Meyer's retirement is sad to me, at age 46 he was building quite a legacy. His record in 10years as a head coach 103-23 with two National Titles.
The entire episode with him during the last year is just bizarre and we can only hope his issues are not life threatening. I have read more than once that he was the most arrogant coach people had every been around, but he could recruit with the best of them.
OK, THE MORE IMPORTANTT QUESTION- Who gets the keys to the job of a lifetime?
Suddenly the Miami and Michigan jobs do not look so appealing!
#Mullen?-Too big of a job with that offense. #Peterson?-Not for me.
#Petrino? Well that is just scary # Harbaugh? Closest to NFL job he can find.
#Patterson? Can he recruit with Saban and Miles. #Stoops- Could the instability of the Big 12 come into play.
If I was the Miami and Michigan AD, I would get busy making an offer.
The SEC is weaker tonight because of this retirement.

I actually think Mullen would be a viable canidate if the AD wants a seemless transistion. He has prvoen he can coach in the SEC and he understands the job. Petrino or Harbaugh would be the big spalshes. Bobby P would go Harbaugh I am unsure about. Granted UF is a great job but Michigan is not bad and also the NFL will be calling. It depends on if he wants to be a pro or college coach. Also, if he restored Michiga he would be a legend. You can not be in UF as easily.
I hope there isn't a serious health issue; it seems to me to be a case of mid-life crisis. I think Meyer is a complex individual and at 46 is thinking about missing out on his marriage and being a father to his kids. Here's hoping he finds some peace and we see him again.
I keep hearing that Harbaugh would prefer the NFL and he is so hot right now; it has to be the time to jump. I wonder about Peterson; Foley had success hiring a mid-major guy with a history of winning in Meyer, so I'd have to think Peterson would be a strong candidate.
