Cowboys '71

Jody bought me the 5-dvd set of the Cowboys' super bowl wins for Christmas. To make myself feel better, I watched the first one tonight. The three main Cowboys who spoke for the show were Staubach, Lilly, & Duane Thomas. Lilly said after 7 games the def elected LR Jordan to go to Landry and tell him the whole team thought he needed to pick a starting QB because the team was divided. Of course they didn't lose after that. The clips of Lilly were amazing; he was so athletic, he just dominated, and he wasn't young then. He was also a great interview. The clips of Thomas were a revelation. Lilly said he played against Jim Brown and playing against Thomas every day and watching him that year, he fully expected him to become a hall of famer. One of the great wastes of talent of all time. Thomas was his usual odd self during the interview. He was surprisingly proud of winning the super bowl though you wouldn't have known it by how he acted then. My final thoughts on it are that how sad that that season was really the end for many of the first generation of Cowboy stars and they ended with only 1 championship. Should have been 2-3. The youth movement started after that win.

Thomas was a fluid stop and go runner.
He was similar to Alexandria when he was at Alabama and Seattle.

I loved that year.
