Allen, TX - Hockeytown?

Tomorrow night I'm going to our new event center to watch a Central Hockey League conference finals game between the Allen Americans & Odessa. The Americans have been highly visible in the community since starting operations this winter. They are capitalizing on the fact that the high school team has won 2 state championships in '07 and '09, and lost in the finals this year. They are currently outside Chicago playing in the national high school tournament (along with Southlake), and last year they won a prestigous Rocky Mountain tournament for high schools in the western U.S. The Americans are Allen's first pro franchise, and are making a good go of it. I may end up a hockey fan, of all things.

Those poor Northern Fanatics for Hockey.

Do they consider what is going to happen to the make up of Hockey teams in the next 40 years if Texas and then a small portion of the athletes in the South take up the game?

Allen as an example, if a team from a outlying city where Hockey is not even a top 5 sport can win or compete in a national tourney, it is a sign for he rest of the world to be concerned with the athletic difference that is eventually going to happen.

Suddenly the athletc Eastern Bloc teams are going to be slow.

Women's tennis has already experienced the impact with the Williams sisters.
Golf will experience it next. People think Woods is different, I can't wait until the true physical specimens play from the teens up. Dustin Johnson at 6'4 is already the most powerful player on tour and he was primarily a BBall player that was not known as a freak athlete.

When this happens, Hockey will really need to address the small ice and violence. If not someone will get killed with kids watching.
