Why are PGA golfers laying up on Par 5's.

This year, I have seen three power hitters lay up on par 5's with a chance to win.
None of the players made birdie and all lost by 1 stroke.
Today 5'8 or 9" 21 year old power hitting pretty boy Ricky Fowler laid up from 231 with only a 210 carry. Earlier this year I watched Bubba Watson and Michael Sims do it, now Ricky Fowler.

His Quote. :"I felt that instead of bringing trouble into play ... I took the safe route," Fowler said.

Not that this would surprise those who know me, but this weekend, my 47 year old body, went for it with a 240 carry over water in 50 degree weather. I failed in my attempt by plugging it in the bank, but after my drop, I did get up and down from 105 after to avoid losing my money. (I promise I would have lost more of my net worth than these guys with a bogey.)

Money is big on tour, but they have to play to win. These guys are gifted and hit irons as far as I hit a 3wood. I guarantee Phil and Woods would have been hitting at the flag.

Tin Cup is still my golfing hero.
