My Driver - I need to vent about stupidty.

Around Easter this year, I started complaining to my golfing pals that I was losing my power fade. I wondered if my swing speed with my driver had dropped drastically due to age and surgeries. I would catch one pure about half the time, the others were weak carries.

So to satisfy my curiousity I checked my 47 years old Swingspeed. The drop was not as significant as I expected. I can't blow 120mph out anymore but I can get close enough to be happy.

Well, this weekend I was on the first tee with a compadre and he commented on my old cheap club. Anyone that knows me, can imagine that I don't really concern myself with cleaning my clubs. (It is so bad that one of my friends in Fort Worth tries to hustle people with the vision of my dirty clubs. He always wants me to carry my old bag, shirt untucked and play in running shoes. (We are going to get beat up over this one day.))

So out of curiousty,I turned the club upside down, wiped the dirt off and I found two cracks on the face. They intersected to make a cross about a half inch from the sweet spot toward the toe.

I shared my new found information with our good buddy and golf pro Reg.
His Comment: "And you won the Club Championship with that!"

I really have no idea how long I have been playing with this broken faced driver, but it does confirm my father's comments about his only begotten son.
"You are and idiot" are common words when he watches my "go for it" style of play.
