, not THE top dog. It was there to see last year in FL, but Tebow covered it up. Now, FL can't get out of their own way. It's also striking to see just how much Tebow and McCoy carried those programs. FL and TX have 4 losses only 6 weeks into the post-Tebow and post-McCoy eras.
Also, it's funny that even after 'Bama's demolition of FL I still wasn't sold. I watched them 3 whole games leading into the SC game and I just didn't feel good about them. I thought that Penn St., ARK, and FL all moved the ball and much of what happened was the fault of those offenses, not 'Bama's defensive greatness. I think Saban knew it also. He's fighting the issue of having a bunch of high school studs that don't understand the work that has to be done to win in the SEC.

LSU 6-0
My surprise is how dominate LSU was on offense against Florida.
LSU's defense was sound going into the game, but Lee has changed the dynamics of the offense.
Ridley had no where to run, so the passing game was really incredibly efficient.
Now, the clock managment with 1:20 to play that dropped to 35 seconds to call a timeout and run the luckiest fake field goal is just bad.
How about that ball bouncing straight up to a man on the the run.
Miles is....welll.....Wow.
Florida seems to be playing like LSU now. Penalities, mistakes, confusion.
What happened?

Steve Spurrier One Liners, Miles is in his cross hairs
The crucifixion continues on Miles and other coaches are jumping on board.
Seeing Spurrier's quote this week reminded me why people hate him so much.
Tuesday he says this: "Sometimes you can win and still be a dummy, we've learned that recently, too." He smiled afterwards, and never directly said he meant Miles.
There are numerous quotes from around the country, but I want to laugh with Spurrier.
Quotes.
1. After NCAA violation for getting free shoes at Florida State, He goes to national media saying FSU stands "Free Shoes University"
2. Before Tennessee Florida game to play in Sugar or Citrus bowl.
He says "you can spell Citrus without UT"
3. After Auburn football dorm catches fire and books during LSU game.
"But the real tragedy was that fifteen hadn't been colored yet!"
4. After signing a kid from Alabama at South Carolina
"In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama"; But then he immediately added the punch: "Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours." Reference to NCAA recruiting violations.
5.Asked about Peyton Manning returning for his Senior Year.
"I know why Peyton came back for his senior year: he wanted to be a three-time Citrus Bowl MVP"
6. Asked about Georgia with Florida
"Is Ray Goof still the coach" referring to Goff.

And for the young folks that do not remember, he won the ACC title at "Duke" before dominating the SEC at Florida. But the job he wanted was the LSU job and he was overlooked. It hurts to think about it.
My Driver - I need to vent about stupidty.
Around Easter this year, I started complaining to my golfing pals that I was losing my power fade. I wondered if my swing speed with my driver had dropped drastically due to age and surgeries. I would catch one pure about half the time, the others were weak carries.
So to satisfy my curiousity I checked my 47 years old Swingspeed. The drop was not as significant as I expected. I can't blow 120mph out anymore but I can get close enough to be happy.
Well, this weekend I was on the first tee with a compadre and he commented on my old cheap club. Anyone that knows me, can imagine that I don't really concern myself with cleaning my clubs. (It is so bad that one of my friends in Fort Worth tries to hustle people with the vision of my dirty clubs. He always wants me to carry my old bag, shirt untucked and play in running shoes. (We are going to get beat up over this one day.))
So out of curiousty,I turned the club upside down, wiped the dirt off and I found two cracks on the face. They intersected to make a cross about a half inch from the sweet spot toward the toe.
I shared my new found information with our good buddy and golf pro Reg.
His Comment: "And you won the Club Championship with that!"
I really have no idea how long I have been playing with this broken faced driver, but it does confirm my father's comments about his only begotten son.
"You are and idiot" are common words when he watches my "go for it" style of play.

Lincecum - I just dont understand.
5-10 or 5-11 at 170lbs. Maybe.
We all know the story about his father fitting his throwing motion to his sons body.
What a brilliant and adaptive father-son team.
A 2 hitter with 14 k and 1 walk on 119 pitches/75 strikes. It really makes you wonder if the prototypical motions are best for the body. When Gipson and Feller where falling of the mound with their follow through, did they protect their arms by using the unique body builds they had groomed.
What a great playoff we have seen, the pitching has been incredible during the last two days.
Wilson, Lee, Lincecum and Halladay what is next?
J
How about CJ Wilson, boy was I wrong about him. It is good to be wrong somedays.

