Gary Myers has some interesting insight in the relationship between Payton and Parcells.
A quote.
Coaches tend to get so uptight in Super Bowls because any play could be the one that decides the game. But there's no question Payton went for it against Manning. He knew he had to take some chances, find ways to create extra possesions, because Manning is virtually unstoppable. Payton was at his best in the biggest game of his life and elevated himself into an elite coach

Nice article. This is one of the few to mention Payton's performance and how much it changed the game. He coached to win, I do not know if I could have done it. It still has not sunk in.
