LA High School Champions

Interesting weekend for the State Finals.

1 Haynesville-15th title 19-12 over two time defending champ South Plaquemines
2.Evangel-12th title 18-13 over John Curtis.
3.Notre Dame out of Crowley - 14-7
4.Neville- At least 5th title 31-15 over Franklinton.
5.West Monroe-7th title. 30-0 over Rummel.

A bit different outcome this year with North La winning 4 of 5. N LA has dominated the big classification since the 80's but it is rare that 4 teams win. After watching the games and reviewing the box scores, the best teams really did win.

My biggest surprise was the athletic advantage Evangel had over John Curtis.
The score was closer than the play on the field. ECA had too many miscues with the kicking game and drops. JC could not move the ball, but they are so well coached they are always a threat. If they play 5 times ECA blows them out at least once.

Same thing with Haynesville, I lost track of how many times they were inside the 20 and did not score. Why can no team in North La kick a xtra point or field goal.
The Evangel and Haynesville games were close with late scores and both of the losing teams had a chance to win with last ditch efforts.

Neville was the biggest game time suprise in how easily they stopped Franklinton. I knew that Neville could score in bunches, but they were just stronger up front than Franklinton on the D Line.

West Monroe and Rummel were even until the 2nd quarter and West Monroe took over.
My guess is that between the 2nd quarter and the final 5 minutes in the game West Monroe out gained Rummel 230 to 45 in yardage. Rummel had 1 turnover and 1 more penalty. West Monroe had too much quickness at the skill positions and too much talent on Defense. They did not get close to scoring until Shows put the young kids in.

The teams that dominated field position and time of control won.

I along with everyone else in the state would like to see a round robin
of Evangel, Neville and West Monroe.