2 Naturals
Forgive me if I wander a bit here, but as time goes by I continue to realize that the chance to see God-given "greatness" is what I love most about sports. This weekend I saw the movie "Secretariat". I recommend the movie to anyone, it was really good. Since watching it I've read a few stories about him and watched some videos. What strikes me is that everyone around him gets mystical when talking about him. They all knew they were experiencing something they never would again, something so special it couldn't be described. Secretariat ran the Belmont in 1973. He lowered the world record in the mile & a half by 2.5 seconds and 37 years later it hasn't been approached. It was the first time his jockey turned him loose and let him run all the way. Even though I've seen it numerous times, the movie scene made me almost stand up and cheer. Big Red as he was called by the family was bigger than everyone else, stronger, faster, and had practically no limits on the track. He was the only non-human to make ESPN's Sports Century top 50 greatest athletes. The people around him just couldn't forget what they saw.
The 2nd natural I'll talk about is Josh Hamilton. I've posted about Josh a few times, but I've noticed a similarity this week about him and Secretariat. The people in the national news that haven't paid that much attention are now seeing what the raves are about. Buck Martinez yesterday recalled in 2001 he was managing the Blue Jays during spring training and that the 20-year old Hamilton was the best player in Florida that spring. Tori Hunter was quoted this past weekend saying "that dude is just cut from a different cloth than the rest of us." Ian Kinsler said he's simply the best baseball player to ever walk the planet. Now, I've watched most of the greats since the 70's and I can say he's the most talented baseball player I've ever seen. When they say 5-tool, they are usually stretching for most stars. But, Hamilton truly has all 5. He has prodigous power, he can fly, has a cannon for an arm, has the natural insticts of a center fielder, and hits for a high average. I've watched great fielders and incredible hitters. Pujols is the best hitter in over 50 years. I've watched basketball games where it was clear who the best player on the floor is, but I've never seen that kind of skill and dominance on a baseball diamond until this year. Watch the Rangers for just a couple of days and it's clear that Hamilton is just different. Bigger, faster, stronger and leaves that lasting impression on everyone that watches. He may not have a long, healthy career, but I'm appreciative to have seen what I've seen this year.

The end of the era in baseball. Arod and Jeter
Watching the Yankees made me reminisce about the pending end of two Hall of Famers careers.
What we have witnessed greatness in ARod 35 years old and Jeter 36 years old.
What a spectacle we have watched since 1995: The prima donna with a Minotaur complex and the loved one that dates starlets, the greatest shortstop ever and the media darling that plays shortstop.
Their careers have paralleled each other their entire career with completely different public images. Jeter was never considered to be near the player that Arod was, but he was considered the more valuable player for playing on great teams. This type of media perception irritates me in all sports, but tonight someone questioned me on the subject. So, I decided to document the facts.
Let’s do a comparison:
Before I start, let me be clear.
They both deserve praise and a bust in the Hall at Cooperstown.
Currently, Arod has played 8 more games than Jeter.
Jeter has 500 more at bats. We can cover part of this AB with the 200 more walks for AROD.
Jeter BA avg is 314 to Arod 303.
Both had good speed. Jeter had 323 SB CS 85times. Arod 301 he was caught 72 times.
OBP Jeter 385 vs Arod 387.
If we stopped here it would be a close discussion, but that would be like comparing Tony Gwynn to Albert Pujols.
Here is the rest of the game:
AROD has 613 HR to Jeter 234.
Arod 5043 Total Bases to 4218.
Arod SLG 571 to 452.
Arod Total Bases 5043 to 4218.
Arod Runs 1757 to 1685
Arod Rbi's 1831 to 1135
When you throw in the value to his teams the numbers continue to separate.
Arod accounted 33.6 more runs per year for his team than Jeter.
Crazy number considering how productive Jeter was offensively in his career.
Once and for all lets get rid of this defensive question.
I pulled the Fielding numbers on the two when they both played the same position.
Range and Fielding percentage.
Arod has 18% more range and a higher fielding percentage.
We should also address the clutch player in the playoff perception.
Jeter has been fabulous and being in 138 games provided a many high profile opportunities for the national media to witness.
Here are the playoff numbers.
Jeter OBP .383 SLG.479 BA.313
Arod OBP .409 SLG.568 BA.302
Runs Produced per playoff game. (Runs scored plus RBI's divided by games played.)
Arod 1.31.
Jeter 1.11
Point of reference Superstar Pujols 1.33.
I agree with many that Jeter has performed better in some high pressure situations. But, Arod has been much better than his media portrayal and actually more productive than Jeter.
If I would have compared Jeter to most Hall of Famers his numbers would stand out and show his greatness, but against steroid boy Arod he pales in comparison.
How can I ever forgive Jeter for not allowing us to watch maybe the greatest shortstop play out of position for part of his career. A question, did Jeter's arrogance and ego keep the Yanks from winning two more rings because of a lack of team chemistry and a less than average middle infield defense. Who Knows? (I hate the Yankees anyway.)
It all makes me think "What if" with Josh Hamilton.

Wade and Jerry say Felix Jones is going to get the ball.
So do you think Jerry is meddling with saying Felix should get the ball more often.
Wade is on the bandwagon and saying Felix will touch the ball more often.
I guess the Garrett - Barber love fest may come to an end.
I will believe it when I see it.
Reminds me of Miles changing Crowton's plays. I was told this week that Miles is frequently changing the plays that Crowton is calling.
Can you image Wade or Les calling plays, no one would know what the hell they said.
I never understand what they are saying.

Reds/Phillies All Praise "Lord Halladay" No Hitter.
Halladay was ridiculous. How can a ball move that much.
It was ridiculous. How did he lose the perfect game?
The Reds are a power hitting team with average and it was no contest.
Amazing.
2 no hitters this year.
Similar to Lee Haladay pitches104 /79 strikes. Lee 104/76
Volquez was rocked, so S, you can smile about the trade.

Pat Forde on LSU.
The Video say LSU is one of the worst 5-0 teams he has ever seen. Ha.
Remarkably Lucky LSU Tigers is what he says.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=5650439
This Priceless: This is the start of the Article.
It's a strange and unsettling time when Texas and Penn State are both unranked, while Nevada is. But nothing is anywhere near as strange and unsettling as what transpired in Baton Rouge on Saturday, which is why we begin The Dash by calling for an exorcism.
Got a devil's haircut under The Hat
In Satan's lair, there is a lockbox with the words "LES MILES (2)" written on it. Inside is the LSU coach's soul.
There is no other possible explanation. The Hat clearly has made a deal with Lucifer that allows him to win nearly 80 percent of his games as coach of the Tigers, capture a national title and make more money than all but a tiny fraction of working Americans. And doing it with a unique flair for coaching lunacy in pressure situations.

Rangers - Rays. Game 1.
Since I was home with a fever today, I was able to catch some playoff action.
The Lee and Molina trades are good through day one.
Molina cracks me up with his beer belly build and slow movements. 3 for 4 with a homer and and 2 rbi's. He also catches Lee perfectly.
7 innings 1 run for Lee 104 pitches/74 strikes. The only run is
was an opposite field homer on a hanging curve from a singles hitter. Zobrist 2 hits of 5 against Lee.
Feliz gets two on in the ninth and blows them away when he gets nervous. It was good to see him in high 90's with control.

Pavin and Cup.
Before I get off of the Ryder Cup.
How in the heck did Mahan end up as the anchor?
One thought, he is a grinder like Pavin, so maybe Pavin confused his own success with the possibilites.
Woods and Phil at 8 and 10 .. Why, head to head they are the best.
The players didnt even like the clothes.
I just dont get it at all.
Should we talk about putting straight vs power hitters being together.
Guess what? A power hitter can get out of the rough better and is used to it in 3rd round fiasco.
The only good group that lost was Phil and Fowler. But they played the hot Poulter and Kaymer. Crazy.
Here is the order from Pavin.
I do realize I have only been captain at a small club 3 times in this type of competition, but there is some strategy you have to expect.
If have to prepare for the incredible pressue at the end.
Steve Stricker vs. Lee Westwood;
Stewart Cink vs. Rory McIlroy;
Jim Furyk vs. Luke Donald;
Dustin Johnson vs. Martin Kaymer;
Matt Kuchar vs. Ian Poulter;
Jeff Overton vs. Ross Fisher;
Bubba Watson vs. Miguel Angel Jimenez;
Tiger Woods vs. Francesco Molinari;
Rickie Fowler vs. Edoardo Molinari;
Phil Mickelson vs. Peter Hanson;
Zach Johnson vs. Padraig Harrington;
Hunter Mahan vs. Graeme McDowell
Lets assume some of the US players are not major final's proven winners.
That leaves these people to place at the end. Some need to be at the front but Pavin did not load the pressure slots.
Big Time Pressure Players.
Woods, Johnson, Phil
Next Level
Furyk lost, Stricker , Cink 3 putted to tie..ugh.
Wild Cards
Fowler Superstar in match play, Overton, Johnson who knows what will happen if he learns.
Two of these have to be in final two groups.
Huge Mistake.
Why would Woods and Phil not be leading off or ending it.
As for overall scoring. Forget it, It is who you play.
Woods was 3-1 and blown out when the only time he played one of the top players.
Westwood, Kaymer,Poulter and Donald
Overall hated the group pairings in alternate shop...Hated it.
Singles. Well the pressure made a player that has never won big fold and cry.

Ryder Cup
Corey Pavin would never have been my choice and I believe I commented on it months ago.
He lacks the charisma to take over a room and turn emotions.
Golf is the emotional game I have ever participated in and this is a problem. a cheerleader is not what I mean, just the ability to see through people to get them to change. I never felt the team building as a big advantage for the US. I blame Pavin's lack of charisma for that . The captain has to be COOL or Special, he has neither. A plodder with little explosive behaviour is not what we need in Europe.
As far as his lineups. I found it average at best. He used the easy pairings for his problem fit, but seemed to forget that this course was not suited for a wild drivers. Pairing similar people was mandatory and he gets only a C, because Colin killed him on the teams.
Hunter Mahan going out 2nd to last, that was a stretched. Fowler make four birdies in a row is what I would have expected. This is why I wanted Anthony Kim on the team... He is fearless and not the robotic golfer.
Mahan - Choked the last two holes. Pure and Simple the pressure killed him.
I mentioned a couple of months ago, how when I was under pressure I lost distance, well Hunter Mahan knows the feeling.
Here is a point on why I like Phil even when he is hurt and playing terrible.
--
Afterward, in a team news conference, Mahan tried to express his feelings but was repeatedly overcome by emotion. As Mahan fought back tears (and failed), Mickelson, in a classy move, took the microphone from him and partly blamed himself for the USA's loss. After all, Mickelson said, he had lost three of his four matches.
Davis Love is the next captain. No personality, but he is mean. He will probably bring in Freddie for the Cool Factor. Hopefully he will pick a course with no rough.

LSU
What can I say, after watching that game my stomach has kept me on meds since Saturday.
The feeling I had when LSU won is something I never expected to feel on a win.
I was disappointed. I am in New Orleans and Miles is getting roasted. Every national media person I have heard has crucified him and mentioned his past.
Crowton is right there with him. Say Goodbye.
Of course, Miles blamed Crowton. Fair enough but come on.
Scott you said it best.
The fool gets to bask in a win on idiocy and Dooley is hammered for the loss.
Jonathan is already talking about this upcoming recruiting class falling apart.

The Court Jester
Hard to believe that only a short time ago we had maybe the best coach in America, and we swapped him for maybe the dumbest one in all the land. So dumb that he didn't learn anything from last year's Ole Miss firestorm. So dumb that he will spend the week praising his players and coaches for this win against an unranked opponent at home. So dumb that he is becoming TV and talk radio's favorite joke. Better to have lost this game by far than to keep suffering this embarrassing buffoon.
I think I'm a little worked up.........
